name your squad.....and then tell me how many of your young squad are actually getting regular game time at their clubs....The majority of these older players are still playing at the highest level.....thing is we HAVE to make the world cup.....Do you really think a young team would of put in a performance like the socceroos did against Japan in the last game? I say get to the world cup and then rebuild for the asian cup
Out of the latest squad. Neill, Carney, Oga, Bresh, Brosque, Archie, Kruse, North are all players in the squad and got game time that aren't playing at the highest level and aren't getting regular game time.
I completely agree out with the old IMO. Sure we can't afford to lose players like Cahill, Bresh and Kewell still has a
part to play as well IMO, but players like Rhys Williams, Chris Herd, Tommy Oar, Matthew Leckie, Shane Lowry, Michael Zullo, Ruka and Troisi are all players that have been repeatedly over looked by Holger in favour of the previously mentioned. Why? Sure not all these kids are getting huge gametime either but they are all playing in Europe and decent clubs at a level far higher then ALL of the players I mentioned.
At some point all the 'golden' generation players are going to retire (many already have) and as we clearly saw with the Australian Cricket side after Warne and McGrath retired if you haven't blooded your youth and got them used to the higher level you are definately going to experience a rapid decline in results. I mean Warne and McGrath retired from tests in 2007 and 5 years later we're still struggling to replace them. If side want consistant success you either have to spend big or wisely develop youth. Since the FFA has bugger all cash and not a great idea on how to spend it in a lot of cases. I think we need to be far far smarter with our youth development at the highest level.
