That would be good, Arshavin and Paylychenkho with Bent backup. Midfield of Bentley-Jeans-Modric-Capel/Dos Santos

Tottenham can't afford Arshavin - Zenit

Zenit St Petersburg have claimed Tottenham are in the race to sign Andrei Arshavin but need to increase their valuation of the Russia international.

Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane have told Spurs they wish to leave White Hart Lane, to Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, and Arshavin would be seen as a replacement for the latter as a deep-lying striker.

'With Tottenham we have contacts,' said Zenit sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya. 'This English club is really interested in acquiring Andrei but, as I understand, 27 million Euros (£21.5 million) is too high a price for them.'

Berbatov and Keane would be expected to raise more than £40million between them, and Arshavin is valued by his club at more than half of that amount following his eye-catching Euro 2008.

Sarsaniya added: 'For Spurs it is unacceptable. Tottenham are ready to pay in the region of 20 million Euros (£15.9 million) for Arshavin.'

Arshavin stated earlier in the summer that Barcelona would be his preferred destination but a move to the Catalan giants has not materialised so far.

Bid accepted now apparantly and coming in for a medical. Bit of activity going to happen the next few days. Keane deal done pending Arse-shaving coming to us. Berbatov deal may be the same, pending another player. Levy doesn't want to be left in the same position we were when we had to bring in Rasiak at the last minute.

He realises after all of Fergs/Fat Spanish Waiter's posturing, we hold all the cards at the moment so the deals for Berbs/Keane will be done when we say they'll be done.

These players that say they want to leave or they are considering leaving are really putting themselves in the shite, Barry was booed all through Villa's pre-season game yesterday because he said he wanted to leave, he said that cause idiot rafa said that he wanted him, Liverpool aren't about to spend 18 on Keane then another 16ish on Barry, so one of those players are going to look like complete dicks. Both being real fan favourites at thier respective clubs show what football has really come to.
Another thing with all this tapping up (we have done it in the past, everyone is talking about Bostock which we know is bull, im just glad that nobody here is mentioning Ramos, I dont think we got him in the most professional of circumstances) But i hope the league come down on united/Liverpool, then atleast a lotof the bullshit that has happened this summer wont happen again.

Tottenham have been alerted to the news that Valencia midfielder David Albelda is looking for a new club to join this summer.

Albelda, who has also attracted the interest of Chelsea, is available for a bargain £1.5million after falling out of favour with the Spanish giants and Spurs could swoop.

The player tried to sue the Che after being told at the start of the year that he wasn't going to be picked to play for the first team again and a summer exit now looks certain.

Albelda, who has won more than 50 caps for Spain, is also wanted by former national team boss Luis Aragones who is now in charge at Turkish side Fenerbahce.

However, he fancies a crack at the Premiership and was one of the players that Juande Ramos expressed an interest in before the last transfer window closed.

David Albelda: Spurs Lead the Chase for Experienced £1.5M Midfield General

Source: footballpools

There are a number of Premier League clubs on the hunt for a midfield anchorman this summer such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Everton and Tottenham. Well, there’s a superb, experienced player fitting that bill reportedly available for a cut-price £1.5m. That player is Valencia’s David Albelda.
The 30-year-old is looking to leave the club this summer after a disappointing season in the last campaign when the team surprisingly struggled and he fell out with former coach Ronald Koeman. The Dutchman axed team Captain Albelda alongside other experienced stars Miguel Angulo and Santiago Canizaries on his arrival. This led to the player pleading for the club to end his contract on amicable terms due to his long service. The request was ignored by the club so in January Albelda seeked legal advice in order to leave the club.

However, after Koeman was sacked all 3 veteran stars were reinstated into the side under new coach Voro and Valencia successfully retained their top flight status. Since then the club have appointed Almeria’s young Spanish manager Unai Emery who has decided to allow Albelda to leave.
The 5 ft 11 midfielder has played his entire career with the club apart from 2 season long spells with Villarreal. He has made a total of 237 League appearances for the club (5 goals). Albelda won 2 League titles, a Uefa Cup and a European Supercup with the club. He also suffered the heart-break of a Champions League final defeat in 2001.

