The root of Australia's problem is mostly geographical combined with competition with AFL.
Australia is so isolated from the rest of the world. It takes a lot to get other Nations or big name teams to visit.
Europe has a great advantage with so many footballing nations in close proximity, up and coming players can move fairly freely from country to country to make their mark. .
South America and Africa are somewhat the same.
What makes the Dutch way the best way of doing things ?
We've had 2 big coaches Venables and Hiddink and despite all their experience they made some poor decisions that had bearing on Australia not progressing further in the World Cup.
Hiddink should have closed the game down against Italy with 10 minutes to go to try and push the game to extra time.
Whilst Venables let the game slip away with a good lead.
Having said that, I don't think Arnold was up to it, it's a difficult job and a lot more will fail at it.
