Serie A Round 2
Milan 2 - 2 Lazio
Klose 12 (L), Cisse' 22 (L), Ibrahimovic 29 (M), Cassano 33 (M)
Stadio Meazza
Antonio Cassano's Milan came back from 2-0 down in a spectacular draw after Miroslav Klose and Djibril Cisse' scored on Lazio debuts.
The Serie A season kicked off at San Siro with the reigning champions beginning the defence of their title against a Lazio side who pushed hard for Champions League football last term.
Robinho, Clarence Seedorf and Gianluca Zambrotta were not risked ahead of the trip to Barcelona, so with Philippe Mexes, Taye Taiwo and Mathieu Flamini sidelined, Alberto Aquilani made his first appearance in a Milan jersey. Lazio lost Lorik Cana, Stefan Radu, Giuseppe Sculli, Marius Stankevicius and the suspended Federico Marchetti. Djibril Cisse' and Miroslav Klose got their Serie A debuts, while goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri had his first League game in two and a half years.
Lazio last conquered San Siro in Serie A with a 1-0 result on September 3, 1989. That was followed by 13 defeats and eight draws, but they were also unbeaten here since September 2008.
Aquilani should've given Milan the lead after seven minutes when a wonderful Ibra through ball released him clear on goal, but he hesitated and fired straight at the goalkeeper from six yards. Moments later, Stefano Mauri flashed a ball across the face of goal, but Klose couldn't quite make contact at full stretch.
Lazio broke the deadlock with Klose taking under 12 minutes to mark his Serie A debut. It was a well-worked move, as Klose hooked a Mauri ball past Alessandro Nesta with his right foot to fire low from nine yards with his left. However, there were some doubts over a handling offence.
It was so nearly 2-0, as Cisse' pounced on a defensive error when Nesta crashed into Gennaro Gattuso, but Christian Abbiati beat the shot away and Klose fired wide under pressure. Gattuso picked up an eye injury during that incident and had to make way for the not 100 per cent fit Mark Van Bommel.
Lazio did double their lead with another goal from their debutant strikers. Cisse' powered in the header between defenders to put Mauri's cross into the near top corner. Abbiati was rooted to the spot.
Milan got themselves back into the game when Cassano sprung the offside trap from an Aquilani ball over the top and rolled it back into the middle for Ibra's easiest of tap-ins.
Kevin-Prince Boateng unleashed a snapshot that Bizzarri just about turned round the near post. However, from the corner Cassano got a glancing header that squirmed past the goalkeeper at the back stick to equalise.
Lazio should've been back in front when Abdoulay Konko burst down the right, but his pull-back for an unmarked Hernanes was somehow scuffed wide!
Right after the restart, a Cassano solo effort saw his angled drive flash inches past the base of the far post. Boateng then just missed with a diving header, but landed awkwardly and was able to continue after treatment to his shoulder.
Milan were now dominating and Cassano almost scored a sensational goal. He chested down Ibra's chipped pass and smacked a shot against the base of the near post. Moments later Cassano turned provider for Boateng, his volley stinging Bizzarri's palms as it headed towards the top corner.
However, there was a huge scare when Abbiati rushed off his line and missed the ball, but Nesta stuck to Cisse' like glue to acrobatically block the finish in front of an open goal.
Klose was getting tired and made way for Alejandro Gonzalez, while Antonio Nocerino made his Milan debut in place of Aquilani. Alexandre Pato was also thrown on as the Rossoneri pushed to win in the final stages. Senad Lulic made his Serie A bow, but Mauri was booked for taking too long to leave the field.
Bizzarri plucked an Ignazio Abate cross off the feet of Ibrahimovic, then Lulic desperately anticipated Cassano on the counter. Cassano theaded through to release Ibrahimovic, but Bizzarri got down to beat away the angled drive.
In stoppages Pato fired over the bar from a very promising position and wasted Milan's opportunity to win. Ibrahimovic then stumbled over a combination of the ball and Luciano Zauri when Giuseppe Biava made a mistake in the offside trap.
There was controversy at the 95th minute of stoppages when Milan were awarded a corner, but the referee called a halt to the game before it could be taken.
Milan: Abbiati; Abate, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Antonini; Gattuso (Van Bommel 20), Ambrosini, Aquilani (Nocerino 68); Boateng (Pato 75); Ibrahimovic, Cassano
Lazio: Bizzarri; Konko, Biava, Dias, Zauri; Ledesma, Brocchi; Cissè, Hernanes (Matuzalem 85), Mauri (Lulic 79); Klose (Gonzalez 68)

