Re: Matildas on the move
Interesting to know which ones are attending College University, I do know one Matilda Clare Polkinghorne has made a commitment to a Californian University, and some other Aussies have Scholarships will be playing in the NCAA, which is amateur status.
The NCAA is not affiliated with Soccer USA or FIFA. The NCAA is purely the convenor of College competition, with stringent rules of their own. To stay eligible to play one has to maintain certain academic grades. The participants in the NCAA are students first athletes second. In the NCAA rules a team can replace their whole team at half time with another team of players. So interchange is very liberal. lol. If one goes to website; http://www.soccerbuzz.com one will find 6 or 7 aussie girls among some 1500 new signings for 2008.
Lisa is a professional as is Stacy Stocco, and any other Aussie who plays in the W- League for wages. Di, Cheryl and others who played in the defunct Professional league in the USA are/were professional. Nenita, Gianna and Erin play in a school competition (the NCAA) and still Fulham players until they play for a club in the USA or anywhere else affiliated with Soccer USA and FIFA, where they will require clearances. One can read up on the internet about the NCAA. Soccer (in the USA) Rules. Scholarship rules etc. Hope those with some spare time find it fascinating as I have over the past few years.
