Salisbury Inter
I have just had a look at the tables with 3 games to go and I couldnt believe my eyes that Inter are bottom. I have had a look at there website and id say its been a while since they were in the 2nd Div (Does any one know) Its a tragedy! If they go down (Hope they dont) it wouldnt be the same in the First Division.
they have never been out of DIV1.............

I think you'll find Inter have been in Division I since 1978 which makes it 30 years, not 34. Still it's a pretty good record.
--------------------------------1977 Division II
--------------------------P---W---D---L---F---A---Pts----Position
Elizabeth Downs--- 18--13---4---1--49--15--30------Top
Salisbury Inter------ 18--13---2---3--46--15--28------Runners Up
--------------------------------1977 Division II
--------------------------P---W---D---L---F---A---Pts----Position
Elizabeth Downs--- 18--13---4---1--49--15--30------Top
Salisbury Inter------ 18--13---2---3--46--15--28------Runners Up

......

I can confirm that finderskeeper, as a member of the 1977 Downs 1st Team with Roy Ainscough as player coach. In 1978 the Downs finished 4th in Division 1 But by 1979 half the Downs team deserted/were lured to Inter and the Downs were relegated.
That was probably the start of Downs repect/hate relationship with Inter!

Inter had no problem sending the Downs down at least 3 times we can think of so boo hoo to them and i heard the big rumour sunday they will struggle next year and possibly fold with Florina to take over the club..No concrete money anymore has hurt them...steedy wrote:they have never been out of DIV1.............

A few of the lads I was with brought it up and a fairly reliable lad overheard us talking and confirmed he had heard the same thing. Hey look all the best to them and I hope they survive and come back to div 1 and we said it many a year ago not having juniors has come back to haunt them. Clubs like the Downs, Vale, Gardens and the rest rely on their junior support to get the club loyalty and players when they are struggling. The majority of players that are playing for the Downs at present have played juniors there. they may go somewhere else but they always come back. For Inter to get through this they definitly need to get a junior program started because once the money drys up you need the grass root support to carry you through. Damm I am rambling today..themachine wrote:strong rumour legga...
where did you hear that from or cant you reveal your source ?
i certainly enjoyed my time there and always supported the club

you're not rambling and do make a valid point, juniors is almost a must for a club to survive long term and if they are looking at setting up juniors thats a step in the right direction.
I know when i was there, they were looking at setting up some sort of collaboration with salisbury city juniors, but for some reason/s it never eventuated

Juniors is a must for clubs today! All the strong clubs have some junior program, our club lost it's juniors for a few years & went through the hard times that Salisbury Inter are going through now! you cant survive with 3 teams especially if you want to be successfull in the 1st Div. thankfully we re-introduced our juniors seven years ago & we have grown into a strong junior club with 20 teams & growing. We're just starting to again see the benifits of developing juniors now with a few playing senior football this year. Through juniors you get more supporters, sell more more goods & make more money & then you can invest back into your club not to mention the most important part of developing loyal Garden's players. Good luck to Inter 1st Div. wont be the same without them love them or hate there a great club!

I think there are genuine reasons why Inter isnt doing to well, I can honestly say from my time at Inter that its has nothing to do with money drying up, believe it or not all of Inters players are on the same money and to be honest there way behind in the way they do give incentives compared to other clubs but this isnt why. Juniors is a big point, back in 94 Salisbury City approached Inter BUT INTER SAID NO!!!! I bet they wished they had a crystal ball. Inter is a very Clicky club I think thats a bit of a reason, maybe Bruno was there 1 year to long (Not saying its anything to do with Bruno). Raf de Pino wasnt the best by the looks of things its the first time (I think) Inter have sacked a coach mid year. Heres a suggestion Move to Salisbury Villas ground and take Salisbury Citys Juniors with you. Start afresh, new committee, new sponsors, sweep out your players and find some new ones, appoint Stuart Tyerman for next year and before you know it you will be back in the First Division!!legga wrote:A few of the lads I was with brought it up and a fairly reliable lad overheard us talking and confirmed he had heard the same thing. Stuart has done a great job with Inter this season. Unfortunately Inter had bad luck with injuries. Think their Keeper was the biggest loss, then key players like Arthur, Colin etc didn't help. Inter will be back to Div 1, it's were they belong. Hopefully the players continue to play for the club and stick around. All the Best Inter (of course i'm hoping you don't get relegated)

themachine, how are Inter a 'clicky' club? Do you think it revolves around the fact they are a family run club?Left Right Out wrote:I think there are genuine reasons why Inter isnt doing to well, I can honestly say from my time at Inter that its has nothing to do with money drying up, believe it or not all of Inters players are on the same money and to be honest there way behind in the way they do give incentives compared to other clubs but this isnt why. Inter were relegated from Div1 in 1975, spent 1976-77 in Div2.robinfriday10 wrote:the last time inter were in div 2 was 1973, 34 years straight!!!!! 11 league titles , 7 runners up, 10 cups, 7 chickenman cups. shame if they are to be relegated but all good things generally come to an end![]()

as a ex inter player it sadden's me to see the club go down, but dosent really serprise me though.due to not really attracting players over the years it was allways going to happen when the likes of arty and willow ect got to old for div 1 or retired.
they really should of rebuilded a few years ago but didnt.i think that the bittoto family has done a great service to the club over 40 years but now is the time to let go and let the next generation to take over the club.
there prob will be a few more lean years for the club to i would say,i may not play for the club now but they will forever be with me.great famiuly club and look after you very well
