Re: Game of the Month???
For my two bobs worth I have been involved with both a state league netball team and at a state league football team, coaching at both.
Firstly basketball for women. Although shown on some tv (ABC. I think this is not big in ratings etc) the womens game were / are played at a different venue to the mens to try and promote the womens game this may change now that the national league is reinventing themselves. Baskettball is struggling yet 10 / 15 years a go it was the next best thing since slice bread. Both for women and men. Time will tell if the national leagues survive.
Netball, State league teams get minimal support for their games. The clubs could not stand up for themselves if their income was from the game takings. However the National league is a winner and especially the transtasman cup. This is gettign bigger and bigger.
As other people have said for the womens soccer / football to progress it is one step at a time and to help this the womens A League should be on before the mens league. Succss also breeds success. SBS Showing the womens world cup will ensure the game gains a higher profile. THe mens team making the world cup helps. At local levels the crowds will always be on the smallish sides but to help this scheduling should be considered. As I have said in other topics the no reserves has not helped promote the game and the scheduling this season of div one, two three etc needs to be tinkered with.
In my opinion and this is my opinion only Prems and Div 1 should be at 3.00pm. When the draw is made for the prems, that clubs next highest team should then be drawn to play at 1.00pm. EG Metro prems play Cumby prems. If both of these teams have a div 2 team then their div two teams should play at 1.00pm. This would help to attack / keep supporters at games.
It would also be good to try and coordinate the 13's / 15's / 17's etc just like the men do. So if prems Metro are at home then all of their teams which can play on the same day are at home. Therefore maximising the competition and the schedulling to promote your club. I know this would be hard but has this idea been put up? Have teh FFSA thought about this?
I also understand that teams / divisions etc change and that a times the leagues are revamped however this is a startign point to help promote the game?
Just a couple of thoughts.

Re: Game of the Month???
Adelaide Pie. This is the type of submissions needed. 3 or 4 games at the one venue is a great idea, this is how it used to be. A long day for many club officials but wonderful social days/times as well.

Re: Game of the Month???
At the risk of being criticised by a forumites or two that I have re-submitted a similar topic, the issue of creating interest and support has been spoken/written about many time however a couple of clowns here have rubbished the comment or said that we should go and do it ourselves.
It’s a f’en simple solution but one some people don’t give a toss about because its too much work.
Create interest by creating carnivals once a month of 4 times in a season where there are concurrent games (for changeling and others it means games played at the same time) at different age groups. Combine underage and prems games alongside so you don’t have the situation where once the underage teams play they run home. A bit like the zones championship format. Playing curtain raisers is a good idea that was done a few years ago but should not happen always. Otherwise its only an exhibition sport. What should have happened is that you build on that exposure. This did not happen. Its not acceptable.
Its. a very simple concept. You cannot wait for the game to evolve. It won’t. It will only go down in support. Change the playing strips so the players don look like they are wearing their dads or brothers playing strip. The Sensations body hugging strip is fantastic.
Adelaide Pie is a wise person. Beaches has been around and seen the good the bad and the ugly. Both have a wealth of experience.
Our sport will always be high on participation but down on publicity and exposure stakes. P.S. it takes more than posters in a Westfield store.

Re: Game of the Month???
I take offence to you feeling as though you have to explain a meaning to me... was it really necessary to mention me by name?
explain the meaning, but keep me out of it. we may not always agree, but im not stupid. kthnx.
No one is rubbishing anything, just making comments that the topic has been done to death, and suprise suprise, nothing said on the forum has come into play because no one takes the initiative to pass it onto the ffsa or sawsa. thats all we've said.
As for the "concurrent games", i do think its a brilliant idea, though it wont increase anything. yeah so you'll have more people out at one time, but they're still only gonna be watching their daughters arent they? unless you play the prems earlier, like before some of the 15s or 17s games... i just think the issue with this idea is gonna be venue. as is the issue in many of the ideas that are tossed around.

Re: Game of the Month???
that comment wasn't necessary sad gal. not at all.
one thing that's been overlooked here is really that if you haven't noticed in netball and basketball, Australia is one of the best in the world. therefore, when watching those games, you're watchign some of the best players in the world
woman's soccer, our W - league, one of the best in the world? i think not. Australian's love watchign sports where we're one of the top ranked in the world. where we're watchign world class, top of the range teams, cricket, basketball, netball, etc.
so, sad gal, while nobody here, in case you missed the memo, is disagreeing with you, it's a little unfair to compare the two/three.
and yes, the topic has been done to death. however, on another note, some pretty good suggestions there, want to pass them into sawsa/ffsa for us?

