Federation Cup Round 1?????

Post by Left Right Out »

According to the FFSA Web site Timelines the Federation Cup Round 1 is MEANT to be this weekend BUT nothing has been said about it so I called the Federation this morning and was told thet

THERE IS NO ROUND 1 DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST!!!! ROUND 2 IS ON MAY 19th

Only 28 teams have nominated and only about 2 or 3 from outside STATE, PREMIER and SUPER League teams.

I know that Gardens applied for it this year and I asked why is there a lack of interest the answer was basically that The Federation of SA dont really Advertise it and that the Amateur League didnt want to plug it either.

SO I dont know if its too late but the application forms are on the FFSA Website, its $100 per team to enter, ALL GAMES PLAYED ON SATURDAYS!!!

This is just my opnion and not that of the club I play for, I think its good for amatuer clubs to play in the fed cup. The only problem is, like last year, if play a saturday game you can play the next day again and the amatuer league is unlikely to help you out to postpone it so I think alot of amatuer clubs dont bother with it anymore which is a shame because it feels like a FA cup and it puts up a challage to some amatuer teams if they draw a premier or state league or even a lower super league club.

Yes it would be good for amateur teams to play in the fed cup. It would also be good if amateur teams could play on the same terms as the fed teams. That is not have to play on both days on the week-end etc. Same old problem as always, feds and amateurs both to stubborn to come to an agreement that could actually benefit football in SA.

Personally, I joined amateur league mainly for the socialising and fitness, but how many of us could back up 2 games in the same number of days????? Cup rounds definitely add another dimension and excitement to the league, there definitely has to be equilibrium with the FFSA and if cup rounds are going to be introduced, then keep them within their respective leagues. i.e. Sunday Amateurs all divs play off and likewise for Saturday and all other levels.

We all love the game we play and the more home & away games we have, the more each host club will financially benefit and grow as a whole.

Bring on the Cup rounds as designated by the weekend day they play!
