Match of the Day
INGLE Farm has taken a giant stride towards the Sunday Premier Division Championship after a thrilling 2-2 draw with Elizabeth Downs at Walkleys Oval.
The Maroons travelled to Farm looking to narrow the four-point lead held by Farm and after a strong opening it looked like they had taken a 14th minute lead only for Sean Brennan’s header to be ruled out due to a push.
Farm seemed content to soak up the pressure and then took a lead on the half hour when a ball into the box was charged down and defender Dean Kendrick reacted first to bundle the ball home.
Tommy Blackett shot just wide for the Downs on 39 minutes and just before the half time whistle Farm went 2-0 up when a brilliant little ball over the top from Jarroy Noel found Kaelan Tyson who slotted his chance.
After the break the visitors started strongly but on 52 minutes Ben Aldridge had to be at his best to prevent a Tyson shot that surely would have wrapped up the win.
On 57 minutes it was game on when a dangerous Brayden Gundlach ball into the box was met by a diving Scott Lindsay who poked it home.
While the Downs pushed hard they were vulnerable on the break as Liam Mulvaney shot just wide on 72 minutes and when a harmless Barletta cross went between keeper Aldridge’s legs it needed a goal line clearance to keep it out on 80 minutes.
A minute later the Maroons were awarded a freekick 20 yards out and Captain Lindsay stepped up with a superb freekick that went in off the crossbar to set up an enthralling finish.
The Downs were throwing everything at the Farm defence and on 84 minutes a corner was met by a Billy Allotey header which the keeper could only parry and after a goal mouth scramble and goal line clearance Farm survived.
On 90 minutes Farm’s Stefan Barletta could have won the league when he went through one on one with the keeper but he shot wide.
The last kick of the game saw Gundlach shoot just wide from 12 yards as the home side held out for what should prove the most vital of points.
Ingle Farm coach Paul Simpson was the happier of the coaches “It’s a good point for us considering the pressure we were under in the 2nd half. We take the point and move onto next week.”
Downs coach Steve Hughes isn’t conceding anything “We were disappointed to be two goals down at halftime but to the boys credit they gave everything and we take a point and ensure Farm still have some work to do.”
FIVE goals from Chad Bugeja helped Brahma Lodge to a thumping 12-2 win over the bottom placed Salisbury Florina at Underdown Park
The 3rd placed Brahma were looking to keep their league title hopes alive and opened the scoring through a quality finish from Michael Mullen.
The lead was doubled soon after when a Robbie McDonald cross picked out Chad Bugeja at the back post and he headed home.
The visitors went to the break leading 3-0 after Bugeja picked up the ball on the left before driving into the box and firing home.
After the break it was one-way traffic with Bugeja finishing with five and McDonald scoring a hat trick.
A Paul Whitney injury time header salvaged a point for Parafield Gardens who drew 3-3 with Elizabeth Vale at Moflin Road.
Gardens opened the scoring on 25 minutes when Ozan Cakar converted from the penalty spot.
The teams went to the break locked at 1-1 when Michael Francis was on hand to slam the ball home after a goal mouth scramble.
The Vale took the lead on 50 minutes when a Thierry Hatungimana ball played in Bryn Fairman who made no mistake.
The lead was short lived as Griffin Dean scored his 1st goal for the club with a header on 52 minutes making it 2-2.
Three minutes later the Vale were back in front when Fairman turned provider playing in Francis who slotted his 2nd goal.
Just as it appeared the home side had sealed the points Whitney bobbed up to head home the equaliser to the cheers of the travelling Gardens support.
Vale coach Tim Crawford “I can’t fault the lads effort but it certainly feels like points dropped.”
TEN men Para Hills West fought back to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with Tea Tree Gully at Manor Farm Ground.
The relegation threatened Gully opened the game strongly and deserved their lead on 20 minutes when Dylan Rocca fired home from 20 yards.
Westies job was made harder on the half time whistle when they were reduced to 10 men.
After struggling in the 1st half, the ten men Westies seemed rejuvenated in the 2nd half and were good value for their equaliser on 70 minutes when a Michael
Simpson corner was headed back out to him before he whipped in a cross that Luke Air headed home.
The point keeps Gully in 8th place, goal difference ahead of the 9th placed Para Hills East, both coaches felt a point was a fair result.
Westies Michael Iacovino “Credit to Gully they out played us 1st half but our boys turned up 2nd half and deserved a point.”
Gullies Mat Flounders “We couldn’t keep the ball 2nd half, it was a fair result.”
PARA Hills East’s survival hopes are very much alive after a stirring 5-4 win over Salisbury Inter at Para Hills Oval.
Easties started the scoring through Russell Clayton but by the 20th minute Inter were 2-1 up with goals from Ross Tripodi and Riley Lewko.
The teams went to the break locked at 2-2 after a 44th minute header at the back post from Jarryd McGloughlin.
The visiting Inter were in front on the hour when substitute Colin Griffiths converted a Chris Fleming cross before a Nathan Blackmore back heel made it 3-3 soon after.
The home fans were delighted on 75 minutes when Clayton was on hand to tap in his 2nd goal only for Inter to draw level through a Nathan Pettit goal on 80 minutes.
With two minutes left on the clock Easties were awarded a penalty that Clayton converted for his personal hat trick but more importantly a crucial three points.
East coach Alan O’Donnell “It’s a huge win. It doesn’t get any easier next week but we just have to keep going.”
Inter coach Steve Cook “It’s a common thread. I feel like we are playing good football but we keep giving away sloppy goals.”

Rumours out of today’s round.. Florina will merge with a Modbury team and Inter in serious debt as well, anyone happy to comment??
In my time at Anfield we always said we had the best two teams on Merseyside - Liverpool and Liverpool reserves.

Florina move to Jets park may not be on the cards now.
It has to be hard when you get new clubrooms and your monthly rent goes from $350 to $1500 a month.
Then the power charges on top of that.
Got this from talking to committe people from Florina yesterday at the game.
I believe they have a meeting with the council this week, hopefully they can sort something out as i would hate to see another good club Fold.
Good Luck Florina.
