One hopes. Are club coaches allowed to be assistants on state squads?

If the girls want it bad enough they will make it work.

greavsie's_daughter i beleive one is Sue Tripodi who holds a Senior Licence, and also works at the FFSA.
I also heard around the traps that Wendy Carter will be helping out this year along with another two female coaches who have been involved with State Teams in the past.

In my opinion i think the two coaches are good for the game, and a new direction, this is no offence to those in the past, but come on the SA teams have finished poorly over the last 5 years, and lost to Tasmania or all states last year!

My sister is involved in state teams this year, and i can tell you she is very excited to be part of the new set up.

After all Richard Preston is a former Premier League coach who has coached girls before, and Vito Basile is a Football Australia employee who has worked with boys and girls at various clubs or a number of years.

This new direction could possibly see improved resultsa at Nationals over the next 3 years.

In 2008
U17's girls won their group, and lost the semi final 1-0 after extra time to the eventual winners.
They drew 1-1 with NSW (lost on penalties) in the 3rd/4th play-off
5 Players invited to National Camp.
U15's girls beat Tasmania.
U14's and U15's boys have performed very, very well.
Not sure where you got your info from.

AND, the National Championships are about talent recognition for the National teams, not about winning.

So from U12 to U17 the 2008 performances could hardly be called poor, can they?

The Friendship Games is a tournament for U13s yet we send our U14s (and they still can't win it).

Re Friendship Games - I think you will find it is U13 for boys and U14 for girls.
In 2007 our girls could have won (instead of finishing second) if not for rigidly complying with the instructions to give all girls equal time - I suspect that may have been the case in 2008 too?

That may be the case pvfc, but NSW and Victoria (Metro and Country) enter their U13 teams and they are the only other states that enter the girls so for me it is (or was) an U13 comp and SA sent an overage team.

One of my concerns regarding the state programs is that the girls' 'development programs' seem to be getting started so late this year. I have no doubt that the merger of SAWSA and FFSA has made the process more complicated. Does anybody know if the younger boys' teams got started any earlier? There have still been no announcements regarding the very young (U12/13) teams. I know these are often an afterthought, but there are many committed athletes, young though they are, waiting to get started.