Re: Serie A Round 2
Cesena debut artificial pitch
Cesena-Napoli is the first Serie A game to be played on an artificial pitch, but Genoa and Chievo want to follow suit.
Novara’s Stadio Piola already had synthetic turf last season in Serie B and the same company has installed a similar playing surface in Cesena’s Stadio Manuzzi.
Tomorrow evening the match with Napoli will be a rare occasion for Italian football and an opportunity to test out the new system.
It is already rumoured that Genoa and Chievo could also adopt the synthetic pitch after repeated problems with the weather in recent years.
“It’s true we did have a discussion with these clubs,” revealed Maurizio Stroppiana, President of the Mondo artificial turf developers.
“However, it’s still a long way off, as the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and Stadio Bentegodi are both owned by the local council, so there are others to talk to before we can make progress.”
The installation of the artificial pitch costs around €500,000 to €700,000.
“The initial expenditure is twice as much as natural grass, but within a few years that money is recouped because it is so much easier to maintain,” added Mondo director Claudio Pavani.
For example, Milan and Inter have to re-lay the entire San Siro pitch every few weeks because the third tier makes it very difficult for the grass to stay healthy.

Re: Serie A Round 2
Serie A Week 2 - 10/9/11 (19.45 UK)
Cesena - Napoli
Stadio Manuzzi
Optimism kicks off the season in Emilia-Romagna this weekend – and not just that of the visiting side Napoli.
Indeed, Cesena go into the game with a great deal of positive energy. A better-than-expected first season back in Serie A has been followed by a better-than-expected transfer window that sees the likes of Antonio Candreva and Adrian Mutu line up in Cavallucci Marini shirts.
Technical director Lorenzo Minotti, however, has pointed out the club’s biggest coup has been Coach Marco Giampaolo, someone he describes as one of Italy’s most popular Coaches. Giampaolo returns to Serie A with an element of something to prove however, in light of a disappointing end to his Catania tenure last season, where his team struggled to score goals.
Bookmakers also have Cesena as third favourites for relegation, even as the club is set for record support this season, having sold their highest number of season tickets ever in the build-up for a campaign.
Saturday offers a reasonable test of how far the team have developed, as they welcome the side that comfortably beat them 4-1 to in the same fixture last season.
Not playing in their favour though is that those returning opponents, Napoli, are all the more stronger themselves having bought big across all areas of the pitch in the summer.
The players, though, would be forgiven for having one eye already on their Champions League campaign that begins in midweek away to Manchester City. For instance, Paolo Cannavaro spoke of the balance that needs to be struck between the League and Europe, before admitting the excitement and tension that is dominating the dressing room ahead of the return to the European Cup after two decades.
However, expectations are that the club is in a position for a strong domestic showing and even a Scudetto push, making starting the season with a win, particularly away from home, looking important.
Two sides with different reasons for needing a strong start to the season meet on Saturday, with plenty of new faces to keep an eye out for too.
Keep an eye on: Edinson Cavani (Napoli) – No one is worth following more than Edinson Cavani at the moment. The striker with 26 League goals to his name last year has endured a frustrating personal summer, having not scored a goal in four months. For Napoli to progress this season, a lot relies on his scoring again. Failure to put in a performance against Cesena could really play on his mind..
Last season: Cesena 1-4 Napoli
Stat fact: Napoli failed to score away from home only three times last season, the second best such away scoring record after Roma.
Cesena (probable): Antonioli; Comotto, Von Bergen, Rossi, Lauro; Parolo, Colucci, Candreva; Eder, Mutu, Martinez
Napoli (probable): De Sanctis; Campagnaro, Cannavaro, Aronica; Maggio, Inler, Dzemaili, Dossena; Hamsik, Lavezzi; Cavani

