Southern Knights ( 2 ) Salisbury Inter ( 3 )...with pics

Southern Knights ( 2 ) Salisbury Inter ( 3 )
David Mooney, Lyndon Parry

Link to all Southern Knights v Salisbury Inter photos

Salisbury Inter pushed Knights hard all day and were deserving winners in a strongly contested game of football.
I am usually one to be quite defensive of referees but today's example was not deserving of a game at this level
and led to much of the frustration and lapses in temperament for the home team.

Image Image
The game opened up with end to end football ......Torsten Rutter, flanked by David Mooney push forward.

Image
Knights drew first blood when David Mooney finished off a good attacking move.

Image
Inter's Victor looked dangerous and nippy all day causing many headaches for Knights.

Image Image
Inter Coach Joe McGregor looks on as a lapse in concentration in Knights defence presents Inter with an equaliser.

Image
Minutes later Inter grab the lead when a long range Steve McGregor shot (I think) hits the cross-bar and bounces behid the goal line.

Image Image

ImageImage
When questioned about whether Inter's Victor wearing a long sleeve white undershirt (the same colour as Knights strip) was within the "laws of the game"
the referee replied..."It's not Manchester United..." Yet some referees are strict about skins or leggings being the same colour as the shorts...?????

Southern Knights ( 2 ) Salisbury Inter ( 3 )
Leigh Harrison, Paul Thompson

The Reserve game was both entertaining and frustrating to watch with patches of good football mixed with simple errors.
Knights probably should have walked away with all points but all credit to Inter for making the most of their opportunities.

Save of the day as Inter's Rkeeper tips a goal-bound shot over the bar !

Leigh Harrison runs back after getting a goal back for Knights and Paul Thompson converts from the penalty spot to make it 2-3.

How many of the Knights players were wearing long sleeve tops swanny?
I doubt any were and if not were is the issue?
sounds like a complaint from a team that is clutching for straws after a defeat

Training attendance is always an issue is amateur leagues but we have to remember
that its amateur football at the end of the day and peoiple have jobs and family lives
to balance with their "hobby"

We had this ref a few years ago in the cup and he was bewildering to say the least and he answered some of our
questions with similar strange replies but the ref rarely loses a game for a team, we won the game btw.
The young boys said unto him....."go up baldhead, go up"......so he did, rose like a salmon and nodded the ball into the net......1 nil! :-)

Never implied the referee cost us the game.....just that he altered the mood and temperament of the game.
The shirt enquiry was made before the game started....mainly that his sleeves were the same colour as Knights...not really an issue, just a question.

I reckon the bright yellow boots and Agassi headband would have been more of a distraction!

I imagine Pat Ielasi is around about my age as I used to play against him ( and Tissy Simeoni) as a junior :(

Would really suprise me if he had, I had him down as a someone with gritty character who would tough it out !
However,....Torsten is off to South Africa for the World Cup for several weeks very soon.

carra - as swanny stated the ref didnt lose us the game ...the way we concede cheap goals is

but even if u ask the inter coach there were some comical decisions.. one player was booked for telling the ref he has been consistent . ignoring the linesman when flag up for the ball being out and bought back into play etc as i commented to the inter bench maybe my fluro vest wasnt bright enough

joe has got inter travelling well and young victor is an exciting player to watch

Have to jump to Chris Tertipis (the ref) defence re the "Manchester United" quip, sound slike commonsense to me.

Just play the game.

My point is somewhat illustrated in the image above....if the player's white sleeved arm were to come in contact with the ball in a congested goalmouth...
then it might be thought that a defensive player has handled the ball.....leading to a penalty...

Lucky he is off to the world cup but he still might not be playing even when he gets back as he may get 6 weeks for being sent off for kicking another player on the weekend.

he got sent off so the ref saw something...

All depends what he puts in his report but a kicking offence is a standard 6 week suspension.

If this is the case they would have to officially sign them back up before they go to the World Cup- otherwise they would miss the deadline.

Sorry to say but the ref did not see any of what happened. He gave him the red from what the inter players had said and also the inter linesman. Not many players witnessed the incident. Dont know how torsten can get six weeks when the ball was across the other side of the park and the ref didn't see it??

You still have an obsession with the Knights!!!!!

As already stated Torsten has gone back to Ingle Farm and all at Knights wish him well and understand why he left

Also credit to Inter for not blowing what was a minor incident up

My understanding is Torsten got 1 week - whilst he won't be playing for us anyway it doesn't matter, it annoys me when people who weren't even there make shit up - Eastie 10 was pretty much on the money Bigpond was just fishing

WTF - the ref sent him off from what the Inter players and Inter linesman said???

If it is the Inter linesman from last year he is the biggest cheat going around.

And not fishing at all Knight7 - I got my info from a good source and he was probably on the money but the ref didn't see it obviously.

In my opinion then he should not have been sent off - how can you go by what the opposition says - of course they r going to say anything to get him sent off..
