Re: Let IT "BEGIN"
such better preperation by going through Asia. The team has had alot of time to gel and play in alot of high pressure situations rather than one 2 leg tie against a quality side. All depends on the group we draw but hopefully we can progress past the group stage again in South Africa

Re: Let IT "BEGIN"
THE hottest ticket in town? Brrrr. Kewell? Try bloody cold.
Too late on a work and school night and foggy-breath cold, fans swamped the MCG regardless.
And if the match didn't matter, with the Socceroos and Japan already World Cup starters, a weeknight giggle game played on Tokyo TV time was all the excuse required.
That and the two magic words: World Cup.
From two hours before the 8.20pm kick-off, fans streamed across Yarra Park for a sniff of a dream.
For some it was South Africa next year, but others looked nine years ahead in hope to a World Cup down under.
And with Sydney cocky enough to think it owns any future final, the message from Melbourne was undeniable.
For a World Cup qualifier in name only, the crowd made a mockery of Sydney's paltry 39,540 last week at a qualifier that counted.
In the bitter cold our great ground became a pressure cooker.
In blue, Japanese fans tried to lay siege to the Southern Stand's lower reaches, not too far from the old Bay 13.
With plastic trumpets and white bunnies face-painted on, they ditched sushi for pies in a bid to keep warm.
A few wore flu masks but seemed destined to wake up with a cold at least.
The concourse outside the ground smelt of pies, chips and Vicks.
The mercury dropped to single digits well before the start.
Merchandise booths did a fast trade in yellow Socceroos beanies - $20 and worth every cent.
With an awkward gap between knock off time and kick off time, some supporters tried warming up in nearby bars.
Cam MacDonald from Niddrie, and a couple of willing accomplices, hopped into the anti-freeze at Federation Square.
"A couple warmer-uppers and they didn't even warm us up," he grimaced as he walked to the gates.
"We haven't given up," he added hopefully.
"What we need is about four goals, or 40 more beers. Both would be good."
Nicky McManus came from Bunbury, WA, having booked the tickets when the rubber was still live.
"We went to the Sydney match as well," she said as kids Luke and Katie threatened to turn Japanese blue.
"Oh well, it's cold," Ms McManus shrugged, just happy to be at the home of sport.
Luke, though, was still to be convinced.
"Four layers, and I'm still cold," he shiverred.
Others, though, knew exactly how hot the hallowed turf always gets. They knew it was a given.
Mark Lewis, partner Raelene and kids Stevie and Ricky came down from Newcastle.
"We went to the Cup in 2006 in Germany and went to Sydney," Mr Lewis said.
"It doesn't matter if this game's a dead rubber. We wanted to jump in front of a 90,000 crowd.
"You lot are a lot rowdier than up there.
"Yeah, this would have to be the Number One spot for a final, for sure. It's more of a sporting city."

South Africa: here we come!
Congratulations to the Qantas Socceroos on their succesful World Cup Qualifying Campaign. Although Australia had already qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, after drawing with Qatar in Doha, the 2.1 win against Japan on Wednesday night means Australia has finished top of the group.
8 games, 6 wins, 2 draws, 12 goals for, 1 goal against and we are bound for South Africa .
Congratulations!

Re: Let IT "BEGIN" World Cup 2010
I will laugh if NZ qualify by winning their playoff against the 5th place asian team. After all our years of trying, now moving to and qualifying through asia, to see the oceania champion get through would be great.
