Apparently Sydney Utd will meet South Melbs in a match sponsored by Vodafone...it's great to see but the likes of Adelaide City and Brisbane Strikers really should be involved in this comp as well- ie. determine the best local club side in the nation...

its cos Vodafone are naming sponsors of the NSWPL and the VPL.
(they also naming sponsors of the WA league).

Maybe the FFSA should be looking there for sponsorship.

If that happens, perhaps a 4 team mini-tournament wouldnt be out of the question....Vodafone Australia Cup, something like that.

City v South Melb final at Hindmarsh.......bring back some memories!!

i know this will never happen, but jjjuuuuuuussssttttt imagine......

this could be the 2nd tier league in australia (div1 for example)... could consist of:

1. south melbourne
2. heidelberg
3. marconi
4. sydney utd
5. adelaide city
6. brisbane strikers
7. canberra
8. wollongong

1 team to get promoted at the end of each season to the A League, 1 team to get relegated to this....

then we can say we have a true competition in australia just like most other leagues around the world!!! ohhh that would be wild.. just imagine... oohhh that way everyones happy!!! the hard work of the ethnics in the 20th century does not go to waste as their clubs are still alive, well most anyway... ok im getting all excited for nothing...

think of the sponsorship and other opportunities this creates.... mmm

or even if the a-league adds 2 more teams, to make it a 10 team comp, with the 2nd tier league an 8 team comp.

laugh all u want, but i think the way football has taken off in oz, this is not impossible in about a 10-20 year timespan. even earlier!!!

Arxidi... have you totally missed the whole reason the old NSL failed? why no one "new" to football wanted to go?

I like the ethnic battles as much as anyone but we were never going to win any new football followers with that sort of "division" (one word meaning to things, lol)

I agree with the idea of a second division but... it would have to consist of

Canberra
Hobart
Darwin
Northern Queensland
1 team form Victoria
1 team from NSW (Metro Sydney)
1 team from Singapore
1 team consiting of the Island nations.

but y include a team from the islands and u can also include nz

we are part of the asian conf now....

if they decide to merge the asian and ocenia group add one more team to the world cup then yeah ....

if these teams were in it they would not draw any crowds.. hopefully this idea can come into play in about 10 years though.. lets just hope the game keeps growing from now til then

if crowds keep growing and growing....and within 10 years we can get regular 15-20 thousand attendances.....then a second league would be a great idea...

But on the Vodafone cup....it would be a great idea for the league winners from WA, SA, Vic, NSW and QLD to all have a competition...see who is the best league team in the country.....would be an interesting competition
