PHE 2-2 Raptors

Raptors had a handful of chances, PHE had a few more but couldn't put theirs away.

How good are the Reebok match balls??? Wish the Amatuer League could the ball situation right.

East 2 - 2 Raptors
Very scrappy game today with neither team really dominating. Both goals were clearly keeper errors.(particulary east-keeper dropped it at the strikers feet). I think that neither team really had the quality in the final pass to outdo the other team. The quality of Terry Smith shone through today. Well done to Childsy for taking himself off as it would have been easy to plonk himself up front and keep going.

Both teams will be looking to improve if they are going to get promoted....

PS - play Eoin at sweeper... although Joel did well, he will be a much better marker and Eoin is an out and out quality sweeper.... IMO that is....

A's - Modbury Vista 6 Munno Para 1

B's Modbury Vista 3 Munno Para 1 (i think)

Not a good start to the year for us today, but taking nothing away from Vista, i dont believe they were a five goal better team than us today.

we had a lapse of about 10 min were they put 4 away right at the start then the rest of the game was very even with both sides having oppotunities.

I think only two goals were scored from keeper errors today, the 1st conceded by PHE and the 1st conceded by Raptors. Raptors 2nd goal was scored from well taken free kick with an equally good header on the end of it, keeper really couldnt do too much about it. PHE second goal was scored from a very soft penalty for handball in the box, cant blame the keeper for that either!
I though Raptors were well on top in the 1st half and played some decent football on a woeful pitch, but coupled with the hot weather and being the 1st game of the season, I think a few many of the boys from both teams started to struggle to handle the conditions and the game got a bit messy. Good result for Raptors though to take a point from the former Div 1 side with still many quality players to come back into the side over the next few weeks, from my understanding I think PHE have a few out also so it will be interesting to see if both teams can power on from here.

I do believe there is a significant step up from Div 3 to 2. Like Div 2 to Div 1, most teams have a few real quality players in their side and if you lapse you can get punished in a space of 10 minutes, I think Pomtians and West Beach found that out in Div 1 last year.

Knights b's had a disappointing day. great pre season and looked to be a better year for the boys. If they keep their chin up im sure it wont be long till they secure a win...
As for the A's. Knights really dominated the first half. Vikings scored from a defensive error. Knights scored from a good corner to bring it back level. 1-1. Vikings played well in a lot of areas but their fitness would become a problem. But in saying that they scored with a clever toe poke 10 minutes from end. The knights didnt give up at this point even though both teams were running out off puff.. The knights from another corner equalised from the last kick off the game as the vikings keeper came out, but totally missed the ball.
Overall knights deserved a win but the vikings did put up a good fight in their first div 2 game for the season.

A's - Pontian 2-5 USC Lion
B's - Pontian 2-0 USC Lion

Good start for the A's going 4-0 up by halftime. Little sloppy in the second half and conceded early, 4-1. Hit back 10 minutes later, 5-1. Pontian came home strong and grabbed a 2nd consolation with a lucky deflected clearance well saved, but falling in the path of their striker 5-2. Few injury concerns and plenty of areas to improve on next week.

Very fast paced game, west beach are very quick, probably should have ended 3-3, but both teams missed some chances, Grove scored winner with about 5 to go. Both West Beach keepers are very good.

Grove 4-3 West Beach

A good game of soccer played by both sides. Beach started well scoring fairly early, and we were a bit surprised at how quick their players were. They moved the ball well, and at speed, and so we had to work a lot harder than the pre season games! Got back into the game with 2 quick goals, catching Beach out on the break. Second half, Grove managed to use the ball a lot better and created more chances and scored to make it 3-1. Beach pushed for goals, which left them open to the counter but they managed to score 2 goals in the space of about 4 minutes to make it 3-3. Grove scored with about 5 minutes to go from a sweet strike from just outside the box. A hard fought game on a hot day, and Beach will no doubt be pushing hard for promotion. A far better team than any we played in div 2 last year. They have some quality players in the midfield and i think they have a few players still to come back.

Take off the rose colured glasses, dominated the first half wtf? Fitness wasnt a problem, having to make 3 forced subs in the second half due to injuries in 15 minutes was more of an issue. Conceeding in the 93rd minute was costly and 2 points lost that we nearly had. The reserves was an easy victory 6-1, not a good sign for the Knights as depth is obviosuly thin.

I think your quite abit biased here, there was no point in the game that the knights dominated, if anything it was equal or if anything more in the favour of us!

Don't think the first goal was an defense error as the ball was played through to the scorer. IMO the ref was terrible I was hammered the whole game and hardly got a free, I've got the cuts, bruises and the swollen/inflamed muscles to prove it!

Btw- the first goal fir the knights should not been allowed as the knights player who scored had both his hands on my shoulders hampering me from even jumping to get the challenge in.

We have a whole new partnership up front with also a new attacking cm - as we said in the ride home, it's going to take a couple matches for us to gel!

Our fitness won't be a problem mate, the heat contributed to everyone, and we weren't flat-more like sore as hell.

If anything the Knights were lucky to get a point as in the second half the knights resorted to long shots and weren't very dangerous - we should of have killed the game off