Re: Serie A Round 2
Serie A Week 2 - 11/9/11 (19.45 UK)
Palermo - Inter
Stadio Barbera
Palermo and Inter open their respective campaigns with equal measures of uncertainty over new Coaches, but it is peppered with cautious optimism.
Devis Mangia has set about quickly winning over his players, having been given just a few training sessions to prepare for Inter’s visit this weekend, and his debut as a Coach in Serie A. Despite his lack of experience though, he comes with the recommendation of promising sporting director Sean Sogliano, and a comparison with Pep Guardiola, courtesy of Maurizio Zamparini.
Where interest and optimism surrounds Mangia’s work, and in his preferred 4-4-2 system, it is not shared with the fans, with ticket sales below expected levels, and an anticipated crowd of just 20,000 to fill the 36,000 Renzo Barbera capacity.
Inter, meanwhile, also had a mid-summer managerial change, and see Gian Piero Gasperini lead the team into the new season, where it was previously expected to be Leonardo.
Pre-season has been mixed, with the loss of Samuel Eto’o matched with uncertainty over the implementation of Gasperini’s desired 3-4-3 formation.
In all, the team enters the new season very much still as a work in progress, with the balance between tactics and players yet to be determined, and Milan and even Napoli placed ahead of them by bookmakers.
Encouragingly though for Gasperini and the supporters, new signings Mauro Zarate and Diego Forlan are both in line for their Inter debuts having trained with the team all week. Perhaps more important than the performance is the result, with Inter more so than in recent years needing a win on the opening weekend of the season.
Indeed, as the contrasting relationships between the dressing room and their respective Coaches Rafa Benitez and Leonardo demonstrated, a positive first run of games can be all the difference between winning the support of the players or not.
Keep an eye on: Diego Forlan (Inter) – Where Mauro Zarate has pulled focus for his arrival after a stormy relationship with his previous Coach, Forlan took headlines in Spain with his sharp criticism of a poor relationship with his former boss. The striker has started his time in Italy on the wrong foot, as he also admitted to having wanted to remain at Atletico Madrid. How he responds on the pitch will be interesting.
Last season: Palermo 1-2 Inter
Stat fact: Palermo have not beaten Inter at home since a 3-2 victory in September 2005, since then, failing to score more than one goal in a game at the Renzo Barbera against the Nerazzurri.
Palermo (probable): Tzorvas; Pisano, Cetto, Silvestre, Balzaretti; Alvarez, Migliaccio, Barreto, Ilicic; Hernandez, Miccoli
Inter (probable): Cesar; Lucio, Ranocchia, Samuel; Zanetti, Stankovic, Sneijder, Nagatomo; Zarate, Pazzini, Forlan

