I bring you to Law 12 of the game:TheWingBack wrote:I was watching that game...how can a deliberate hand ball by the last defender be a questionable red card, especially as it was going to go over his head to a Uni player running forward on his own for a 1 on 1 with the GK? Got to love excuses!acu_falcon wrote:Adelaide Uni (2) 0 - 0 ACU Falcons (Reserves 4-0)
Not a good result for either team but could have been worse given the A's were missing 2 of the best and the ressies played 80 mins with 10 men after a questionable red card early on.....
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any of the
following seven offences:
Number 4 is: "denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)"
I'm not questioning the fact that he deliberately handled the ball and, what I'm questioning is whether the goal scoring opportunity was obvious becuase from where I was standing (directly opposite the linesman on the goal side in question) it appeared like the thru-pass was going to reach the keeper way before the striker would have got to it should the defender not have handled it, therefore not making it a obvious goal scoring opportunity.
The more appropriate sanction would have been a yellow card also in accordance with Law 12 "There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession"
And chelseaforthewin, I'm sorry I won't be there for our clash this week becuase of work committments but I made a request at the end of last season for that ref to be stood down, whether that happened or not I don't know.
Why dont you just bring your club ref with you if God forbid our guys still there...
