Looking the evolving and somewhat successful A-League and in particular its role in providing a clear pathway for emerging talent in Australia fro boys to pursue their National and International careers I would like to read your thoughts on the sasi and w-league set ups.
From my perspective, a competition of the calibre envisaged by the W-League supporters will provide players who are NOT part of an NTC and opportunity to play in a competition that will display their talents outside the constraints of an NTC comp ie WNSL. It broadens the scope from where players are identified and selected from.
SASI, it could be argued, develops the athleticism but I would argue that this set up does not develop a football player. Yes it has the infrastructure to partner the w-league ad its from this point that I see both working together.
What I would envisage is that the coach of the w-league and sasi would be someone contracted to do both but is contracted with the FFSA with performance criteria built in to their contract. Does there need to be a full time Womens football coach based at sasi when all you will need is access to the training and development facilities.
It would be cheaper and what funds are available, could be funnelled into to developing the game so that the w-league team here in SA has access to a deep and strong pool of players. That’s where the success will come from.
This is food for though however, I cannot for the life of me, understand why players outside of the NTC programs are NOT considered for national duty. Its at the detriment of our National teams for this to continue.
The W-League is a massive step forward.

Re: SASI vs W-League (room for both?)
that post was silly...
however i think sasi will end up being like the lads process in that it builds them up to potential professional players. i think the W league is a good wake up call to the NTC programme, showing off some players who are considered "has beens" etc.
i know if i were still playing i would rather play w-league than be in sasi any day!

Re: SASI vs W-League (room for both?)
Good discussion.
I think both could live side by side. Especially since sasi have a youth/young player policy. Disgarding the older players is pretty silly given their calibre.
In saying this, The W-League should not become an offshoot of sasi and must always be independent because it should provide everyone a chance to play at a high level.
