St. Peters O.C. ( 2 ) Southern Knights ( 1 )
Edward Cooper 2 ?.................David Mooney
Southern Knights faced their third Saturday side in the Challenge Cup today ( having previously knocked out Modbury Jets and Adelaide Comets ) when they travelled to College Park to take on St Peters.
Knights started well and knocked the ball around convincingly but struggled to find an opening through the well organised St Peters defence. David Mooney, returning from a 2 week hiatus, replacing Scott Bradley (work commitments), looked to support Anthony Rideout, Ben Jones and Chris Bradley in attack. Bradley Armour and Steve Maguire patrolled the middle of the park in front of the defense of Paul Martin, Matt Harrison, Lee White and Alex Field. Ben Vidgeon took up the goalkeeping duties and looked solid throughout the game. Glen Crute was brought on to replace an injured Paul Martin before the half time interval.
St Peters looked that they may have had the pace to break through Knights defence, however, midway through the second half, Knights took a 0-1 lead courtesy of a well placed 25 metre angled drive from David Mooney.
St Peters gradually began to outrun Knights and about 10 minutes later equalised through Edward Cooper (I think ?).
With about 8 minutes to go St Peters, looking to have the fitness edge, were able to break through a flat Knights defence and Edward Cooper added his second for the game.
The game was a fairly tough physical encounter with plenty of strong challenges from both sides.
Not a reflection on the game but an observation, the goals at St Peters must be ~10 or more centimetres too short, have a sagging crossbar and are square framed iron.
The College needs to be requested invest in some full sized, round posts (for safety reason I would have thought ?) for the main pitch.

Early pressure for Matt Harrison and Ben "Touch" Vidgeon....note the sagging crossbar !

Anthony Rideout seemed to have 2-3 defenders around him whenever he received the ball.

Ben Jones goes close for Knights.

Bradley Armour was solid in the air winning most contests.

Matt Harrison, Alex Field and Ben Vidgeon look on as Ben Jones clears the defense.

David Mooney finding his game legs after a few frustrating weeks on the sidelines.

St Peters on the attack.

Two in a Roe for St Peters !

Ben Vidgeon looked solid between the sticks throughout the game.

Chris Bradley had a fairly quiet game...despite the referee telling him to pull his shorts up higher :?

Anthony Rideout worked hard all day and received little all day despite some very close attention.

A new sporting fashion accessory from St Peters.

Knights joy is short lived as St Peters celebrate an equaliser.

More close attention for Anthony Rideout and then Knights find themselves 2-1 down with 8 minutes to go.

St Peters stand firm and move into Round 4 with a 2-1 victory.
