Sunday Junior Futsal

Post by johnydep »

Our team played their first Futsal game ever, they loved it 8)

I couldn't stop laughing, when we first got to the venue the younger kids (a mix of 8, 9, 10 & 11 year olds) looked very worried, they had never seen such a fast paced game on small courts, the sub keeper had second thoughts, the looks on their faces were hilarious.

Once they got on the court it was a different story, they played like they've played it a thousand times. At half time the smiles went from ear to ear, they're hooked for life.

This is a great soccer learning tool for the kids, gets them to think fast, make quick decisions, practice ball control, keep fit, the lest is long.

I'm starting to have second thoughts on Futsal. It's got potential but I thing two things are letting it down;
  • the playing surface
    refereeing.
After seeing a couple of ankle injuries on the younger kids I'm concerned; the hard playing surface may cause long term problems to young developing bones and ligaments.

When I check out the rules I was under the impression that there would be two refs, one on each side line. That's not happening, due to a lack of officials. That's OK, as the ref usually runs around the pitch and does a fair job. However, they are starting to stay on one side and guess what's happening on the opposite side (which never works).

The kids are still having fun but I'm starting to like the FFSA plan more and more, small sided games; http://www.footballnews.com.au/article.php?id=1943

Hi Johnydep,

Please dont feel discouraged, if you look at the statistics you get more injuries playing outdoor soccer rather than you would futsal. I am sure the officials are doing there best. The biggest problem I have is there not teaching futsal the way it should. Futsal SA arnt teaching futsal the proper way, you cant play outdoor version indoors, it is there to express your emotions and footskills to help you develop both sided players. Futsal isnt there to promote the outdoor game. Futsal can stand up on its own. You dont have tennis players playing squash to help with their tennis. Each sport gives you experience to help you learn new tools and skills. You must understand to have 2 refs the fees must be increased. I am sure there doing there best. What might help if a parent would stand on one side just to call out if the ball goes out, that might help short term. In Brazil they play Futsal to further develop their skills, kids need to practise their skills everyday. Adelaide Stingrays Futsal will be touring Brazil 2008, to watch the Futsal World Cup also to tour some futsal/soccer camps to train with Brazilians. Will release more on this soon. If you would like to play in Stingrays Futsal Programs contact Spiros 0414 662 771 or via email adelaidestingray@bigpond.com

Thanks sting, good post.

My aim, when signing the kids up to futsal, was for them to enjoy a different type of game, improve on their ball skills and to stay fit; which is working out great.

As you would know, one bad decision can change the whole flow of a game. When there are ways that can help and they're not used it becomes frustrating.

The refs are doing the best job they can but they seem to be under more pressure as the season roles on, yesterdays decisions were very poor and unfair to the kids but we all understand that's part of the game.

If having two referees is an unwarranted increase in cost, educate the refs to move around the pitch.

I keep hearing the name 'Stingrays', so I will conact Spiro and get some info on how their set up works.

Cheers.

Hi Johnydep,

I am not sure what rules they are using for fouls, they might have this already, each team has 5 fouls in each half the 6th foul becomes a penalty kck and and each fouls after that, that will encourage them not to foul. There is a way to teach kids how to tackle smarter by reading the play. If you make it to competitive and forget about developing this is what happens, we need to teach kids the art of futsal and educate them about the skills they can use and improve on. There reaction time on the ball is a skill that players need to develop. If you are wanting to have a chat please call spiros 0414 662 771. We have futsal at Mars Sorting Complex on Friday from 4.00pm onwards. Thank you again for your reply.

Sting,, can you please post your money making propaganda some where else. sure you will tour brazil wow what’s that going to do (make yourself a little bit of cash). Your little company have nothing to do with the national competitions held each year. Yes they do run the 5 foul systems through the futsal sa held comps. so can your little money making business go find somewhere else to advertise.

Jets, ease up there m8y. He was answering a question he was asked.

Sting, it doesn't help with your comment about not knowing whether Campbelltown use the 5 foul system or not. Of course they do, as they are affilliated with FFA through FFSA - just like your franchise (apologies, for want of a better word); albeit in the Eastern States (I think) - and run with the same rules as the Nationals.

Crikey, the politics in Futsal is 'interesting' to say the least.

HI Johnny dep
I am disappointed in your comments regarding the referees..Yes they have done their best and the safety issue is our first priority before any match.
There are a lot of new ones this year refereeing Futsal and three of them have now expereinced the National Futsal Championships in Canberra where they got looked at by FIFA Referees and Accredited Futsal Inspectors.
They would have learnt a lot from these Championships which will make them better Futsal and outdoor referees in the future so no one will grizzle about not knowing the rules.
Everyone has to start somewhere and mistakes happen every day in life not just in Futsal.
Spiro from the Stingrays has told you himself that there are more injuries from the outdoor game than the indoor.
Regarding the Rules, Futsal SA referees are all FFA accredited Futsal Referees whether new or not so new. Some are full time Futsal Referees and some just do it in the offseason.
They have all been instucted to apply the Full FIFA Rles with only slight midifications with the two thirds rule so that the players are encouraged to build up play instead of Keeper to Keeper throws leaving the court players watching an aerial battle between the keepers.
If anyone would like to do the Futsal Referee accreditation course please contact the Futsal SA Referees Coach Ray Grima on 0411-636-590. There are courses coming up soon.

Why Raymond? I was fair, I haven't abused anyone, said untruths or gone on about it. I only shared my opinion as a coach of the game and a father of a player (and a level 1 refs licence). You've actually brought the thread back to life.

My aim was feedback and improvement. Now it is I who is disappointed. Disappointed that instead of someone gathering information and discussing the situation with me to resolve a perceived fault with my comments ,I've been reprimanded.

Futsal is a great game, and referees require lots of encouragement and thanks, I have no gripe with either but I beleive that discussion is a good thing.

Fair call Johnydep,

i often used to walk away from a game -soccer and futsal- and think, Geez, who'd be a coach/ref.