Re: Serie A Round 2
Serie A Week 2 - 11/9/11 (11.30 UK)
Juventus - Parma
Juventus Arena
It’s the beginning of yet another new era at Juventus as they entertain Parma – in a game that pretty much shattered the Old Lady’s 2010-11 hopes.
Meeting in the first League tie of 2011 on January 6, the Turin giants almost instantly lost Fabio Quagliarella to a serious knee injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season, Felipe Melo was dismissed and Juve crumbled to a 4-1 home defeat with the on-loan Sebastian Giovinco scoring twice against them.
Before that loss, Juventus were pushing for a place in the top three after going 13 games undefeated in the championship. They subsequently lost six of their next 10 as their campaign fizzled out to a disappointing end. They finished seventh for the second consecutive season and failed to qualify for any European football.
Gigi Del Neri was subsequently sacked as in came Juventus legend Antonio Conte. With a more attacking 4-4-2 brand of football, the outfit had to again invest heavily on the transfer market to meet the Coach’s needs. Stephan Lichtsteiner, Mirko Vucinic, Arturo Vidal, Eljero Elia and Andrea Pirlo are just some of the big name players who have arrived, but doubts remain over the defence.
How Juventus do under Conte, who has demanded for the club’s mythical spirit to re-emerge, is one of the most intriguing storylines of the new season. President Andrea Agnelli has conceded that there are some sides in the Division better equipped, but he’s confident that the team can enjoy a successful campaign. A top three finish has to be the priority – even if few in Turin are saying that in public.
Parma’s ambitions for the season ahead are a little less grand. A late change in Coach with the hiring of Franco Colomba saw them avoid relegation last spring, and they’ll be looking for a far more tranquil Serie A campaign this time around.
The club moved smartly in the transfer market, especially in attack where they have had to replace Amauri after he returned to Juve on loan. Given that he’s not the most popular guy in Turin right now, there is no chance that he could come back to haunt the Gialloblu. It remains to be seen whether deadline day signing Sergio Floccari will start in attack.
Parma have a surprisingly good record of late against the Bianconeri. They’ve won all three of their last League meetings, two of them in Turin. However, this tie will be played in the Old Lady’s brand new arena after its official opening against Notts County on Thursday– Juve won’t want to baptise it in Serie A with a defeat.
Conte is definitely without Vincenzo Iaquinta, while there are some doubts over Milos Krasic, Vucinic and Alessandro Matri. Parma’s treatment room contains Massimo Gobbi, Raffaele Palladino, Jaime Valdes and Danilo Pereira.
Keep an eye on: Sebastian Giovinco (Parma) – Co-owned between both clubs, Giovinco scored twice in this game last season. Juve’s lack of belief in him has frustrated the pint-sized forward in the past. He’d like to, yet again, prove his worth – especially in Juve’s new home.
Last season: Juventus 1-4 Parma
Stat fact: Expect the net to ripple. In 19 League meetings in Turin, this game has produced 62 goals at an average of over three per tie. Juve have also never failed to score against the Gialloblu at home.
Juventus (probable): Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Chiellini, De Ceglie; Krasic, Marchisio, Pirlo, Vidal [Elia]; Vucinic [Del Piero], Matri
Parma (probable): Mirante; Zaccardo, Paletta, Lucarelli, Rubin; Valiani, Morrone, Galloppa, Modesto; Giovinco, Pelle

Re: Serie A Round 2
Pretty impressed with Lazio, Klose and Cisse both looked good, backed by that excellent schemer Mauri. Two assists by him, he is class.
Milans back four were woeful in the first half. Cassano was sublime.
On the Napoli game, dangerous but still expect a win - if Mazzari plays Aronica, it could be suicide, he is an absolute liability. We have just bought Federico Fernandez, 2 or 3 caps for Argentina at 21 and he persists with that scrubber Aronica, I dont understand it.
Juve to play a 4-0-6 formation as they have a million forwards on their books.

Re: Serie A Round 2
Wow. What a difference a few months, a new manager, new players and a new stadium makes. Completely different Juve and dominated Parma from start to finish. Hopefully we can keep it up!

When they say it, it would be because they have no idea!Scumgrief wrote:and they say the italian league is boring!!!
That was just about the perfect match. The best thing about it was, bar the end, we gave Parma nothing at all. Last season this sort of game would have seen the opposition control the game and have plenty of chances. We pressed forward for 90 minutes.
The goals were great, especially Marchisio, who always scores classy goals. The new players all impressed too.
But, it is only one match, can't get carried away. And Grosso will start next week because of the red card.

Re: Serie A Round 2
Don't be surprised if chiellini starts on the left and bonucci starts in cb. Great first game

Re: Serie A Round 2
That would be better.
Other results:
Catania 0 - 0 Siena
Chievo 2 - 2 Novara
Fiorentina 2 - 0 Bologna
Genoa 2 - 2 Atalanta
Lecce 0 - 2 Udinese
Roma 1 - 2 Cagliari
Great fightback from new boys Novara to get a draw. Atalanta also took Genoa all the way and go to -5 points. Genoa will be encouraged by Veloso's goal.
Comfortable wins for Udinese (Di Natale on target as usual) and Fiorentina, for whom Gilardino and Cerci found the net.
And of course Roma do as really only they are possible.

