Stay Safe in South Africa
For all you guys and gals heading to South Africa for the World Cup, enjoy the trip but please stay safe.
South Africa has over 50 murders a day on average, and that is the ones they know of. Muggings, bashings and robberies are as common as hot as hot days in Australia. Scary statistics to think about but fact. It is certainly a beautiful country but not a safe place. Don't be fooled that you will be safe to walk down the street drunk and alone, they shoot to kill then rob you there. Don't think because you are in a group you are safe, if one of your mates is shot, would you stand and fight or run, I just hope you don't have to find out. I lived there 28 years of my life before I was lucky enough to come to Australia 3 years ago. South Africa is dear to my heart but not a safe country anymore.
Enjoy the World Cup and stay safe.

I heard from friends (who aren't racist twats) who are going that they have been advised that if there is a roadblock between towns, DO NOT stop. It could be an ambush.
Anybody heard anything similar?

I take that as an insult. Explain to me why this is racist. You obviously have no idea what life is like over there. What I have stated is a fact of life for "anyone" who lives in South Africa today, color excluded.Loppermann wrote:racist twat, troll somewhere elsegreenandgoldarmy wrote:For all you guys and gals heading to South Africa for the World Cup, enjoy the trip but please stay safe.

Conveniently you failed to mention this.

There was also another good article that put the 50 a murders a day into perspective and pointed out that the vast majority of these incidents were in the townships where few if any World Cup fans will be venturing (unfortunately can't find the link). That's not say that there aren't serious security issues in South Africa that visiting fans need to be aware of and I imagine most of them would already know that.

the undertones of your post are along the lines of "there's black people running around killing every white person they can get their hands on; and I, as a white person, am glad to have escaped to a country that has thankfully repressed it's black people. Re: Stay Safe in South Africa
Greenandgoldarmys post was in no way racist, coming from someone who has lived in the country he is warning all the people going to be aware of their surroundings. I am not going to the world cup but im sure people who are will be glad to read this....

If the post was supposedly showing genuine concern then it would have put the 50 murders a day into the proper context.

Exactly - point being anywhere can be declared "unsafe" judging by stats, but common sense prevails whenever travelling abroad.
