AFL Season 2013 thread

Post by Red-4-Life »

Thought this may be necessary so all talk for the season ahead can be in one thread (mainly on games, different topics for all other AFL related issues is expected).

So it all begins tonight.

Round 1:

Adelaide vs Essendon
Fremantle vs West Coast
Carlton vs Richmond
Bulldogs vs Brisbane
GWS vs Sydney
Gold Coast vs St Kilda
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide
North Melb vs Collingwood
Hawthorn vs Geelong

Who's everyone's tips? Only the 2 games this weekend and the rest to be played over Easter.

I'm going with - Essendon, WCE, Carlton, Brisbane, Sydney, St Kilda, Port, Collingwood & Hawthorn

So hard to predict this time of year.

Adelaide vs Essendon - Heart says Crows, head is saying Essendon so will stick with the head
Fremantle vs West Coast - West Coast will finish above them in the ladder but have a few too many injuries/lack of preseason to win I think.
Carlton vs Richmond - Closest opening round fixture they will have for a while but Blues with too much class in the end
Bulldogs vs Brisbane - Can see Brisbane blowing their preseason form but the Bulldogs are in for a tough year.
GWS vs Sydney - Comfortably. GWS still 2 years away from been really competitive
Gold Coast vs St Kilda - My upset for the round. Not sure on the Saints and GC will have made some big improvements
Melbourne vs Port Adelaide - Mainly because its at the G. Not sold on Port yet. Need to see them in a few competitive games
North Melb vs Collingwood - North will put up a good fight by Pies look strong
Hawthorn vs Geelong - Great preseason form and with some new guys keen to impress, should keep the hoodoo up.

Very open year this year.

Yarran's selfishness cost Carlton the win. Went for the glory rather than set up an easy shot on goal

9 times out of 10 he would've kicked it - but it wasn't to be.

STill pleasing to see we came back, but counts for nothing in the end.

Early days anyway.

Can't believe they lost by only 5 points.
Was watching earlier they were almost 40 down.

With the pace of the gAme these days, what is a "safe" lead - is it 50 points when the fat lady comes out singing?

The great Kevin Sheedy says the game isn't safe until it's over a 10 goal margin (obviously depending on how much time is remaining) if there's only minutes left you'd think a 4 goal lead would be enough.

Another upset today with the Dogs smashing the Lions

Anything above a goal a minute is when the fat slut starts singing.

Is the Suns winning that much of an upset? I did back them in my footy tips and I know a few who also did. I think they are on the rise and will push a lot of teams especially with Ablett who is just a freak.

Hawks just destined to beat Geelong today.
Too well matched up to lose 10 in a row.

Same old story for Hawthorn. Be in a winning position and let Geelong run over them to steal it

Fucking Hawks. I did a bet on who would be winning at the end of each quarter. It was HAW/HAW/GEE/HAW. They couldn't win me the cash in the end though :(

Has the MRP got themselves into a pickle by letting Lindsay Thomas off the hook? I find it soft myself but as the rules state it should be a report. Opened up a can of worms now as any similar incident that does get reported, the player will be able to refer to this incident and the tribunal will look like fools...again.

$36 and I chucked $5. It would have been a handy profit but it wasn't meant to be!

Ignoring the crappy rules in place, I agree with you. But with the rules surrounding protection of the head, the MRP have sort of gotten themselves into a hole here. Jack Ziebell last season for example should not have copped that 4 game ban for a bump....

Difference is that Thomas didn't have feet off the ground.
