Modbury Vista ( 4 ) Southern Knights ( 1 )...with pics

Post by swannsong »

Modbury Vista ( 4 ) Southern Knights ( 1 )
Scott Gannon 2 ................ Alex Field
Mark Clayton
Aras Shaksi

Southern Knights ventured north to Richardson Reserve, Wynn Vale hoping for a little respite (in the form of points) in their battle with relegation reality.
In their way was Modbury Vista who, having secured promotion to the SAASL Sunday Premier Division for 2012, were chasing Salisbury Inter for the Division 2 title.
Southern Knights started out confidently with a good passing game..Steve Maguire, hampered by a niggling injury, took up the goalkeeper role and Lyndon Parry was brought in to help counter the loss of Bradley Armour and Scott Bradley.
Unfortunately it was Vista who took the lead through Scott Gannon following a mistimed kick and goalmouth scramble.
David Mooney had several near misses and was looking in dangerous form and Micky Paay, Lee White, Glen Crute and Alex Field worked with Lyndon Parry in defense. Paul Martin was putting in one of his best performances in defense and midfield whilst Chris Bradley, Ben Jones and Matt Harrison looked for away through the tight Vista defence.
It took a goal of the season effort from Alex Field to level the scoreline in about the 20th minute. when he drove the ball passed Vista's keeper from close to 40 metres.
The game was finely balanced at half time 1-1.
The loss of David Mooney at half time resulting from an earlier head clash was a big blow for Knights and Anthony Micheal was brought on for only his second spell with the A's since signing.
Vista took the lead when Scott Gannon laid the ball on for Aras Shaksi on the edge of the area and he hammered home the ball for I think, his first league goal for 2011.
From that point on, despite still playing some good footbal, Knights seemed a pace behind the fitter Vista side who contered quickly and despite several great saves from Steve Maguire, they found themselves 3-1 down when Scott Gannon pounced onto a Maguire save deflection.
Vistas 4th goal came from Mark Clayton when he drove home a fine header when given way too much freedom at the back post from a Vista corner.

Special thanks to the Modbury Vista Club ( DOC and Outlaw for the chat and beer and depressing results updates) for their hospitality and best of luck for 2012.

Modbury Vista ( 4 ) Southern Knights ( 3 )
Fabian Rocca 2 ................ Paul Thompson 2
T.O.G. (Boyd Lewis) ......... Dustin McMahon
??????

The Reserves clash between Modbury Vista and Southern Knights was to and fro encounter where the fitter side ran out the winner (despite Knights scoring more goals on the day  ).
Paul Thompson with 2 goals and Dustin McMahon continued their duel for leading club goalscorer honours whils substitute Fabian Rocca added to his tally in persuit of the Division 2 Reserves goalscorer award for 2011.
Knights pushed Vista hard all day with Vista's keeper taking out the Club B.O.G. award for the day.

Vista used to love scoring belters against Plympton, ask PC about his ripper and of course his celebration a few years back.

Great to catch up with a few of the Knights boys, had it been at your ground I most certainly would NOT have been playing sweeper :P As far as the pitch goes thats how most pitches are looking this time of year and no one from the Knights complained during the game. . .

Jay the kits remind me more of the Canterbury Bulldogs shirts, having said that they do fit alot tighter than the A's ones