Albelda was a particular favourite of former Spanish national Coach Luis Aragones but due to a lack of first team football he missed out on Euro 2008 and could not build on his 51 appearances for his country. His career includes playing in the 2002 and 2006 Worlds Cups as well as Euro 2004 and the 2000 Sidney Olympics where he won a silver medal.

Tottenham’s Juande Ramos is reported to be keen on bringing his compatriot to White Hart Lane to add steel and experience to Spurs attack minded midfield although Chelsea have also been linked and have recently sold Claude Makelele. However, the combative disciplined midfield general would surely be an excellent relatively short-term signing for the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Man City who also need defensive midfield reinforcements.

Now this is someone i hope we get, with all this talk about strikers we are forgetting the CB and DM positions, this would cover the DM for a few years at least (Makalele joined Chelski when he was quite old and iddn't do too bad) plus it would be great experience for the likes of Thudd, Bostock and Rose. Can someone also tell me where that Asharvin stuff is?

If we get Albelda and Arshavin that would be pretty good and our starting 11 would look something like this....

----------------------------------------------------- Gomes

--------- Hutton ------------------- Woodgate ----------------- King ------------------------- Bale

------------------------------------------------------ALbelda ---------

--------- Lennon -------------------------- Jenas ------------- Modric --------------------------------- Dos Santos

--------------------------------------------------------- Arshavin -------------------------------------------

In 4-5-1 like Man Utd and Chelsea play, in a 4-4-2 swap Jenas for Bent and partner him up with Arshavin

Do you think Dos Santos will start that much this season? i think for the start at least Ramos will play Gilberto and Bale down the left, I hope Dos Santos gets in the team because he will become awesome but to start i think Ramos will go for safety and bale played great bombing down the left last year.

I have been looking at some spurs sites over the last hour and they have gone crazy overnight with some ITK information (it all could be bullshit but..) 1. We have pretty much signed Asharvin and Milito (on Russian radio apparently) and 2.we have offered Valencia 50 million for Villa,Silva and Albelda.
Now this is all probably mostly bollocks, but there are some serious names there

Keane is still in Spurs with the squad for pre-season. Spurs are waiting on bringing in 2 strikers before allowing Berbatov and Keane to leave. If we don't bring in any decent replacements, Keane & Berbatov will be Spurs players for the first half of the season, whether they like it or not.

Looks as though Robbo's off to Blackburn. Always got a rough trot and was never gonna get a look in now that Gomes is signed. Was a great fan's player though and I wish him well at Blackburn. Hopefully being at a lower profile club can take the pressure off him and he can regain his England spot.

Yeah i really hope we hold out for 20 mil for Keane and 30 mil for Berba especailly coz these big clubs think they can come in and pay what ever price they want and get away with it, i dont think Liverpool can afford 20 mil for Keane anyway.

Sunderland sign Tainio, Chimbonda next?

Sunderland have announced the signing of Tottenham midfielder Teemu Tainio, with Pascal Chimbonda's arrival expected to be confirmed imminently.

The pair were on Wearside this afternoon to undergo medicals, which Finland international Tainio passed.

The 28-year-old becomes Black Cats boss Roy Keane's first summer signing and has signed a three-year contract.

Tainio and Chimbonda were among four Tottenham players, along with Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul, to speak to Keane in the north-east on Saturday after the two clubs agreed fees for the quartet.

Keane intimated last night that personal terms had also been finalised with two or three of the players.

Versatile midfielder Tainio and full-back Chimbonda have both revealed how impressed they were with Keane at the weekend.

Chairman Niall Quinn and chief executive Peter Walker have managed to push through the first of the deals ahead of Keane's return with his squad from their pre-season camp in Portugal tomorrow.

Keane said on the club's official website, www.safc.co.uk: 'I'm delighted to sign a player of Teemu's experience and quality, he'll be a valuable addition to our squad.

'Teemu has showed versatility, playing in different midfield positions for both Tottenham and his previous club, Auxerre.

'But his experience in particular and the fact he has played more than 40 international games shows he has a lot to offer Sunderland.'

From everything I've heard, both Spurs and Liverpool sources, Liverpool haven't even made an offer yet. Just getting their players to do interviews about how great it would be to have him in the team (e.g. Kuyt & Benayoun).

