Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
if there is no more w league, that would be total bullsh*t!
its like, lets give the girls something to look forward to, something to work towards, and then take away their funding and rip it all out from underneath them!

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
yeah i tend to agree...
but until we hear otherwise, i for one plan to remain positive that they're not gonna kill our W league.

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
Sorry to have read about the funding cuts etc hwoever, in other recent postings I think the issue of this women's sport has been thrashed. Its alsO been debated over the last few years howver (read this slowly girls).
I TOLD YOU THAT THE SPORT WAS BEING RUINED AND IS GOING TO GO DOWN THE DRAIN. SAD BUT TRUE. IT HAPPENED WITH THE W-LEAGUE AND EVERYTHING ELSE. OUTSIDE YOUR WORLD, WOMEN'S SOCCER IS LACKING VISIBILITY AND EXPOSURE. People won't be bothered if you guys feel the funding cuts.
WAKE UP BECAUSE ITS HAPPENING NOW AND WILL TAKE YEARS TO FIX UP. IF IT EVER WILL. Its a cancer that's been festering.
i MAY BE A D Head But I'm not wrong often.

Budget Backflip: Women's Soccer Saved
by Patrick Orr; political correspondant 13/05/09
The proposed funding cuts of up to $90 million from women's soccer have been scrapped amidst pressure from lobby groups. The reduction of government funding to the fastest growing participation sport in the country was met with hostility from players and fans alike.
As soon as only a few hours after the budget speech had been delivered, female footballers all over the country expressed their outrage.
"why can't they take the funding from men's soccer?" one frustrated Adelaide girl asked.
The irrate responses even went as far as condemning the current government, calling for a female Prime Minister for change in our society. Thankfully, the protesters ruled out Julia Gillard as a potential PM candidate.
The influx of protests eventually became too much for the government, who decided to alter the budget to eliminate any reductions to the funding for women's soccer. It is believed that the government will take an additional $45 million from both Basketball and Cricket, to make up for the lost revenue.
Budget spokesperson Caroline McGrady seemed deflated when she announced the changes.
"It is obvious, based on the sheer volume of complaints recieved, mainly from a South Australian based website, that we have no buisness taking money from this vastly supported sport."
"We can understand the anger, and, we ourselves see the error of our ways"
"I'm not too sure why they didn't just take the money from women's basketball and cricket in the first place. It is obvious no one cares about these particular sports.

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
this is were the FFSA has to grow some balls and change back the womans league to how it was before, reserves etc or the game will lose more and more players how negative has the reaction been to this change , you have reserves teams playing the old div 2 teams and belting them, as i said before to many ppl before with hidden agendas are going to kill our great game which was a growing and healthy competition WAKE UP YOU WANKAS

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
It’s a joke that women's netball and basketball have more coverage then women's soccer. Most sh-it as-s sports.
I don’t know what they (FFSA) were thinking they would get out from having no reserves either.
Women's soccer is f'd now isnt it.

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
no way that article is real. People do care about other womens sports, basketball especially with all the attention and success the Opals have. I'm pretty sure there would be just as much outrage about the funding cuts in basketball circles as there is on this forum.

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
Reality check people!
Budget cuts to non-essential services were inevitable, there is only so much pie to go around... And as it stands this country is going to eat more pie than what it can actually afford to in an effort to reduce the effects of the global $$$ crisis. (Going into budget deficit ringing any bells???)
To pay for things that are essential to keep Aussie workers in their jobs and reduce the number of jobs lost the Government has to get the money from somewhere.
I would much rather see Sport, whether it be womens, mens or whatever lose funding if it means 1 million people keep their jobs through increased funding to building and infrastructure projects.
If you were going to lose your home, would you use your last bit of money to pay your mortgage or buy a new pair of soccer boots??? Feed your kids or get foxtel...?
Its about needs versus wants, and while its disappointing now, i'm sure in the future, when we are back in a position as a country to be able to afford it, women's sport will again get the funding it deserves.

Re: Federal Budget & Womens Football
i think, fair enough.
men's games gets the crowds out.
and with the economy going the way it is, anything that will promote jobs, ie, infrastructure, will do the country good.
aaaand, sure its not great for the womens game, but i think that we have very little priority in relation to everything else.