Serie A Week 2 - 11/9/11 (19.45 UK)
Palermo 4 - 3 Inter
Milito 33, pen 51 (I), Miccoli 48, 86 (P), Hernandez 54 (P), Pinilla 88 (P), Forlan 91 (I)
Stadio Barbera
Palermo and their brand new Coach fought back twice to stun Inter 4-3 in an absolutely spectacular encounter!
Gian Piero Gasperini shelved the experiments and returned to his favoured 3-4-3 system, which meant benching Wesley Sneijder. He opted for a trident attack with Milito joined by deadline day signings Zarate and Diego Forlan. Douglas Maicon, Emiliano Viviano, Ivan Cordoba, Thiago Motta, Cristian Chivu and Andrea Poli were injured. Therefore, Javier Zanetti was moved to the three-man defence.
Palermo made their debut under Coach Devis Mangia, the promoted youth team boss after Stefano Pioli was sacked on September 1. He arguably had nothing to lose, as the Sicilians hadn't won this fixture since a 3-2 result in September 2005. Giulio Migliaccio continued his experiment of playing in central defence.
The Rosanero had a very aggressive start and pinned Inter back, as Julio Cesar had to beat away an Abel Hernandez header from mohican-haired Fabrizio Miccoli's cross.
Jonathan attempted several step-overs to burst past Federico Balzaretti and flung himself to the ground the moment he felt his shirt slightly tugged, but the referee waved play on.
Javier Zanetti needed all his experience to stop Hernandes going clear on goal from a Miccoli through ball. Miccoli sprung the offside trap in the centre-circle and rushed towards goal, almost mugging Julio Cesar at the by-line.
Inter started to come out of their shells and scored against the run of play. A corner came out to Dejan Stankovic, celebrating his 33rd birthday, and the wayward strike was redirected from six yards by Milito. El Principe was in the right place at the right time.
Gasperini had already prepared a substitution, replacing the ineffective Zarate with Sneijder. Miccoli's effort was deflected off Walter Samuel to make it easy for Julio Cesar. At the other end, Migliaccio did enough to put off Forlan as he tried to control a Yuto Nagatomo counter-attack.
The three-man Inter defence was caught out at the dawn of the second half, as Miccoli sprung the offside trap with a wonderful first touch on the outside of his right boot and coolly smashed it past Julio Cesar.
Moments later, Milito was absolutely livid. Forlan pulled back from the by-line for Milito and Migliaccio performed a goalline clearance, but it was probably off his arm. It didn't matter, as from the corner Samuel was hauled down by Barreto for a spot-kick. Milito stepped up and sent the Greek goalkeeper the wrong way to complete his brace.
However, there was barely time to stop celebrating when Palermo were level again. Josip Ilicic and Miccoli combined beautifully to slice the defence into shreds, Hernandez tapping in the return pass from six yards.
Milito threatened a hat-trick from a very right angle, while Zanetti received a rare booking for bringing down Ilicic. Julio Cesar just about punched a low Miccoli free kick away from a crowd of waiting Palermo vultures.
Zanetti held off Hernandez in a one-on-one in the box, but when Palermo had another counter with Ilicic clear on goal, he fired straight at the 'keeper. It was end-to-end stuff and Hernandez had a goal ruled offside - correctly.
Samuel was fortunate to avoid a second yellow card for his late tackle on Hernandez, much to the chagrin of the Stadio Barbera crowd. From that free kick, Julio Cesar had his palms stung by another Miccoli screamer.
Ricky Alvarez made his Serie A debut in another attacking substitution by Gasperini. Joel Obi went on a wonderful run from midfield until his shot was charged down for a corner. Jonathan did the same on the right flank.
Just as Inter were starting to build pressure, Palermo took the lead for the first time with a classic Miccoli free kick! It bent over the wall and past Julio Cesar's outstretched hand to clip the inside of the near post.
Palermo put it beyond doubt with an amazing goal! Jonathan lost the ball down the left flank and substitute Mauricio Pinilla hit a sudden swerving missile from 25 metres that flew under the bar, entirely to Julio Cesar's surprise.
It still wasn't over, as in stoppages Forlan trapped a Sneijder pass and thumped it past Tzorvas to score on his Serie A debut.
Palermo: Tzorvas; Pisano, Silvestre, Migliaccio, Balzaretti; E Alvarez, Barreto, Della Rocca (Acquah 46), Ilicic (Bertolo 68); Hernandez (Pinilla 74), Miccoli
Inter: Julio Cesar; Lucio, Samuel, Zanetti; Jonathan, Stankovic, Cambiasso (Alvarez 71), Nagatomo (Obi 61); Zarate (Sneijder 34), Milito, Forlan