Rovers snap up Robinson

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

The England international has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal after productive talks with Rovers manager Paul Ince.

£3.5million Robinson becomes Ince's first signing since swapping MK Dons for Ewood Park in the summer, after being informed he was surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane by Spurs manager Juande Ramos.

The 28-year-old began his career at Leeds United before a move to the capital in 2004, where he went on to make 137 appearances.

Robinson's arrival will almost certainly signal the departure of Brad Friedel.

The American has been in talks with Aston Villa over a £2million switch, which Rovers stated would only be completed once they had signed a replacement for the 37-year-old.

Tough test

Darren Bent's header secured a hard-fought draw in Thursday night's friendly against Hercules CF in Alicante, Spain.

The third pre-season encounter of our Spanish training camp was always going to be the toughest and so it proved with the home side from the Segunda Division of La Liga ahead early and willing to put their collective foot in to defend that lead.

Aaron Lennon might disagree after taking the brunt of it in the first half, but it could be argued that a friendly with an edge to it and few feisty tackles flying about is good for the lads at this stage.

That was certainly the case at the Jose Rico Perez Stadium and it's doubtful that Lennon's marker - left-back Dani Carril - would have still been on the pitch in a normal league match after a couple of crude challenges, one that forced referee Mr Cortes to brandish a yellow card.

Lennon had the last laugh though. The free-kick from that tackle led to a corner, Lennon curled it in and Bent climbed high with Jonathan Woodgate to loop home a header into the far corner with 35 minutes on the clock.

That was the equaliser after we'd made a somewhat sluggish start and fell behind inside five minutes. It was somewhat fortuitous, however, as striker Addison failed to connect as intended with Javi Gonzalez's cross only to see the ball loop off his shoulder and beyond the reach of Heurelho Gomes.

We grew stronger as the half progressed with Bent, Lennon and Huddlestone all close before Bent headed home the equaliser.

Gomes produced the save of the night to deny substitute Santacruz from close range four minutes into the second half but all the notable chances fell to us from that point.

Dos Santos went close twice and Bent once before we created three match-winning chances in the final five minutes. Dimitar Berbatov curled the first just wide, defender Sergia Diaz denied dos Santos with a fine late block and finally, in added time, Jamie O'Hara's free-kick fell to John Bostock who had to take his chance quickly and lashed over.

Hercules CF: Unai Alba, Dani Carril, Sergio, Camara, Javi Gonzalez, Sendoa, Abraham Paz, Exposito, Moran, Adisson, Calero. Subs: Calatuyud, Ruz, Rodri, Farinos, Cesar, Dani Bautista, Sergio Diaz, Santacruz, Raul, Luisao, Sergio Serrano, Efren, Kiko, Celso.

Spurs: Gomes, Gunter, Assou-Ekotto, Dawson, Woodgate, Lennon, Jenas, Huddlestone, dos Santos, Bent, Berbatov. Subs: Jansson, Zokora, Archibald-Henville, Bostock, O'Hara, Townsend, Taarabt, Pekhart.

Spurs A Possibility For Villa

David Villa's agent has not precluded the possibility of the Spanish star lining up for Tottenham next season.

Tottenham, who have an esteemed Spanish manager in the form of Juande Ramos, are thought to be already preparing a bid for Villa should Robbie Keane succumb to the temptation of joining Liverpool, and the Valencia star's agent has given them reason to believe that they could be successful were this to occur.

"Many clubs have contacted me about the chances of a player who is guaranteed to score goals in England," said Jose Luis Tamargo. "But I am convinced if Spurs present an offer, Valencia will study the subject."

"David likes London and likes how Tottenham play with Juande Ramos. This is a club that excites him," the agent was quoted as saying by Setanta Sports.

Spurs could very well face the daunting task of rivaling Real Madrid for the Euro 2008 star's signature, however, as rumours are rife that they will submit a whopping £31.5million bid in the case that they fail to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old, who scored 22 goals last season despite Valencia struggling to beat the drop.

Chimbonda to Sunderland

The Club can announce that we have reached agreement for the permanent transfer of Pascal Chimbonda to Sunderland.

Defender Pascal joined us from Wigan Athletic in August 2006, going on to make 98 appearances, scoring four goals.

We wish Pascal well for the future.
