STIC tournament

Post by juniorsupporter »

Does anyone have a fixtures list for the STIC tournament this weekend? I know I'm being optimistic in thinking that one might exist already when there are still 5 days left until the tournament-

Friday night? That's interesting- tournament has always been Saturday, Sunday, Monday- I'd really like to know if we're playing in Burton on Friday night as we are in the south and that's a long hike in rush hour traffic. Given that rials were only held two and a half weeks before the tournament I guess I shouldn't be surprised that we don't know anything about the fixtures yet. Pretty average. :x

The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work.

Thanks M@rvin. Interesting that teams each play back to back games once on the weekend. And no prelim or grand finals. Must be trying to take Win/lose out of the equation so the coaches and teams can focus on play the system?

Interesting scheduling of games. The Northern and Central STIC squads each play four games in less than 24 hours. Is their skill and comprehension of the game being looked at,or their fitness and endurance ? Oh well I suppose they are allowed to go home and have a sleep after their first game.

They're all in the same boat. The optomistic part of me wants to say that the scheduling is deliberate and it is all a test, which it should be IMO. The other part reminds me that we only had trials less than three weeks ago and just got the fixtures on Tuesday. I guess we all need to choose what to believe. Point is all the players are trailing for bigger and better opportunities every minute they're on the pitch.

I cant beleive for the better part of it (lack of organisation) this year, for one I cant understand a winter sport being cancelled due to rain. I am a coach and I know that I have had girls play and want to train in weather like yesterday cause its fun, If the pitches are in such poor condition then this is a good reason the whole event shouldnt have been moved from Para Hills. There pitches would be copping ok with this. Please FFSA think about the whole event better next year keep it the same and go back to Para Hills Its been great there every year ive been.

From the U13 and U14 games that I saw, there was some fantastic quality on display.

Well done to players and coaches for putting on a show of entertaining junior football.

Despite a previous posters username, I am inclined to agree with some of his comments regarding the organisation of the event. Trial dates were very short notice (2 weeks before the event), so there was very little opportunity for proper selection and training. Hey, great for my daughter - all she had to do was show up at trials and get on the team!. However, I'm not sure this is the best way to go about STIC selection.

As to pitch condition, Maybe some over reaction on the Friday night? I was a bit concerned when rumours abounded the whole tournament was looking like being cancelled at one point. Glad comonsense prevailed.

Despite all these hurdles, it was a great a event and wonderful to see the quality of play amongst the girls over the weekend.

Two U14 games starting at 9am, then a w-league trial game, then 2 more u14 games. Part of trial process for NTC squad that will play in prems next year.