Juventus 4-1 Parma
Franco Colomba: “We gave far too much space to a strong side that was full of enthusiasm in its new stadium. We will try to learn from this defeat.”
Catania 0-0 Siena
Vincenzo Montella: “We gave our all on the field, but it was difficult to find spaces. We had several players who were not in peak physical condition. This season we hope to get a few more away victories.”
Giuseppe Sannino: “I am happy because I saw the lads work very hard. We earned a valuable and important point that boosts morale.”
Chievo 2-2 Novara
Domenico Di Carlo: “The game changed with Gennaro Sardo’s dismissal and we paid a heavy price for defensive errors. We still have to improve in midfield.”
Attilio Tesser: “In the second half we put in a great performance and fully deserved the point. There was also a clear penalty that we were not awarded.”
Fiorentina 2-0 Bologna
Sinisa Mihajlovic: “I am happy with the performance, less so the chances we wasted. The team showed great character and its own solid identity.”
Pierpaolo Bisoli: “Despite the defeat, we put in a good game, playing right to the end without giving up. We’ve got to continue along this path.”
Genoa 2-2 Atalanta
Alberto Malesani: “It went well today, as we weren’t good, but capable. Atalanta certainly played better than we did, so we must be more reactive.”
Stefano Colantuono: “It was an excellent first half performance and the final result was accurate. Maxi Moralez is a player of great talent.”
Lecce 0-2 Udinese
Eusebio Di Francesco: “We conceded far too easily. The reaction in the first half was good, but we made too many mistakes and paid the price.”
Francesco Guidolin: “It was a good performance. We got off to a strong start, showing the same attitude as last season. It’s a solid opening to the campaign and gives us confidence.”
Roma 1-2 Cagliari
Massimo Ficcadenti: “We waited and took the first chance that we created in the second half. That is where we built the victory from.”

