Using home officials as referees is clearly not working. The bloke doing it is on a hiding to nothing with many games getting out of control
simply because in most cases there is a total lack of respect from both sets of players.
The amatuer league situation with refereeing is a disgrace with many of them still doing Sunday division 1 games well past their use by date.
Are some of these guys still being assessed ? You can imagine the conversation after the game...
Ref's inspector : "Thought you struggled to keep up with the game today"
Ref's response : "I know but after all I am 75 !"

My criticism is directed towards the league who have been sitting on their pot of gold for years.
Maybe some of the money should be directed towards trying to get younger referees involved which I am sure
we would agree would be for the benefit of the competition.
As for me doing it....I am aware of my use by date and I am past it !

Thanks to all the Downs lads that helped out my brother today after his collision with the keeper early in the reserves game. Was a fair challenge on a 50/50 ball which you would see 2 or 3 times a game. Unfortunately he has broken both bones in his right leg just below the knee. He has broken the same leg twice now at the Downs... Once playing under 13's (i think) both bones on that occasion too!

Once again thanks to the Downs. Well in lads!

Personally I have no intention on doing any reffing. I think it is a well know understanding that when you travel to an away team, and you have one of their club doing the refereeing, you are not going to get the majority of the decisions. It is only natural to be biased towards your own club, intentional or not. I believe that a good majority of guys out their do a fairly good job, they will always make wrong decisions, as do the official refs at the top level.

The problem is that there are some of them who are just downright blatent cheats. A prime example of this was today at Maco's. After awarding a free kick for what was deemed to be a fair challenge, 25 yards out from our goal. He then proceeded to tell the players that if they challenged him he would change it to a penalty. He was also overheard, by a number of players, telling his own team that they should go down in the box after the kick is taken and he would give them a penalty, luckily the players had a bit more honor than that and played fairly.

He booked and sent off players for challenging his decisions, all time calling them effing this and that, and using plenty of profanity. He even booked a player who ran past two defenders, to be crashed to the floor from behind. Even though the two defenders were on top of him, he apparently dived.

I don't believe in cheating, and would rather lose fairly than win by cheating. As a keeper I have on plenty of occaisions fairly informed the ref if he has signalled a wrong decision my way, and I know it should be the other way, sometimes to the distaste of my own team, but I will not cheat. As I stated before I would not be a ref, but when you have players from the opposing team apologising for the standard of the ref, it signals that there is a problem with him.

So would I ref? No way.
Do I think that the ref from Maco's was a disgrace to the game, the uniform he wore, and the club he represents? Yes.
Do I think anything will change for the better? No.
Do I look forward to playing next season and have him ref a game I am in? You better believe it.

andy your brother must be hard as nails mate - because when he went down and stayed down, i thought he only had a minor injury... I've broken my leg twice before as well and I can tell you the pain is something else, but there wasn't much of a scream or anything from him today...

Hope to see him back next season..

Im not going to comment specifically on Macedonia or the incidents people say happened because ive never played them however, I think alot of clubs need to get the fuck over club refs and 'cheating'. These days it seems every 50/50 call the homeside gets constitutes cheating. This is my 5th year involved in the saasl (short i know) but in that time i can seriously not remember a single away game where I genuinely thought the home ref was being biased against us.

A big problem is people forget the refs arent professionals either. They make mistakes. It doesn't mean they cheat.

Another ugly thing I've noticed is that people (ie - you northern lot) always tend to rag on the club refs of ethnic clubs - Macedonia, Bosna, Budapest, Croatia etc.

Raptors 0 - 0 East
A tale of two halves, Raptors with the first dominating possession but not really threatening. East in the second with many many chances but no one finshing and the ball just not bouncing our way today.

Reserves ISC 2 - 1 East
Raptors some how came away with the result today as they were dominated by a better side. East just once again didnt finish their chances and failed to create as many as they should with a poor final ball killing them.

thanxs for the unbiased report.... :clown: :clown: :clown: :clown:

Kitchimo

Raptors should have wrapped up the game with about 15 to go when they rounded the keeper but somehow managed to miss. Neither keeper had to really make a save. Both sides hit the same post in opposite halves with headers from set pieces.
thats better!!!!.

How is that biased? I said we both had chances in the game and periods of dominance. Wow you had one CLEAR chance which your shite striker missed. We had many more chances created in the second half than what you guys did... Concentrate on staying up buddy... AGAIN

Fulham V Ingle Farm

A big test for all 3 of our teams today on a heavy but not to bad Fulham pitch.

3-5
Three times the Farm went a goal down and three times we equalised. It was a really entertaining game to watch with both teams forward lines constantly pulling the opposing defenses apart to create opportunities and shots on goal. It was end to end stuff with a great amount of skill. When we went down 3-2 I thought that it might of been game over for us but we pulled together to get a great result.

