Over 35's 2018 Mega Thread

Hey all,

I have some questions about the upcoming season, but I thought it was just as well to start a thread that can be added to for other issues/inquiries etc. as the year goes on.

Anyways, I have heard a few rumblings about a significantly shortened season for the Over 35's this year (apparently a late start and only 11 or so rounds). I also read something on FB where someone suggested that after the initial fixture of 11 or so rounds the league might split into two (top 6 or so sides playing off and bottom six sides playing off).

Can anyone confirm the start date and what is going on in terms of the fixture? Even better, does anyone have a copy they could add here?

Mate, clearly you have no affiliation with headquarters. There are just too many sensible ideas and sound reasoning in this post.

Last year was a 22 game season and that worked, but personally I think it would be around 18 rounds in a perfect world. 11 games would just not be enough and if it a 12-14 team league the model where each club plays each other once and then splitting into the two halves of the table is the way to go.

Whichever way it goes, it seems it is leaving it all pretty bloody late. I know that is nothing new, but my concern is that the best model may require us to start sooner rather than the proposed later start, to get through the season on time.

If anyone gets any updates from HQ it would be great if you could pass the details on.

Cheers For posting them Htfac. Sounds like there are a few leagues that are having numbers change at the death and a few fixtures are still getting sorted. You would think they need to have a stronger cut off date moving forward.

Vista couldn't field a C team and a +35s as they have lost a lot of players from last year in their higher grades. Past +35s players who wanted to are now playing Cs with the others not playing at all.
Para Hills I think were struggling to field a full +35s so they've shifted to a C team. After last year took its toll on enthusiasm I feel. A bit like Gawler the year before.
Sturt Marion apparently had intent to field a +35s. Not sure what happened here. Maybe the thought of travelling north every second week got the better of that idea??
But Parafield Gardens have re-entered the +35s league. So lost two gained one from last year.
Cant blame the Amateur League. They are at the mercy of the clubs to a degree. Don't really want to see clubs/teams/players turned away. I'm sure the SAASL tries to at least offer leagues with at least 18 games a season. Clubs also try there best based on last years numbers when nominating teams. Players moving from club to club (for fickle reasons or otherwise) or players just leaving it until the last minute (particularly in +35s) make getting team numbers right early very difficult.

yes, it was postponed. happy to stand corrected but I think Gardens asked for it to be played on Friday night which Westies couldn't arrange in time.

Gardens did request the game to be moved thanks to Westies for accommodating us.
The league have informed us it needs to be played within the next 3 weeks.
Also Gardens have contacted the league to advise that due to pitch restrictions
ALL Gardens home games will kick off at 1pm. We will notify opposition before each
game to make sure that they are aware. We will also be looking to move some games
to a Friday night with a 7/7:30 kick when the new lights are installed.

1 nil halftime 3 nil full time with 2 different goal scorers .... Grove only had 6 players turn
up today so Jets did the admirable thing and gave them 4 players so they could play

Now the Modbury Jets v Grove game has been changed to a forfeit the leading goal scorer could be determined this weekend when Farm play Jets. There is currently (when the ladder on the website is changed) one goal difference between the top two players.

So Grove played unregistered players and Jets allowed their players to play. I'd dock them both points. We can't allow this good sportsmanship stuff to drift into the Over 35's Division.

Dear Clubs – Over 35’s Sunday Division 9

The Investigation into the discrepancies has been finalised and the following has been determined:.

Over 35’s Cup Final

The Over 35’s Cup final will proceed as scheduled on Sunday 30th September 2018 at Coopers Stadium.
Parafield Gardens (home) vs Modbury Jets Amateurs (away).
Gates open at 9.30am and kick off will be at 10.30am.
Over 35’s Cup Rules are attached. If there is no result after normal time, there will be no extra time and the match will be concluded by penalties.
Please note a maximum of 16 SAASL registered players, in compliance with the Over 35’s Cup Rules, will be permitted to participate and listed on the team sheet.
No more than 12 persons, including substitutes, allowed in the Technical Area. Interchange at the Match Official’s determination will be permitted.
The Clubs will be provided no more than 23 passes for players and officials to enter the Change rooms.
Two Ball boys per Club will be required for the game.
Clubs are to ensure there is no clash of strip colours – shorts, shirts and socks must be different as per the Laws of the Game.
Please provide your Cup squad names, including Coach, to the League office by Wednesday 26th September for the Cup Final Program.

Fixtures and League Ladder outcome.
The following has been determined and the Results and League standings will be updated by the admin team on Monday 24th September 2018.

Modbury Jets Old Boys v Parafield Gardens
· The fixture was incorrectly determined as a forfeit due to conflicting and unclear information received at the time by the League office.
· Modbury Jets Old Boys did not forfeit the fixture, the game was played as a normal fixture but an ineligible player participated.
· Modbury Jets Old Boys were prompt and honest with their response to the investigation and have apologised for breaching the Competition Rules
· As per the League Rules, the original result to Parafield Gardens will be reinstated as a 13-0 win, goal scorers will also be reinstated.
· Modbury Jets Old Boys will be sanctioned under the SAASL Disciplinary Rules

Modbury Jets Old Boys v Salisbury Inter
· Modbury Jets Old Boys played an ineligible player in this fixture
· This fixture was not a forfeit by Modbury Jets Old Boys and was played as a normal fixture.
· The ineligible player scored 3 goals and the original result was entered a win to Modbury Jets Old Boys 3 v Salisbury Inter 2.
· Modbury Jets Old Boys were prompt and honest with their response to the investigation and have apologised for breaching the Competition Rules
· As per the League Rules, this fixture will now be reversed and the match awarded to Salisbury Inter 2-0 and 3 championship points.
