THE FLIP SIDE
King Nugget raised a valid point in a previous topic about the monies raised for charity by Elizabeth Vale and the Downs over the last couple of years. While the SAASL has taken a battering this year dfrom the local media it appears that there is a lot of good work done by clubs for the benefit of the general community that has got, or gets little or no recognition or press coverage. Lets list all these projects and see if these well informed journalists in the Adelaide media see fit to report on these issue rather than only the ugly incidents that have occured. I will start with the monies raised during their annual pre season trial game between Para Hills East and Modbury Jets for the Heart Foundation (actual amounts not known but is in the 1000's).
Re: THE FLIP SIDE
Look at it like a job.
You can perform exceptionally time after time and be rewarded, raise alot of money and be in the good books.
But if you walk up to your manager and swing a pole at him and king hit him;
You're gone

Lets just suppose the boss was hit by a stick, but not by me should I be sacked because somebody else resorted to violence. Should the Vale who raised thousands of dollars for chartity be tarred with the same brush as BESA or Maiwand.
I would hope not.

No you wouldn't be sacked however you can be assured that the security measures would be tightened to assure no more managers get smacked out.egg and chips wrote:Lets just suppose the boss was hit by a stick, but not by me should I be sacked because somebody else resorted to violence. Jealousy is a curse and maybe thats why the FFSA have given the media ammunition to criticize our competition
Maybe the media should know that FFSA had stopped a SAASL team in playing in the Tony Mac Cup (played between all the southern FFSA teams ) This is a fund raiser for Cancer research

Re: THE FLIP SIDE

Modbury Jets are also very proud organisers of the annual Phoenix Cup, with this year's event already being planned.egg and chips wrote:King Nugget raised a valid point in a previous topic about the monies raised for charity by Elizabeth Vale and the Downs over the last couple of years. Not only are funds raised for charity, but it gives disadvantaged people a chance to play our game that they would not normally get.

I watched them play a few weeks ago, half of the team didn't have matching shirts and the keeper was bare foot, so you must not fund them enoughKING NUGGET wrote:I know our Club fund & run a Refugee team Div.9

I ref'd their game last week, these young lads come from different suburbs around Adelaide and catch trains busses and some walk. They were supplied strips & socks by the club (and in some cases boots) they train at Gardens ground and are coached by Lefty.
Yes sometimes they forget to bring their boots socks and shin pads but they play the game with as much passion
as any other team, they are out there having fun with mates and thats what football is about.
If they didnt have the support of the SAASL and a club willing to give them assistance they would be
left to kick in a parkland with nothing !!

No boots, shin pads and still allowed to play
:?
That can't be right, I have seen guys ordered off the pitch for no shin pads and not allowed back until they have them on.

Re: THE FLIP SIDE
Thumbs up to Wanderers for presenting our club with a carton of beer on the weekend. Thanks lads, great gesture and much appreciated.

Re: THE FLIP SIDE
I asked the opposition if they wanted the player(s) removed and the reply was "its their shins" ..!!!Franco UnAmerican wrote:No boots, shin pads and still allowed to play:?

and apart from one shirt front from the opposition captain the game was played tough and in most cases fair. the young bhutanese boys did mention in the changerooms after the game that "those big men were very rough" but at no stage did they retaliate...!!!
I have ref'd games in the past with other teams that would have not have been as placid and accepting of the physical attention these lads received. this is how all teams should behave.

I would have thought the SAASL would frown on this....Not trying to be smart but are there 2 sets of rules playing under the SAASL banner?Rodent wrote:I asked the opposition if they wanted the player(s) removed and the reply was "its their shins" ..!!!Franco UnAmerican wrote:No boots, shin pads and still allowed to play:?

Re: THE FLIP SIDE
Im not an offical SAASL ref just a club ref and I left it to the opposition... so the SAASL rules didnt come into it.Franco UnAmerican wrote:I would have thought the SAASL would frown on this....Not trying to be smart but are there 2 sets of rules playing under the SAASL banner?Rodent wrote:I asked the opposition if they wanted the player(s) removed and the reply was "its their shins" ..!!!Franco UnAmerican wrote:No boots, shin pads and still allowed to play:?
