Seems that all the kids were winners....Adelaide United did it very well with all the kids coming away with a bag and drink bottle and pleny of players to sign things and even have a kick with the kids. My son was thrilled to have a kick with some of the players and will remember that as much as any game he might play...

Adelaide United did it very well
mmmmmmm!!!!
yea i wasnt too happy with the setup either,
the united players visit and the freebies were great,
the setup of the pitches and the rules werent the best.
all in all a good day thou.
dont get me wrong... the concept was great, however.....
1 - with 14 schools participating and approx 160 students present, where were the TV cameras??? if Val's child wasnt participating, there wouldnt have been any advertiser coverage either.
2 - schools werent given the draw in advance, so they had no idea what time it was going to finish. consent forms to parents indicated a return to school at approx 3pm.... yeah right.
3 - the rules of the tournament changed on the day. schools were told that it would be 7 a side and to bring squads of 10. it turned out to be 5 a side, with 5 subs.
4 - the goals were very tiny, which meant goals from open play was very rare. easiest way to score was from a free kick (a direct shot on goal, no keeper). so you can guess what everyone was trying to do... play for free kicks!!!!
5 - refs were very inexperienced and some games had the potential to flare up... which they did
6 - i found a shovel half buried next to one of the pitches (students were playing bare-foot) - OHSW
7 - canteen only sold soft drinks, chocolates and chips. buying a roll from the deli next door cost students approx $5
8 - the age range varied from yr 8-10 boys and girls, all playing against each other. it was obvious some of the yr 8's were intimidated by the older students
once again, it's a great idea and the give a ways were much appreciated. if anyone from adl utd reads this - nothing personal, as im sure if youve done your own review of the tournament, these things will be rectified by next year. well done!!!!

TV arrived at approx 3.00 (some schools had left by then)

Meaning that the best team did not necessarily win...was more luck than anything...definately the goals were too small!
5 - refs were very inexperienced and some games had the potential to flare up... which they did
which meant that one free kick incorrectly given was very costly

To be fair you cannot blame AU for this and as with any of these situations BYO food and drinks is always a good idea

I think it's always hard to get these things right on the first go....while I agree kids got frustrated at the free kick - goal factor but they certainly all had a great time and I was very impressed at the level of player support from AU
to MegaBonus although it waz from yr 8-10 the younger players on the day seemed they werent intimidated by their older opponents as in the grandfinal it was between 2 yr 8 teams(rossi the eventual winners) and it must have been good experience for the younger players to play against older players so they could see how they faired against older players.
no worries champ!!! the yr 8 girls from NMHS werent intimidated by the yr 10 boys from CBC, gleeson or underdale.
dont get me wrong, well done to the rossi boys!!! however, after the first round of games, quite a few teams were more intent on having a good time rather than winning it!!!
