The beautiful game we know as women's soccer, "Fastest growing women's sport in the world" has a serious identity crisis and people who are not batting for it.

Why? When something such as our sport is out of mind and out of there is a huge risk that people will see it as a waste of money and hence the budget cuts!!!!

So, the fact that we have an image and publicity issue here, who is to blame? The players. The Clubs. SASI, FFSA (SAWSA). The Media? Or is it the sum of all 5 combined.

We saw this coming years ago. There have been mutterings around this forum and at clubs that things aren’t right and that S.A. was not capitalising on the opportunity to put women’s soccer where it belongs. What a product I heard from people in the know and at the highest peak of the sport. They spent a lot of time basking in their own glory and did not see it falling apart. The sport as we know it has been regulated and strangled by parochial stubbornness. “Lets look after our own patch today and not worry about the future”!!!

Well I am sad to say, as another enlightened forumites has pointed out, women’s soccer has gone back to bad days and all the hard work our players and clubs has done has gone to waste.

The budget cut represents what our sport means to the wider community.
