Trial game and the use of over age players?

Post by adelaidepie »

Hey all,

Just wanted to ask for people's opinion on the following subject matter.

I was told about an incident a couple of weeks a go in a trial game and wanted to throw the question out to you all for comment etc.

I will try and relay the details as accurately as possible without using clubs names but then pose some questions.

An under 15 game is alleged to have taken place between a southern and western team. It is alleged that one of the teams for some reason used their coach, a senior female to play, to play in goal for them. Now, I know this is a friendly, but the information about the player being over age was denied by the team using the said player until I believe the truth came out after the game.

Now my questions, concerns are the following;

1. Is this a good example to be setting to your players and if this coach, coaches at a higher lever and this information gets out how will that affect the integrity of that coach?

2. If the ref was aware of the over age player did they do anything about it after the game like report it to the FFSA or not? They may not have been aware of the problem.

3. If, as I was informed the other team became aware of the alleged over age player did they report it to the FFSA and if not why? Although only a friendly, some issues could come out of this?

4. If this was reported to the FFSA are they investigating this or leaving it alone? If leaving it alone why?

5. If this story is true and I have clearly said I wasn't there so can not confirm 100%, my main concerns is if the over age player had accidentally hurt another what, if any insurance would there have been and what sort of complications could this have caused let alone the issue of credibility about playing.

I know this may seem trivial and there maybe gaps in the story but if true and only if true then I would suspect that the FFSA should at least seek some information about this game as this is a bad example for any coach to be setting in a friendly. Also if true maybe the FFSA should issue a mandatory card check on all of these age groups games.

Thank you

yes I heard about this as well...SF shouldve known better, she has been involved for a long time......and for a new club to do this is a worry, these shonky things dont help a new club at all , just gives them a bad name, this person should be reported to the FFSA and the official shouldve been told

It could be that the 'SF' in question thought to herself " hey, this is only a trial game, what does it matter- I'm a player short, so to give the other girls a game, I'll step in goals". At worst an ill-thought-out decision, reflecting immaturity and lack of judgement. I think the integrity of the game should be protected wherever and whenever it's being played. I hope it has been reported to the FFSA. Moreover, for 'SF's sake, someone older, wiser and more mature should have a word.

1. Definitely did occur at an u15c trial game AJ v SM. Interesting when one team SM played a player short thereby leaving players on bench to even up numbers on pitch and also interchanged field players through their goalie position as they didnt have a set keeper. So you have one team bearly able to clear its box with goal kicks and the other getting to half way line by using an adult. Guess if thats what it takes and how important a trial game is to you then so be it.

2. Not an official ref as far as I could see. Club member/amateur player ?

3. Not sure

4. ?

5. Presume insurance would still be ok, no different to training or even the annual parents v kids game.
