8 groups, 8 cities.
Gold Coast
Brisbane
Sydney
Newcastle
Melbourne
Tasmania or Canberra
Adelaide
Perth
As you'll see they are in groups of 2. 1 stadium in each. For the final games of the round (where 2 games in the group must be played simultanously) you switch to the other city. eg. Group 7 in adelaide, 2 teams go to perth for the final game and vice versa.
The second round is played in same cities. with the winners of the group staying in the same city and the runner up playing the winner of their sister group.
This would minimise number of stadia used, and also ensure there is not a hige amount of travelling to be done. The largest is a bit much but only affects 2 of the groups.
Then to the QF's and only 4 grounds needed, easily fixed to ensure minimal travelling around.
Compare that to travel between australia and china and it's a much better plan.
BUT easily better is the England option.

yeh, you'd think so they have got so many already built football stadiums. in Australia, we'd have to use oval shaped grounds like the MCG which are designed to host cricket and AFL, and i dont think many people would be impressed with watching from distance every game they went to.

Suncorp has capacity - 52,500 and isn't an oval, so that is one good choice
Telstra Stadium 83,500 (rectangular) - they got 83000 for Aus V Uruguay and it originally held 110,000
MCG 100,000 but is an oval
Sydney Football stadium - 45500
Telstra dome - 56000
New Zealand or Newcastle
SA
Perth
that's five existing world class sporting venues with 10 years to develop!
thats pretty good existing infrastructure, remembering that we could invest dollars into building up stadia in Australia that will put football in good stead for the future!
Would be an amazing month in Australia!
I hate AAMI stadium and this shit stadium shouldnt host a game!
Our best bet (unlikely) is that Hindmarsh+perth would be redeveloped as the money invested in the world cup was spread across the country and not just focussed on the main stadia! Get it up to 40k+ and then we are in business!
Dickhead Rann will spend 30mil on a useless tram extension, so why not build up Hindmarsh! Do it right the first time and don't go to 25,000 only to perhaps need to change it later!

telstra dome is also an oval. plus how much further can hindmarsh be developed?? theres not exactly a great deal of space around the ground. england has wembley - 90 000, old trafford - 76 000, emirates stadium - 60 000, st james' - around 50 000??, anfield, city of manchester and even villa park, goodisn park, elland road and stamford bridge hold 40 thousand+, whats the point in developing if you dont have to.pires7 wrote:Suncorp has capacity - 52,500 and isn't an oval, so that is one good choice

1. I'm positive NZ is not possible with the cross confederations.
2. melbourne and sydney both have 2 grounds in that list. I'm also positive that you can only use 1 city with 2 stadia. What about Geelong instead of the MCG?
I think you are all missing the point, it's a case of votes and support if Asia compete with China, China get the backing of the Asian Condeferation - Australia have no power and no support therefore no chance - we don't even have Oceania! If we apply together we have far more clout and therefore more chance. The arguements re logistics are all secondary, do you think South Africa won on merit?
hawkesy is right about the fans . it would be the worst world cup from a fans point of view . imagine if your team plays their group games in china , you follow them all around china . they qualify for the next round and then you have to fork up money to follow in australia . next they win their game and have to move to another city in australia . they win that game and have their semi in china . their is to much cost for the average fan . i suppose for the people that agree it can work went to germany and realised just to follow australia it cost close to 3k for flight to germany and trains . was just in germany
Trains ! this is going to be a problem for us would be interesting to see what the ffa has planned for the thousands of fans to move around once in australia to city to city

I think you will see that they will pull out closer to the vote if England is well aheadCerveza wrote:so saying that why should russia holland and belgium put a bid in if england is the favouriteKnight7 wrote:I think you are all missing the point, it's a case of votes and support if Asia compete with China, China get the backing of the Asian Condeferation - Australia have no power and no support therefore no chance - we don't even have Oceania!
