Australian Football Awards – celebrating our game!
There has been a lot of celebrating in football land of late…congratulations also to the winners of the inaugural Australian Football Awards!

Held Thursday night in Sydney at the Hilton Hotel, the black tie event recognised the outstanding efforts of the entire football family – from players at a professional and non professional level through to volunteers, coaches and referees.

And the winners are…

Community Service Award - Glenn Thompson
For more than a decade, Glenn Thompson has been a proud supporter of football, playing an instrumental role in promoting the game to the Indigenous population of Borroloola in the Northern Territory. Glenn’s team, the Borroloola Cyclones, placed fifth place at the recent 2009 Arafura Games and will also participate in the Indigenous Football Festival in Townsville next month.

Player of the Year - Men
Mark Schwarzer - Fulham FC/Australia
Mark has had an outstanding season both for his club, conceding just 34 goals and keeping 15 clean sheets for Fulham, and also his country playing in all 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifying matches. He is the longest serving Australian senior men’s team player of all time and fifth highest in number of appearances.

Player of the Year - Women
Joanne Peters - Newcastle Jets/Australia
