Southern Knights opened season 2010 with some exciting attacking football today as several players made their "official" debuts in Knights colours....Torsten Rutter and Graham Elrick (from Ingle Farm), Paul Martin (formerly with Port Lion), Juliano Campos (from Brazil) and substitutes Adrian Hobbs ( Blaenllechau Bluebirds ) and Brayden Leske (?)..
On the minus side Knights were without Sandy Neary (injured), Andre Rickers (injured) and Sott Bradley (susp).




The day began with a minutes silence (presumably for someone associated with Macedonia).


Southern Knights 2010 Club Captain Ben Jones and 2009 joint Division 2 Player of the year David Mooney both made determined starts to 2010.


Matt Daughtry troubled the Macedonia defence in the opening 10 minutes.


Keeping Torsten Rutter at bay ,however a short while later Macedonian to line up a wall.


Steve Maguire puts Knights in front 0-1 with a sweetly timed free kick.


Brief celebrations for Knights.


Within seconds Macedonia broke through and levelled the game at 1-1.


Matt Daughtrey re-establishes the lead at 1-2 to Knights.




Juliano Campos gets a good touch on a Macedonian attempt.


Macedonia pushed forward seeking an equaliser.


A Knights player is upended in the penalty area and a penalty ensues....Matt Harrison placed the ball ready hoping to extend Knights lead.......


Macedonia's keeper picks the right side and makes a good save.


Jubilation as Macedonia level the game at 2-2 from a break away run.


Matt Daughtry goes close but Macedonia clear.


Macedonia's keeper is powerless to prevent Matt Daughtry's second goal, 2-3 to Knights.












Macedonia came out with an initial burst of energy in the second half.




Lyndon "Tom Hanks" Parry recently returned from shooting "Castaway" looks at home on the beach in the centre of Macedonia's ground as he chases after "Wilson".




2-4 to the Knights.








Torsten Rutter adds his first Knights league goal to stretch the lead to 2-5.




Juliano Campos make a few crucial saves to maintain Knights lead.

Thanks to Macedonia for their Hospitality was greatly appreciated.Good first game of the season but we are taking nothing for granted. Number 7 for Macedonia was a class act, hard to contain. Also thought the Referee for Reserves game was quite good, have had far worse

More of a sandpit to be honest sand was ankle deep in parts.

You'd want to try and keep well away from the cricket pitch. Couple of our players from our B team said they noticed glass in the sand during their game.

yes it was good to finally meet the man behind the camera that has taken many a photo. shame there were more pics than id like of the ball in the back of the net but hopefully next time will be different. be good to have a beer after the game with ya when we make the hike down south. gd luck for your boys for the rest of the year!

He actually had a badge on his chest which stated "for fancy dress only not official attire' so we all knew

On a serious note he was Referee for Reserve game we all knew he wasn't official but wasn't bad

I think its good if Reserve Refs look official - I will certainly be wearing my outfit when we play Raptors

Was chatting with Brayden Leske at training tonight......turns out he is a son of Harry Leske who I used to playe against as a Junior 40 years ago (Harry played for Elizabeth Grove and I played for the Downs....he was selected for a few representative sides and I think, went on to play at Elizabeth City).
