So, will the SAASL make the decision based on the refs report, or the refs report + downs account of events + pontians account of events?Ollo Ollo wrote:Why is it that Pontians are involved in these confrontations almost on a weekly basis?marooned wrote:Was not there Nugget, I was told Downs player was elbowed in the face and retaliated, this started an all in and Pontian bench entered the field of play to join in and a couple of Pontian supporters joined in. This is very disappointing and bad form from both players who heated the situation. I hope they both end up with some sort of suspension. What makes this occurrence even worse is that Pontian’s have a fence which all supporters must be behind. If they make the effort to jump the fence and get involved then clearly the ref must report this and the Downs get the points.

I believe the disciplinary committee will hear all accounts, but are most likely to base more weight on the referee's report.

Pontian officials after 10 minutes of the mele going on, couldn't believe the ref had called the game off, meanwhile there were 2 of their supporters on the pitch still arguing and "trying to be tuff" to a number of the Downs players....Bad Form Pontian!

The story I got goes a bit like this. Kosmidis from pontians tried fending the player off and caught him with a elbow downs player then got up and hooked him from behind causing all in brawl. Result should stand as it was th 80th min

I for one agree with Bomber - why the hell would a team 3-1 resort to that and start a brawl?

Very good question...Why?
If it was left on the pitch for the players and referee to sort out, then so be it....but the cause of the abandonment was the Pontian supporters invading the pitch!

you clearly have never attended a pontian home match before have ya pal? they have some real quality players who repeatedly let themselves and their club down with underhanded and behind the play antics. their forwards are good players but have the biggest inferiority complexes i've ever seen and feel the need to greet defenders with a loose elbow to get the job done. this is not the first time pontian officials/fans have run on the field and imo something needs to be done about it. lastly, if pontian want to lose this reputation that the minority have made for them then they must weed these guys out and piss them off. its div 1 for christ sake. this behaviour is unacceptable!

Well it sounds like the SAASL need to revamp their policies, not only are they derelict in their duties, there attitude towards resolving issues before they arise with official requests seems to go unchecked. They are lucky another brawl didn’t start. More to follow if the SAASL fail to do anything about it, I think their big money pool might have some legal action to loosen their purse if they don’t start listening to clubs. Having a minor sexually harassed is deplorable. More to follow if not resolved SAASL! I hope your listening coz a storm is coming, how you can compete with FFA/FFSA when you can’t update your results on time, you fail to follow through with your own policies and fail to give every club a hearing and take notice. WAKE UP!
If clubs can get the council of clubs going, maybe just maybe, something will be done, coz the normal letter and phone etc, Fall on deaf ears. Literally

Re: SUNDAY RESULTS 22 AUG
Pontian Player knew exactly what he was doing. He had the ball, Downs player up his clacker harassing him, Pontian player out of no where rips back his elbow into the Downs players face. Splits him open a ripper!!! Players from both sides run in and during this the Downs Player in question, not from behind as pointed out by some clueless people, but to his face give him one back. Should have been done and dusted then with both players being sent off. But no, the Pontian Captain, Big Centre back, #3?, charges in and starts to go again, then with both sets of 11 men right there and tempers raging, an all in brawl breaks out... Once again could have this could have been resolved and play may have stated again but some silly Pontian Fans jump the fence, run across the park to join in. This is when the Ref blows full time...
In regards as to why a Pontian Player, and i say only one player, not the team, decided to lash out, who the fuck knows as they were 3v1 up. The All in, in my mind, wasn't sparked by the elbow more so due to people afterwards not controlling themselves.

Re: SUNDAY RESULTS 22 AUG
The minute spectators step onto a park, the match should be abandoned.
I can think of two matches this season we were involved in where that happened this season. On one occasion the ref called the match (didn't even red card the players that were fighting!), only to be talked out of it by the two captains. On the other occasion, the ref didn't call the match, and sent off the opposition player that sparked the brawl.
We have had 'handbags' in other matches without spectators involved and have not had any issues with restarting matches.

West Beach V Ingle Farm
A cracking day on a nice but heavy pitch.
A's 2-5
I thought we played pretty well considering there were a few missing today. Minds were on the job and we knew West Beach would come out to attack to get the win. We took the lead after 10-15 mins but West Beach equalised with a back corner cross to see a header go in. Beach then had a similar chance which would of given them the lead but a fine save from our keeper kept the game level. From there we took control of the game and started opening them up well. We could of had a couple more but no team takes every chance so 5-2 was a good result
B's 2-1
We scored a late goal but in fairness Beach were the better team. We had enough of the ball, enough chances but we didn't take them or make Beach pay for thier mistakes. They made us pay for ours. Back to the drawing board for the B's. All the best to West Beach in their quest for the league.
C's 2-6
Considering we had only 9 players, no recognised GK it was a great effort. We were down 3-2 at one stage. Beach missed some chances which should of made them a lot further in front but some heroic goalkeeping in the 2nd half kept Farm in it
We conceeded the last 3 goals with about 15 mins to play as we just completely ran out of legs. Beach were certainly trying also. Thought the ref did a great job too considering he was a B team player who filled in at the last minute.
All the best to Beach in their quest to stay up. A great bunch of guys down there and I really would love to see them stay up in Div 1.

Re: SUNDAY RESULTS 22 AUG
I happen to bump into the ref of the game today. The incident occurred in play and the Pontians player had the ball. He clearly elbowed the Downs player behind him and was about to be sent off by the ref when the Downs player got up and punched him. This started the all in brawl in which 2 Pontian Supporters came across and joined in. No player from the Pontians Bench or any Downs supporters or bench players joined in. The ref said it got very heated and officials from both clubs came across and broke it up. He said he had no choice but to stop the game. The incident occurred around the 80 minute mark. I did ask him who he thought was at fault and who should get the result but he was inclined to say which it fair enough given he still had to write the match report to the league. At the point of the incident Pontians was winning 3-1.BANYA wrote:Pontian Player knew exactly what he was doing. I am not sure why people are pointing the finger at Pontians, it sounds like to me the Downs player provoked the all in brawl by retaliating. Throwing elbows is cheap by any player and should be a straight red. When they do occur things generally get heated but usually there is a free kick, the player is delt with by the ref and the game goes on. Such as would have happened with this incident if the Downs player kept his cool.

That is the dumbest thing you have ever said. Harassment, of any form (and in particular sexual) should not be tolerated in any form within our beautiful game. It should be an embarassment to any club if this occurs at your ground. On the pitch it is a mans sport but without our families who come along to support us our clubs would struggle to exist.nuggett69 wrote:Your obviously a woman or a soft c*(k this is a mans sport tempers get heated elbows fly claret spilt get over it?
