Gareth Bale - GBP $86m transfer bid
Real Madrid have supposedly lobbed a world record GBP86.3m bid for Garth Bale.
Spurs have rejected the offer!!!!!
Thats around $A143m for 1 player. Unbelievable.

One UK paper is saying Spurs have told Real they can have Bale for GBP100m ($A166m).

I'd be more than happy to let him go for that much and replace him with 3 or 4 top players. Whilst we'd undoubtedly miss his individual brilliance, we'd get a much stronger squad.

Re: Gareth Bale - GBP $86m transfer bid
Not a Spurs fan but I would not want to see him go if I was as he is obviously a class act. If a transfer does take place do not assume that the FULL amount will be spent on 3 or 4 replacements and even if it was the new guys have to gel and take time to settle. On a selfish point I would like him to stay as he is one reason I would stay up late to watch a Tottenham game live.
On the other hand Spurs can't afford to let his contract run out as he would walk for nothing and might yet end up at Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd. etc. I think the Spaniards will most likely get their man if they really want him enough (which appears to be the case). There is also an outside chance that Bale would wish to remain long term at the club but I can't see the club missing out on a potentially massive sum of money.

may have to change my username if he goes
but as a spurs fan it is a tough one... His individual brilliance carried us through large parts of last season and I can't see his replacements (if any) doing as well as him. If we sign Soldado plus 1 or 2 other quality players hopefully he will hang around for one more season... But then again he may not do as well and right now may be the time to cash in, especially with that kind of transfer fee. Although my opinion doesn't matter, Levy's is the one that counts. I can't see Levy letting him go easily.

Wow that money is crazy
If i were spurs id sell for that much. I was sad to see Ronaldo go, but for the money madrid offered and the fact he wanted to go while giving us the extra year, id say good business
Spurs can buy quality with that money
But is he worth that much? Couldnt even take spurs to 4th spot and hasnt won anything

Re: Gareth Bale - GBP $86m transfer bid
An individual player can win you a game, but squads win the silverware. No point having the best striker in the World if your midfield can't get the ball to him, no point scoring 3 if you let in 4.
The fact is, players come and go, whether through transfers, retirement or injury doesn't really make much difference, but the club continues. Much as I love his goals, I'd rather have 3 or 4 really good players than Bale. What happens when he's injured?
We could buy Suarez

Re: Gareth Bale - GBP $86m transfer bid
That is a joke of an offer. And if, like reported, they have raised it to 100m GBP, then that is absolutely ridiculous. When is FFP due to kick in? How uneven will leagues be in a few years if RM, PSG, Monaco, City, etc keep spending like they have been?
Best player in the Premier League at the moment, but how can he be worth more than Ronaldo was? Worth 40m more than Cavani? Worth 10x the amount of Tevez?
If I was Spurs, I'd be taking the money and investing it straight into Soldado (who is also overpriced BTW) and another 2-3 world class players.

Re: Gareth Bale - GBP $86m transfer bid
WOW, how far are teams willing to pay for 1 player?
All it takes is one crumching tackle and that can ruin his career.
to me it seems that clubs are playing with paper money!
but Spurs should take the money and buy 3-4 quality players.
1 player does not make a team

worth a read. it's interesting how much media rumours can blow out of control so easily.

I'd bite their fucking hands off.
Bale is very good, but like someone else said, one player can win you a game, a squad wins you silverware.

Given Real Madrid already carrying massive debt, will this simply be matter of increasing their overdraft at the bank. I assume it will be one of the Spanish Banks that are bordering on collapse, that will be lending them the money. Good economics for a country staring into the financial abyss.

Inflation is rampant down at WHL. Bale's price is now £105m apparently.

Spurs should take the money and buy a new team with the profits.
