Poor standard juniors
Went to a couple of junior finals on the weekend, the level of ball skills and game awarenes very poor. One team to show some level of game awarenees skill and some sort of structure under 14 birkalla, i know alot of people dont like the coach but he is very passionate about what he does maybe a bit overzealoused but played the game that way himself . The standard of some coaches needs to lift more ex players need to give back to the game , More coaches who played the game like birks coach under 14 , campbelltowns 14 coach, and croyden 16, 17 coaches to help raise the standard of our juniors. This is not a winge but a how can we change, so if you have nothing but abuse dont bother replying.
Re: Poor standard juniors
There was some good football played by all the teams, but you gotta understand that Hindmarsh is a big ground and can make a lot of the younger aged games look ordinary! Also add to that the pressure of finals and how young kids react to that
As for the coaches, that's a hard spot to fill
With 200+ teams in the state I think coaching education is a more realistic ask

Re: Poor standard juniors
I think you are talking about Birks 15s coach as u14s werent in the cup final .although some of the 15s who are still eligable to play 14s have helped the 14s this year, they wouldnt be were they are on the ladder without those few skillfull players from the 15's

do you mean the 15s wouldnt be where they are without the help of the 14s or the 14s without the help of the 14s who play in the 15s ................dihard wrote:I think you are talking about Birks 15s coach as u14s werent in the cup final .although some of the 15s who are still eligable to play 14s have helped the 14s this year, they wouldnt be were they are on the ladder without those few skillfull players from the 15's

Disagree, standard of juniors in this state has never been higher.Best On Ground wrote:Went to a couple of junior finals on the weekend, the level of ball skills and game awarenes very poor. I am sure those coaches you have listed are very good coaches but just because you have played at a high level
it doesn't mean you are necessarily a good coach.
Surprised you left the AC U13 coach from your list

Yes I agree you do need to have played the game, but empathy, common sense, no ego, self education
and a love of the game are all very important.

Mmmmmmmmmm,
sort of agree, from in the stands i thought some teams passing looked very ordinary but, as previosuly posted, it is a BIG pitch.
Vocal coaches are not always going to suceed, if you have to shout or tell the palyers where they should be then . . .
TBH didn't hear too mauch from the coaches as i sat a fair way back but overall it would be good if the FFSA could organise a competition against other states cup winners or even league winners?
Then again this is a BIG country we live in so i doubt that would happen.

I wasn't really basing my opinion on the Cup Finals...only saw a couple of games...moreso on the games I see over a season.
As far as coaching, I wish I had the coaching as a junior most of these Kids get.
We use to do a lap, kick end to end, then play a game.

Australian coaches of 20 years ago definately learnt that from England then. I rekon there are a few still floating around though :?
I remember back in my "u18" days, a kid got in trouble and the coach told him to go do some laps.
The problem was, the coach forgot about him, so 28 laps later..........

Re: Poor standard juniors
I was Captain of our school team..our Coach (and schoolteacher) started training by getting us to do 5 laps of the school oval. He had to go back inside the classroom for something so I assembled the team out of sight, waited till I saw him re-appear then huffed and puffed our way to the finish line. He didn't realise that we had jogged only half a lapZeljko Jurin wrote:Big Mac wrote: As far as coaching, I wish I had the coaching as a junior most of these Kids get.