Re: Serie A Round 2
Serie A: Did You Know
Atalanta’s Argentine signing Maxi Moralez bagged a brace on his Serie A debut. Arturo Vidal, Djibril Cissè, Miroslav Klose and Mostapha El Kabir also found the net at their first attempts.
It was also the introduction to Serie A for tacticians Eusebio Di Francesco, Devis Mangia and Giuseppe Sannino. Vincenzo Montella is the youngest Coach in Serie A, as the Catania tactician was born on June 18, 1974. Palermo boss Mangia is only 12 days older. The veteran of the Division is Lazio’s Edy Reja, born on October 10, 1945.
Inter had not lost their opening game of the season since falling 2-1 at Reggina on October 1, 2000. Marcello Lippi resigned straight after the final whistle. They had since started the campaign with five wins and as many stalemates.
The Nerazzurri hadn’t conceded four in a single Serie A outing since Roma in March 2004, while the last time they let in four in Sicily was 4-2 on November 20, 1949.
Palermo’s last victory against Inter, home or away in all competition, was 3-2 on September 10, 2005 so they ended a run of four draws and eight losses. Fabrizio Miccoli has put five of his 81 League goals past the Nerazzurri, while Diego Milito hit six of his 53 against Palermo. They are El Principe’s favourite target, along with Cagliari, and this took him to 100 official goals for Italian clubs.
Dejan Stankovic celebrated both his 33rd birthday and his 300th official match in an Inter jersey, which include 210 Serie A, 25 Coppa Italia, seven Italian Super Cup, 55 Champions League, one European Super Cup and two Club World Cup appearances.
Milan-Lazio has ended in a draw for three years on the trot. The last three debuts as Champions of Italy have all been 2-2 results, against Lecce in 1999-00 and Livorno in 2004-05. Antonio Cassano got his 85th Serie A goal, but only the 14th header. Both Cassano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have now put six past Lazio in their careers.
The Biancocelesti are still without a League victory over Milan, home or away, since a 2-1 at the Olimpico in 1998, followed by 13 draws and 14 defeats. Djibril Cissè had already scored against Milan in Liverpool’s Champions League winning penalty shoot-out in 2005.
Cesena have never beaten Napoli in all 29 meetings between Serie A and B, losing 19. The Cavallucci Marini continue to start the new top flight season without a victory, having managed just five draws from 12 debuts. Roberto Guana’s third Serie A goal was his first since April 11 2010.
Napoli hadn’t won their opening top flight game since a 1-0 over Reggiana on September 4, 1994, notching up three draws and five defeats. Hugo Campagnaro’s fifth Serie A goal was his first since a 1-1 at Milan on March 21, 2010. In his Italian career, the Argentine has put two past both Cesena and Bari, his joint favourite targets. Marek Hamsik took his tally to 42 and Ezequiel Lavezzi 30.
Juventus hadn’t beaten Parma in Serie A since January 6, 2010, a 2-1 result at the Tardini, losing their next three meetings home and away. The last time the Bianconeri scored four Serie A goals in Turin was October 17, 2010 against Lecce. Antonio Conte finally started a campaign with a victory after four draws at the helm of Arezzo, Bari, Atalanta and Siena. Stephan Lichtsteiner got his fourth Serie A goal, where he hadn’t scored since Milan 1-1 Lazio on March 28, 2009, while Simone Pepe reached 23 and Claudio Marchisio 11.
Parma hadn’t lost their opening game of the season since a 2-1 away to Atalanta in 1992-93, followed by five wins and 13 stalemates between Serie A and B. Sebastian Giovinco has put four of his total 17 Serie A goals past parent club Juventus, his favourite target, and celebrated his 100th top flight appearance.
Roma have played three official games this season, losing two and drawing the other. Their last home defeat to Cagliari was 4-1 on November 17, 1968, ending a run of 14 wins and 13 stalemates. In all the Sardinians have conquered the Capital three times in 33 Serie A attempts, drawing 14. Daniele De Rossi’s 30th Serie A goal was scant consolation. Daniele Conti is the son of Giallorossi legend Bruno and grew up in their youth system, but they are his favourite ‘victims,’ as five of his career 29 strikes were against the Lupi.
Siena have drawn six of their last eight trips to Catania between Serie A and B, interrupting the run with a win each. They have never lost to the Sicilians in the top flight with seven draws and two victories. Gaetano D’Agostino marked his 200th Serie A match.
Chievo have welcomed Novara in four official meetings, winning two and drawing one. Sergio Pellissier got his 73rd top flight goal, the third for Cyril Thereau. Novara made their return to Serie A after 55 years and hadn’t marked a draw since the 1-1 at Sampdoria on April 29, 1956. Francesco Marianini scored his second top flight goal after netting with Empoli against Siena on December 20, 2006. Massimo Paci’s ninth Serie A strike was his first since April 6, 2008, Parma 2-2 Lazio.
Fiorentina hadn’t beaten Bologna, home or away, since February 2, 2009 with a 3-1 victory at the Stadio Dall’Ara, followed by three draws and a defeat. Alberto Gilardino took his Serie A tally to 141 goals, matching Montella’s career total. Alessio Cerci only has eight in his top flight career, but seven of them were scored in his last six games.
Bologna’s last opening day defeat was 1-0 at Cagliari in September 2004, having registered two wins and four stalemates between Serie A and B. Simone Loria marked his 100th Serie A match.
Miguel Veloso got his first Serie A goal, while it was the 11th for Giandomenico Mesto. Alberto Malesani is without a win in his last 10 League games including last season at Bologna, losing six. Atalanta have drawn two of their last three trips to Marassi in Serie A, losing the other.
Between Serie A and Coppa Italia, Lecce have lost their last three consecutive home outings. Udinese keep a clean sheet at the Stadio Via del Mare for the first time in their last 19 Serie A visits, having previously conceded 29 goals. Their last top flight victory here was 2-1 on April 15, 2006, followed by a draw and a defeat. Dusan Basta scored his debut Serie A goal, but Antonio Di Natale rose to 131. He is now just one shy of Marco Di Vaio and Spillo Altobelli.

