FIFA admit there is a Plan B for 2010 World Cup Finals
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has confirmed for the first time that there is a 'plan B' for the host nation of the 2010 World Cup.
The tournament is due to take place in South Africa - the first World Cup to be staged in Africa - but concerns over continued security problems in the area have led to reports FIFA might look for new hosts.
However, while Blatter admits that there is an alternative in place, he remains confident the World Cup will go ahead as planned unless there is a 'natural catastrophe'.
'I would be a very negligent president if I hadn't put away in a drawer somewhere a plan B,' said Blatter.
'However, only a natural catastrophe would change things.
'If we had to activate the plan B, we would take our decision after the Confederations Cup.'
Next year's Confederation Cup is set to be held in South Africa and will act as a dry run for the World Cup a year later.

Italy,
England

In terms of organisation Australia is fine, but grounds are the issue.

England will host it on short notice.
That way fifa and uefa wont be sweating on the 2018 bids.

Re: FIFA admit there is a Plan B for 2010 World Cup Finals
only really 4 countries that could organise it on such short notice and they are the 4 already mentioned. I'd prefer England not to get it though as I'd rather have 2018 and do it "properly".
Things I am owed because they're too tight to pay up:
Colossus: One House
Costa: One Lunch
Oh and add in
Colossus: one photo and one letter from his "attorney".

A change of country would affect the qualifying criteria would it not as Sth Africa have automatic qualification. Could get a bit messy

you think they'd still give south africa automatic qualification.

We would have to do alot of work inside the stadiums. I think that would be the biggest concern. Everything else should be fine, just the upgrading of the seats and all that.ozzie owl wrote:At short notice, only possible countries:Bodø Glimt wrote:Panic ! Nah, it's probably a load of tosh

A south african representative rubbished the claims today, and has stated all but 1 stadium will be ready in 09, the other in January 2010 due to council issues.
He said Blatter is a clown for suggesting a plan B to take into account an unforseen natural disaster and telling this to the public!

Yeah, South Africa would be bad to host a world cup, climate, safety issues and all that.
If Australia liked soccer a bit more and made actual soccer stadiums how good would that be to have the world cup here.
Sadly it will never happen