0-3
Tight contest in the first half with Fulham having a couple of chances and Farm creating enough chances to score more than 1 in the first half but couldn't convert. Fulham pressured Farm a lot in the first half but Farm scored early in the second and started to open the game up for our guys and looked pretty comfortable after that. Ref did a good job although he didn't have too much to call.

1-1
We played about 30 mins with only 10 players due to injuries, players not showing up or been late. Fulham were very good and opened up the midfield really well. They have a lot of quality in their midfield and dragged me all over the park and got me out of position many times. They couldn't quite get the last ball through to their striker today and our defense played really, really well. We scored a somewhat fortunate goal and could of gone two up but our own player stopped the ball on the goal line  Fulham leveled the game with what was an off side goal but they deserved at least one during the game anyway and would of scored again if it was disallowed. Great work from our guys today as we had 2 who played injuried and had 3 of us who had played less than 3 games this year.

ATT: NUGGET
You want me to tee off on someone well here I go. I hate having a go at referee's but this one was horrible from before the kick off.
At the start of the game, he tells me kick off is at 11:15am and I tell him that its 11:30am. We had only 7 warming up to start with and said if we don't have a full team by kick off time we have to forfeit. I said no we don't 7 is the minimum and he said that I was wrong and that he is a Federation referee and the Federation don't allow it. I said that FIFA and the SAASL do allow it. A few of his calls were inconsistent but nothing terrible, although maybe slightly against us when the Fulham players appealed but that's life. He then went to play 45 mins and I said no, C's only play 40 mins. "Thats not what I've been told" I ask are you a SAASL club ref because if you were you would know that C's play only 40 mins. Early in the second half I get booked for throwing my hands up in the air when I didn't get a penalty (probably wasn't there and Steve Gregan told me that lol) We then had a clear penalty turned down (Steve Gregan told me that also) and one of the Fulham guys approached our player who was fouled and called him a cheat. He approached our player and I grabbed him and stopped him. The referee then accuses me of calling him a cheat and says that the Fulham player is allowed to confront our player who said something to him. The player was my brother and if you know my brother you would know that he speaks about 50 words a day, he is a very quiet bloke. From there the referee then booked another couple of our players, sent one guy off after the match and lost control of a game that didn't have one bad challenge and had most guys from opposing teams having a laugh and enjoying the game. I asked him at the end of the game for his SAASL Club referee card as that has to go on the team sheet which he told me he would go get. He then tells our team manager that he doesn't have one. I say well put your Federation referee number on there, he didn't have one of those either. So during the course of the day, he booked me for not saying anything too him, told me that we would have to forfeit if we didn't have 11 players because I don't think he wanted to play and then lied about having his SAASL referee card. We don't expect brilliant referee's because it is C's but we want to be able to enjoy a game and not worry about the small things, rather the big things. No problem with the result, if anything Fulham were unlucky as they played a lot better than we could ever try to play, but that ref made it very hard to enjoy a social game of football on a Sunday morning. There, I've had my rant and I hope you enjoyed it Nugget and Marooned

A big thanks to Lawrie, Bigpond and all the Fulham guys for their hospitality during the day and at the end. We have a lot of time and respect for the guys there and hope they can survive the season.

So does that not say something about those particular clubs when its constantly repeated every weekend? It's not those clubs at fault 100%, as mentioned before the saasl need to pull their head in as well.

Sad thing is every year its the same old story, nothing ever changes. This sort of stuff will go on and on forever.

Massive win for Savoy. Well done boys.
After Vista scored two goals within 4 mins it looked to be a long day for savoy but to their credit they clawed back into the game winning 4-2 and were unlucky not to have a couple more after a blatant handball inside the box was not given by the referee. Vista were also unlucky hitting the post with about 10 mins to go. A very enjoyable game to watch, well done to Savoy. Hopefully this can give the team a boost to try help stay outside the relegation zone.

Jaywalking well put, especially as you didnt mention the blatantly offisde goal Fulham scored for the equaliser, and the fact the ref over-ruled the linesman despirt being 50+ meters away from the play.

Please don't try and use the 'racist card", the large majority of clubs who play in the Amateur leagues are "ethnic', in fact we wouldn't have an Amateur League without them. Personally I thought the guy who refereed us at Macedonia was ok (and put that in my post) all other Reserve refs (in Division 2 Sundays) have been quite good this year - or at least unbiased and we have lost a few games away.

There is a huge difference between making the odd mistake - being a little bit biased and blatant cheating from start to finish - The Bosnian Ref cheated from start to finish and everyone there knew it

Was informed at half time of the reserves game about the damage. Even tho it was a 50/50 challenge i still feel terrible. Hope he is doing ok and is on the mend quickly
