Agreed - classic example of that was the penalty given away by Scott Jamieson the other week. It was a clear penalty under the rules of the game but even Robbie Slater was questioning it on FoxSports.

Some of the rules have changed and it catches us all out at times.

i've read the LOTG - cracking read!

Here's one for you: cup game, extra time, player gets sent off, goes to penalties, and therefore its 10 v 11, what happens next?

well if it gets to the 11th players taking a penalty, as subs cannot be used...penalty taker 1 goes again? or they miss a turn or something like that :P

If, at the end of the match and before kicks start to be taken from the
penalty mark, one team has a greater number of players than their
opponents, they must reduce their numbers to equate with that of
their opponents and the team captain must inform the referee of the
name and number of each player excluded

With the case of kickers this is true. If a keeper is injured during the shootout he may be substituted if his team has not used their allocated substitues.

chances are all 3 subs will be used though. keepers should have priority subs. So, only 3 onfield players are allowed to be subbed like usual and the keeper has an exception for a 4th sub if an injury were to occur. if u get me..

Disagree. A keeper is a player like any other. This is why I hate Carlisle and the jimmy glass affair.

First Yellow Card - you are correct.

Second one, two players are running along the line when one tries to clear the ball out for a throw in, except the linesman, who's been keeping up with play, accidentally gets hit with the ball, knocking it back into play. The ball hasnt completely crossed the line before it struck the linesman. The attacking team play on to score. What happens next?

Goal is awarded....

Officials are neutral "objects" on the field. Just like, If the ball hits a referee and goes in the goals, a goal is still awarded.

Correct both of you, yet it was interesting to see how many commentators didnt know the rules when they misquoted that an ouside interferrence was anything other than the 22 players and the referee. no mention was made anywhere i read about the assistants from any jounalist/commentator.

got a lot of airtime after beachball-gate.

p.s. i've seen both the scenarios i mentioned happen in the last season in local football...

The law says that interference by an outside interference is a restart by a drop ball at the point where the interference occurred. Technically, the referee also has the right to abandon the match if objects are thrown on to the pitch. What is an outside interference is open to interpretation (ie. snow, rain, wind???). I download the BBC's Match Of The Day every week and they showed the plight of the beach ball. It had been thrown (punched) into the ground and placed inside the Liverpool goal seemingly out of harms way. The footage from behind the goal showed the wind had blown it out of the goal only seconds before the goal occurred.

I'm a Liverpool fan but at the end of the day it was a 'pool fan who sent the offending ball into the playing area and on the day Liverpool played like shite so Liverpool can't really complain. The Sunderland manager also said in the post match interview that he didn't know the rules regarding such an outside interference which comes back to my original post... a lot of players and managers don't know the laws of the game.

At the end of the day I'd rather see a goal like that stand than one in the France v Ireland match a couple of weeks ago.

They should be, but occasionally you do see them draped in the home teams colors which they shouldn't be.
