Vince Grella - Chamion or Overrated??
Based on his performances to date at the Asian Cup, should Vince Grella be dropped for the Japan game?

he's been a waste of space, but don't think anyone else is capable of getting the job done.

overrated.
looked good with Hiddink cos the SYSTEM worked well around him.
His touch on the ball isnt good enough. Works hard and commits to alot of tackles but as someone pointed out earlier, isnt the most intelligent of players.
But unforunately there are no Aussie players in a defensive mid mould, so he'll be there for years to come.

Culina is not much of the classical type, anyhows Australia play Grella as a Regista as well. This makes it hard doing two jobs at once. Usually you would have a classical and the creative player in the middle, but that job goes to Grella, and Culina to play the supporting role.admin wrote:Culina can play Grella's role and then Cahill could slot into the staring line up at the expense of Grella.
Need championship manager to play a few different scenarios with the different lineups:)
If we play Culina on his own like that, Australia would get arse raped.

what the hell is wrong with you people.... grella is an absolute champion.... it is a known fact that he struggles in the heat... I know for a fact in the youth world cup in Nigeria he really struggled with the heat and was quite ill..... he still battles on.... he is not stupid or overated just more sensitive to the affects of the extreme and foreign conditions.... it doesnt take much for everyone to start bagging our own does it. you all make me sick

Well Reggina if it was a known fact he cant play in 35 deg heat and 70+ percent humidity, he shouldnt be playing. Plain and simple.Reggina10Cozza wrote:what the hell is wrong with you people.... grella is an absolute champion.... it is a known fact that he struggles in the heat... Why would you knowingly play a player in that instance?
Yes during the world cup he was great. But this isnt the World Cup, its Asia, a whole different ball game, and boy didnt we find that out the hard way.
AUSTRALIA SUCCESS IN THE WORLD CUP CONSISTED OF ONE WIN IN A MATCH WHERE WE WERE BEHIND FOR 85 MINUTES.On Holiday wrote:Would have to agree that Grella is not the most graceful player on the park, however every quality team needs a player like him to put in the hard yards. Australia is overated not Grella.
The world cup was a success, depending on your definition.getborn wrote:AUSTRALIA SUCCESS IN THE WORLD CUP CONSISTED OF ONE WIN IN A MATCH WHERE WE WERE BEHIND FOR 85 MINUTES.On Holiday wrote:Would have to agree that Grella is not the most graceful player on the park, however every quality team needs a player like him to put in the hard yards. SHiddinks goal was to get Australia past a very tough group - he did. Success.
Arnolds goal was to win the Asian Cup - anything less would be a failure - knocked out after group stage, failed.
I agree, that Aus has now eaten a decent serving of humble pie and deservedley too. However these are the same players that were minutes away from dealing Italy the most humiliating defeat in their history. True it never happened but gee if it went to extra time id have put my house on Aus winning.
So that being said each player themselves would have been blowing wind up their own arses, thinking if we can almost beat the WOrld champs, we'll win this thing in a canter. The word is UNDERESTIMATED not OVERRATED.
Big difference.
You would have lost your house.Redstar75 wrote:The world cup was a success, depending on your definition.getborn wrote:AUSTRALIA SUCCESS IN THE WORLD CUP CONSISTED OF ONE WIN IN A MATCH WHERE WE WERE BEHIND FOR 85 MINUTES.On Holiday wrote:Would have to agree that Grella is not the most graceful player on the park, however every quality team needs a player like him to put in the hard yards. australia were never going to score against italy, not even against ten men.
i still believe australia is OVERATED.
nor are they as good they think they are.
as for the managment.
a coach is as important as his players.
we went form hiddink & neeskens to arnold and kosmina. you do the maths.
Well then Lowry and co. need to go back to the drawing board. I have a suspicion that big changes are in order and this "we need an Australian coach" mentality will soon be a thing of the past.getborn wrote:You would have lost your house.Redstar75 wrote:The world cup was a success, depending on your definition.getborn wrote:AUSTRALIA SUCCESS IN THE WORLD CUP CONSISTED OF ONE WIN IN A MATCH WHERE WE WERE BEHIND FOR 85 MINUTES.On Holiday wrote:Would have to agree that Grella is not the most graceful player on the park, however every quality team needs a player like him to put in the hard yards.
