STATE OF PITCHES
I know it's only mid week, but I was wondering, with all the rain we have had over the past couple of days, how are the pitches across the state holding up?
Secondly, what are the rules if you can see mid week that your pitch will be unavailable due to water logging? Do you have the right to move it to another venue or do you play at your oppositions ground? (assuming their pitch is playable)

Your home ground, your decision where you play.onthemound wrote:I know it's only mid week, but I was wondering, with all the rain we have had over the past couple of days, how are the pitches across the state holding up?

Wow, some big matches to be played this week, and possibly some big decisions.
Go away rain

Re: STATE OF PITCHES
Actually its not the home teams decision for first team games. Only the ref can call a first team game off due to the pitch. Clubs make the decision about B's, C's etc and how the pitch will hold up for the A's is always a consideration.crue head wrote:Your home ground, your decision where you play.onthemound wrote:I know it's only mid week, but I was wondering, with all the rain we have had over the past couple of days, how are the pitches across the state holding up?

Our pitch really isn't that bad for the most part of the year. What kills it is 5 teams playing and training on it only where the lights are. We don't have several pitches to train on like other clubs. We generally pull the pin on the the C game if we feel it well get cut up too much for the A's and to some extent the B's which may see those games postponed.
The slope is a different issue altogether. If you don't like the slope, I'd suggest some cement in with the milk and cookies to toughen up a bit

Of course you are going to defend the slope at your pitch Jay by implying that people need to toughen up but I bet if the council offered you a flat pitch (that didn't turn into a bog) you'd take it.
Fact is that IF's ground is well below standard that you would expect from a club befitting your justified lofty heights and achievements and people consistently see it as a blight on your otherwise great club (that has no Pale Ale at the bar

But if you want a Sugar Free, Guava, Strawberry, Banana and Hawaian Pinaple Cruiser with a hint of lemon, they are happy to oblige!

Council want to flatten it but I don't, its a great home ground advantage.Trimboli wrote:Of course you are going to defend the slope at your pitch Jay by implying that people need to toughen up but I bet if the council offered you a flat pitch (that didn't turn into a bog) you'd take it.

Our pitch certainly isn't great but its not the worst.
We use to have Pale Ale but no one drank it so got rid of it. Blondes, TEDS, Heniken and Corona disappear pretty quick at the club.

We had a function which a lot of ladies attended so we were stocked up on our flavoured Vodka's.
I heard the downs faithful weren't shy of a Hawaiian Cruiser so we got extra in.

Yeah it usually holds up well although it got a little chopped up from last nights training. All 3 teams are playing away this week so the pitch should pull through.
Was very funny coming home last night. My flat mate, who plays for a rival club, came home covered in mud and with the remaining grass blades that they had on their pitch in his car. Not sure that their pitch is in the greatest of shape after their coach ordered them to practice slide tackles

Thought it was like that cause RObbo was in goals at the "low" end?

Re: STATE OF PITCHES
A couple of years ago our Reserve team game got called off at this ground, because of a a couple of small pools of water, home team were reluctant for the game to go ahead. When the Referee turned up, he said it would have actually been better if the game went ahead,as it would have spread the water more and help the pitch, particularly as the ground was still firm underneath-he was saying depending on what the surface is like underneath, better if a game is played on it. By the time the A's had finished playing, the pitch was still in good condition.crue head wrote:Your home ground, your decision where you play.onthemound wrote:I know it's only mid week, but I was wondering, with all the rain we have had over the past couple of days, how are the pitches across the state holding up?

It seemed like most pitches survived last weeks rain as most matches went ahead. How are we looking for this weekend?