Forza Viola!
Happy to see Lazio performing straight from the off. Still think Milan have the best squad in the league and that they should win the scudetto. very happy to see Inter lose. hopefully Roma give Luis Enrique time to settle his squad and I think that whilst they wont have the best season this year, next year should be much, much better. Keen to watch their second half of the season results.
Have to agree with you on the Marchisio statement Juventino, he is a classy, classy footballer. Love watching him and Krasic. Elia should liven up the side, and they have options to attack on left and right now. Krasic/Elia will terrorise full backs all year.

At least Quags would have got a seat on the bench with Napoli!
Luca Toni in front of Quags...........he must be thinking whats my next move?????

Five banned for Serie A
Juventus left-back Paolo De Ceglie is one of five players who have been suspended for the Week 3 games.
The former Italian Under-21 international was dismissed late on in the Old Lady’s 4-1 win over Parma on Sunday.
As a result, he’ll now miss the away game against Siena next weekend.
The other four players who have been ruled out for the next 90 minutes of action are Benalouane (Cesena), Birsa (Genoa), Sardo (Chievo) and Jose Angel (Roma).

Serie A: Team of the Week
Albano Benjamin Bizzarri [Lazio]
A fabulous debut for the Argentine as he superbly denied Milan a comeback win. Foiling Aquilani, he also blocked Cassano several times before bravely saving at the feet of Ibra then pushing a Boateng stinger round the post. Commanding.
Stephan Lichtsteiner [Juventus]
Never stopped running and menaced every time he ran at the visitors’ defence. The new boy was in exactly the right place to exploit Pirlo’s perfect pass to slip round Mirante for the opener. Stunning.
Hugo Campagnaro [Napoli]
Another top performance and assisted Lavezzi’s goal with a superb throw in. Caused problems with his strong running before scoring himself by being perfectly placed to slide the ball home. Imposing.
Dusan Basta [Udinese]
The Serbian defender gelled with Torje immediately and scored within two minutes of the kick-off. Always pressing up field, he had also a massive hand in Toto’s goal and impressed all-round. Stupefying.
Simone Pepe [Juventus]
Dominated down the right flank but never forgot his defensive duties. Almost scored but his shot was blocked at the last moment. Yet minutes later there was no stopping his angled shot as it flew into the bottom corner. Unstoppable.
Marek Hamsik [Napoli]
The Slovenian magician began controlling the game when he came on and inspired the visitors to push on and win. Set up Campagnaro’s goal with a clever pass then scored himself with an absolute 20 yard stonker. Inevitable.
Andrea Pirlo [Juventus]
Man of the Match, no doubt, and fit into the team system like he belonged. Showed all the elegant technique he is renowned for and set up both Lichtsteiner and Marchisio while simply oozing grace with every move. Inexorable.
Daniele Conti [Cagliari]
The former Roma player blunted any danger in midfield continually testing the hosts at every turn. He was eventually rewarded for his determination with a well taken goal after exploiting a mistake by Jose Angel. Menacing.
Fabrizio Miccoli [Palermo]
Led by example and severely tested Inter’s defence throughout. Scored after magnificently controlling Baretto’s pass before slotting the ball past Cesar. Also set up Hernandez prior to hitting his second from a 25 yard free kick. Relentless.
Miroslav Klose [Lazio]
Scored within 12 minutes on his debut with a cracking shot from 10 yards out. Worked well with Cisse and his physical approach was generally too much for Nesta and the home defence. Classy.
Antonio Cassano [Milan]
Absolutely dazzling and thoroughly deserved his Man of the Match status. His superb ball set up Ibra with an easy tap-in before scoring himself with a smart header from a corner. Astounding.

lost? and they win like that? did you even see the game?
its interesting, as he is playing to get players in support around Del Piero. They can play like that as Pirlo sits back and dictates. Wont work against better sides as well, but good for an attacking gameplan.
