Was at a Northern club last week and there were over 30 players there, not sure of how they are supposed to select out of that many kids. At least they had 3, i think, looking and taking notes.
My lad tried his best but doesn't fancy his chances.
Do you think i should call the coach afterwards if he is unsuccessful ?

I just cant believe how crazy this junior trials thing has become. Parents taking their kids all over town trying to find clubs which will give their kids "better opportunities". What does this mean. Surely being given an opportunity to play at any club is opportunity enough especially at a very young age. This was overheard from some parents at a recent U11 trial session at a north eastern club. Mind you these boys were existing club players and more than likely would be selected again for next season. I just cant understand where their mentality is. Maybe the FFSA should look at imposing recruitment zones for clubs similiar to the SANFL otherwise we could have a child from Modbury going to a club at clarence gardens for instance for better opportunities. It gone mad.

At my club ive had over 30 kids try out for under 14s, we are having 5 trials..we had two on sat and sunday, and the next are on wed, sat and sunday.
realising the dilemma we had, we have decided to cut some players and reduce the number to about 24...and from there we will finalise our 16 after the last day.
the reason for informing players early in the trials they werent gonna make it, is that they could try and find another club to trial at. Unfortunately having two under 14 teams is not an option due to the lack of grounds available for training.

So if a team / club have enough players to make a 'B' squad why don't they do it, keeps players at the club, more revenue. Can a club have 2 teams in one division ?
Hopefully we will find out if my son made it this week, dreaded phone call or letter i suppose. You are right sc1, it would be both happy and sad times for all

Can't have two teams in same division. Generally, most Clubs like to have a few "B" teams but only as many as their facilities allow. Football Freak....if your son doesn't make it just try somewhere else. And there is nothing wrong with good quality E and D clubs either. Just so long as your lad keeps playing and enjoys it, that's the main thing.

Is that at Modbury Bill ?(am i allowed to ask that :? ) they too had over 30 boys there to start with then the last trial was about the same, down to @ 24-25. If it is not that team then obviously both your club and theirs are showing consistency.BillShankly wrote:At my club ive had over 30 kids try out for under 14s, we are having 5 trials..we had two on sat and sunday, and the next are on wed, sat and sunday.

I suppose the advatage to para hills is they do have the B side and then maybe making the A the year after at least if you decide to hang around you will been seen by the appropriate people and maybe progress to A's.
I don't beleive Modbury have any B sides maybe they should look at it.
THE PROBLEM IS SOCCER SEEMS TO BE TAKING OFF BIG TIME LOTS MORE KIDS TO CHOOSE FROM

ALL I CAN SAY IS GOOD LUCK TO ALL YOU BUDDING SOCCER STRS
I certainly hope that's not the case! Coaches should know exactly why they have chosen one player over another. If they don't then their assessment methods are flawed.Big Wayne wrote:I think you should but only if you are prepared to hear the truth. But to be honest some coaches dont know why they like certain players over others.
I agree that the parent/player should ring the coach and ask them why they didn't make the squad. Constructive feedback is very important

Totally agree. Some players trial really well then back off once selected. Other players could have been more nervous and therefore didn't perform as best as they know they can. And given the short ttrial time coaches have a hell of a job selecting a squad from 30+ players. It is difficult or near impossible) to assess each player on ALL of their football skills and attributes.sc1 wrote:Coaches don't always get it right either. Asking coaches why their child didn't get in won't always give you the answer you are looking for. I am the first to admit that I have picked players that I wish I hadn't but I guess we don't get a lot of time to look at kids...especially ones from other Clubs who are a bit nervous. Unfortunately trials are both happy AND sad ocassions and we will never get it right all of the time. Good luck to all wherever you play...it's the game that is the winner wherever you play.

I'm shocked to hear about some parents problems with their kids playing in B teams
Not just on here but at trials also!
Kids develope at different ages, the most important thing is that they play and enjoy the game, if they're good enough they will get noticed, believe me!
Stay at your club and be loyal!

I think if a club already has an 'A' team and no 'B' team; then if they were to field a second team, they have to start of in 'C' League.
And if you think parents are unhappy about their children playing in 'B's, then to suggest their child could get a spot in a new 'C' team may be playing with fire!!

I suppose the problem with the B and C team thing is that people might not agree with paying the federation or clubs the same fees as a A side, to play in a C division. i don't know, i think if my son wasn't good enough to play A or at least in a B side i would try and convince him to go back to a elizabeth and districs there are still some good junior sides there and at a third of the cost at least he would still be playing the game he loves