Re: Game of the Month???
I think the moral here is simple; Don't knock the system unless you are prepared to do the job. (My comment: I don't get paid to do the job. The FFSA have well paid people and resources)
ecky and changeling really don't add anything to the discussion other than criticise people for making a statement. They don't come up with any useful ideas. So, ecky and changey come up with an idea other than slamming people as whingers. They only whinge becasue their are problems. Simple.

Re: Game of the Month???
so your knocking us, because we can admit there are problems with our sport, but we choose to stay positive about it? not just say its going under?
because we agree with what people say, but point out flaws, not always to criticise, but sometimes to push people to think of an improvement to an idea.
we dont just keep going on about the same idea.
or bringing up the same topic.
and i've shown its not hard to email ffsa/sawsa to get a response to an idea, or an issue. i've done something, because i care about the sport and dont like people slamming it.

Re: Game of the Month???
i'm sorry, must have missed the part where it said, 'must have a negative attitude about women's football to post on this forum'
we don't 'criticise people for making a statement' we don't like the consistent negative attitudes that come with those repeated statements.

Re: Game of the Month???
ecky and changeling (obviously mates) really add nothing to any of the arguments (robust debate) and spend time throwing stones and then criticising everyone. Naive? Young? Gullible or just stirrers?
Take time to read the message. Take time to read the posts from ppl like Adelaide Pie, beaches, The Beaut game, etc. They are people who have been around a while and can offer constructive discussion.
The question you two can ask yourselves is this "Is the game and its image or positions within the women’s sporting fraternity the best it can be?”
Unless you two have been posting over the years under different names, you really are late comers and don’t understand the lack of movement and progress associated with this sport. Over the years many people have made valid suggestions and are repeated ad nauseum so that the penny might drop.

Re: Game of the Month???
I spend some of my time as a panellist on the 5RPH tuesday morning football show, and we are doing our very, very best to promote the women's game as much as we can, however i'm limited in how many people I know or can contact. So if players/clubs/adminstrators involved in any level of the game want some air time for an interview, us to read out match reports, advertise club events or anything like that, please get in touch with me or the station and we'll put you on! You can e-mail me at alasdairrodgers@yahoo.com or call on 0432961653
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

Re: Game of the Month???
THANK YOU ORIGINAL UNKNOWN!
Maybe your method of going straight to the point will get the message across to them
Now, hopefully, this can be the last thing i have to say on this matter. Maybe until they bring it up again in another 12 months or so...
On another note, we also play for the sheer enjoyment of the sport. Not so we can sit around worrying about the public image of the sport.
We dont all play because we want to be well known in our state, or nation. Yes, we would like to see out sport have a higher public standing, have more spectators out etc etc. We are smart enough to see that, yes, you and some of the older forumites that have been around longer than myself or ecky have some good ideas. No body is disagreeing with that.
Perhaps a younger view is what you need to wake yourself up and see that over the years, nothing seems to have changed. Maybe its time to take a different approach, and to go straight to the source, rather than hope and dream that one day, whats said on this forum will come into action on its own.

Re: Game of the Month???
The RPH show is brilliant. Well done with limited resources however, the lack of content is why our game doesn't get much coverage. Media outlets will promote it if WE push the events/games/rivalries etc.
Re: Game of the Month???
I haven't heard of any coach or FFSA staff member who adheres to this forum and it's suggestions. Except maybe M. Barnett...
Therefore, email FFSA and then you should continue with this topic and discussion.
No point suggesting and waiting, be proactive, you might be surprised with the results!

A pessimist is never disappointed.
I don't just want to have my cake and eat it, I want to go back for cheesy biscuits and tiramisu.

i added the fact that a comparison to netball and basketball was unfair.
how was that not constructive discussion?
anyways:
i'm young, yes. naive? well, maybe. but at least i see that writing about it on this forum is going to do absolutely nothing for the good of the game.
gullible? how? i'm not disagreeing with what you're saying about the game, just the fact that all i've ever seen you (specifically to sad gal here) post, is negative comments. i'm sorry, but that gets on my nerves.
and well, i'm not doing this to stir.
oh, and i've read those messages. and, no, i didn't disagree with them.
all i'm asking you to do sad gal is email sawsa/ffsa with your suggestions.
for myself, no, i actually don't have any suggestions that i think would work. i can admit that
but you, might actually have some that could work.
the suggestions that have been posted on here have been good
i've never disagreed with that
the email address is up there. go ahead. take some initiative and actually do something for the sport instead of just critising it on a forum
Re: Game of the Month???
Been there and tried to do that. As I said in a round a bout way, ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. Simple.
Not my job anymore. When I was at club level, I establsihed a relationsip/contact with media outlets and was able to get stuff in the Advertiser and Messenger. They even came and took photos.
