Jack Mehorf wrote:I think its great that you guys are trying to come up with some ideas to rectify the refereeing situation but in all honesty, it wouldnt matter who we had doing the job, I'm sure there'd still be players/supporters/coaches who'd find things to whinge about. I think sometimes people forget (although it has been mentioned before) that these blokes are human as well and are bound to make mistakes. Some may cost goals, some may cost games.....sh*t happens! Instead of people taking such a hard look at the refereeing maybe take a look at your own performance and rectify that before using the ref's as a cop out.[/

Make your mind up, first your saying it's great then your saying it's a cop out :?:

Most are good, some are average and some just should'nt be out there full stop. They only cause more trouble than the game is worth. How many players have ended up injured after baring the brunt of a bad tackle after a game has got out of control due to poor
refereeing :?:
Did you read what I wrote properly or just quickly scan it? Maybe I didn't write it properly. I wasn't insinuating that the people providing solutions were the ones that would whinge, simply saying that no matter what happens or who is refereeing.....people in general will still whinge and blame the referee. Until these people learn to look at their own game rather than a referee's performance, every monday there will be a new topic about how sh*t a referee was. As for the injuries thing, its an unfortunate part of our game and yes sometimes in the heat of battle people get hurt. If you dont like it go and play netball!!

Oh did I strike a nerve jack?? You do realise you've just validated the point that in contact sports injuries are inevitable and are just part of the game?? Lucky they didnt have a forum like this set up when you played footy or my guess is you'd probably be on there complaining about the umpiring standards

As for Offside - you've specifically set up a topic to whinge about referees decisions so who's the fkn whinger??

Mate, your sending us in a spin..............3 days later and i'm still not sure what your on about :?: Your not a referee by any chance are you :?: . If you are I hope your one of the high percentage of goods ones i described earlier on. Everyone is subject to scrutinisation no matter who you are, refs included, why shouldn't they be :?: That's how things are worked out buddy....it's called living in a democratic world.

Do any SAASL refs post on here? Are they allowed to? (I would presume no unless they do it incognito)

In the Sat Div 5 match Sturt Marion v Strathalbyn, our ref had to go warm up for the B team so we had the assistant manager of the Bs ref the last 20 minutes. There was an intentional hand-ball in the box by a Strathalbyn defender which blocked a shot, right on the penalty spot - the ball fell to his feet, then he cleared the ball with a punt up field. I asked the ref why no penalty was given and he replied with "I was paying advantage". We had a healthy lead so it didn't bother me too much, or matter, but that is easily the worst decision I have witnessed. The "advantage" was the ball going out for a throw in near the half-way line.

I'm not a ref...fk that for a job. I didnt think it was that hard to understand....my point is no matter who is refereeing you will still get knobs who come on and whinge about the refereeing when they lose.

Yep...we are allowed so long as we comply with our code of conduct.

Do many others (no need to name names or usernames)?
What does the code of conduct cover? I presume you can't mention specific incidents.

Don't know of anyone else. There are others like Hawkesy who are qualified (at least Level 4) referees but are still playing.

Code of conduct basically describes how we behave, what we can make comment on etc. All common sense.

When are you going to be a ref instead of a celebrity spectator?

I have done it in the past. I prefer to watch, although I run the line if I'm asked.

Cop this.
Florinas 1st goal vs Croatia.
Croatia keeper chipped, dived backwards and cleared (perhaps yes perhaps no) off the goal line.
Ref couldnt see , linesman 10 or more yards off bi-line. Both confer for 30 seconds and goal given.
Naturally we are dissapointed. Spoke to the ref after the game and i asked how he could give the goal.
QUOTE
"Your keeper didnt protest enough. If he did, i probably wouldnt have given it."

Another beauty.
Inter vs Croatia few weeks back.
Croatia striker booked for diving in the box. While rolling around in "simulated" agony. the ref
called for medical assistance for him..yellow card still in hand.

Hi
I'd just like to comment if i may. I am a ref in my 1st year out here ( over 6 yrs in the uk ) and thought i'd put my 2 penneth in. I have seen so many differences between refereeing here and in the UK.I have tried to adopt a style that helps the players. What used to piss me off as a player was the high and mighty attitude of some refs, so i decided that i'd explain every decision i make as a ref cos thats what annoyed me most. Out of 100,s of games i've reffed i've maybe had 1 that didnt like it. As refs we can help players by quickly explaining a decision and moving on.I find that 99% of players appreciate it and have told me after or during a game. The Laws of the Game state refs should try and smile every once in a while which i adopt in every game too. Some players just spoil it for everyone and try to take advantage of this and whinge and whine at everything and you've no choice but to caution them. Take one example, I blew up for a freekick but slightly early and there could have been an advantage if i'd have waited another second.I was annoyed with myself so ( as per the law of the game handbook - admit your human ) i shouted "sorry lad blew a bit early there missed the advantage" which the player appreciated. I then had a player race 40 yards to scream in my face "you shouldnt say sorry to anyone you are the ref what you playing at" AAARRGGGHHH ! YOU CANT WIN ! I think another thing is that players clearly dont read the laws of the game or have any idea on the job of a referee.Week after week i get players moaning because a freekick isnt taken from the exact spot or a throw in has been taken 2 yards further on, or theres a slightly rolling ball from an offside deep in the defensive half.If these players looked in the rule book they'd see that refs are encouraged to let the game flow and if these throwins and slightly rolling balls and free kicks deep in the defensive area are a couple of yards out then let play continue as theres clearly no advantage.I have been amazed by the warmth of some teams and the fantastic family/club atmosphere with a lot of clubs ( clearly lacking in uk ) and this makes refereeing an enjoyable experience. There are others though ,who deliberately go out of there way to abuse insult and try to spoil what should be a good day out for all.Apologies for waffling but i'd just like to make one final point and its on something touched on earlier. When it comes to refereeing i have a 90 minute memory that means if a players had a bad day, called me whatever, kicked whoever and abused whoever...its forgotten about by next week, new week new sheet and i hope all players and refs adopt that attitude as anything else just isn't fair. Good site with some good discussion points.Thanks.
