AFLW Kicking goals and Soccer is a Slumber
Seems like my post and topic have the statisticians an good news party rattling off stats and other bits of information to rebut the juggernaut that is AFL-W.
Leave things as they are and leave the door ajar for footy

Last night on Fox during the AFL-W footy segment (yes a program dedicated to the women’s sport) I caught a glimpse of GC Suns announcement. Best thing is that the representatives of the submission, announced that the layers WILL HAVE ACCESS to the newly built felicities that were built for the Commonwealth Games.
No if’s, Not bits. No caveats. Collingwood have opened their doors to their footy and netball teams. A-League slumbers while Rome burns.
Don’t get me wrong, I am perplexed how the AFL-W is getting all the publicity and support when really the standard is not up to national league level however I give kudos for the exposure and SUPPORT the clubs are giving them. Women’s soccer has and always be shunted behind the men, the boys and even over age Masters comp.
Whilst the established footy clubs have embraced this sector of the supporter group. Girls/women that love the game. My advice to soccer players grappling with sub-standard support and facilities (AUFC take note) is move on to footy. I see happy people talking about footy and clubs genuinely proud to have the association. A-League/WNPL it’s a different story.
There is less politics. Greater appreciation by the broader community and of course the clubs that acknowledge and embrace the women’s game as a valid sport and not as a thing “they have to do to keep up appearances”. Maybe it’s because the A-League/W-League teams are privately owned??
I am really worried about women’s soccer and the AFL juggernaut. While we tinker with new coaches and make excuses about why AUFC women have failed to make the finals in a decade, the AFL teams have the backing and support of many people that will ensure its longevity and success.
Hard to argue with your statement specially since
NPL and A league women along with some female netball, hockey, cricket
Athletes, table tennis, basketballers and even frisbee players have jumped onboard the
AFL -women's wagon

Re: AFLW Kicking goals and Soccer is a Slumber
Thanks.......................The cross over from other sports to AFL-W is somewhat simpler that going the other way. Soccer for instance is a far more difficult game (at the higher level) to move across to.
In saying that though, I have seen cricketers and netball/basketball players transition into goal keeping. Their agility and reflex actions make them ideal. Field players........nope.
Issue at hand though is the support given by the clubs for which the A-League clubs and the FFA give very little.

I think you'd find the proportionate spend on women's football compared to mens in AUS would be at a higher percentage than the rest of the world bar USA.

Your argument makes me wonder if you're aware of this.

The AFL is using the AFLW as a marketing tool nothing more.billy the kid wrote:You know what they say…Lies damn lies and statistics!!
It’s like the average wage….Not many get the average. It’s like the Proportionate spend in OZ vs rest of the world…Has no bearing on what the women’s football landscape is actually like.
For the fastest growing sport. With huge numbers of players. With W league that is now being shown to be lagging (embarrassingly) behind AFL-W. One has existed for 10 years (came after the WNSL) and the other is barely 6 months old. Difference is support at the highest level vs a dwindling level of support from top to States and Territories.
Nothing I’ve seen over the last 5 years gives me any confidence that the players will be afforded the best possible opportunity to succeed. The A-League is spiralling down in standard and that is where the money and resources will be directed to. The W-League will see less. Local clubs with a W League team will go for the budget option and provide very little. Please do not see this as a criticism of the players (local) they give a lot in pursuit of the opportunity to wear the Red strip. Never ever question their effort and dedication. Just match the support YOU GIVE to their dedication and you’ll be close. Get it on TV. Not just 1 game.
AFL for mine is showing the way. TV coverage of most games in prime time. W League is hidden away on FOX with ONE DAMN GAME A WEEK. How can the game grow when no one sees it. The W League talent leaves the AFL-W for dead. There is no comparison and sometimes I wonder how the hell are people going to watch the footy game. The W-League is a far superior product that is not being promoted. Never has and never will. Where was the publicity in SA when we had the first Brazilian player (and Olympian and World Cup Player)? Professional USA players here too. VERY LITTLE if any publicity. Online mainly.
There’s more to proportionate spend when we are talking about what actually filters down to the team. Little money is being spent.
Put up a better comment/argument than the one you have.
The cost for them to run the mini-competition is peanuts compared to the goodwill that they generate with sponsors etc.
I am all for the womens game lifting itself with regards to remuneration and exposure, however who pays for it?
The game itself doesn't generate the revenue to meet what the community wants, so where does it come from?
It's all in the Delivery!

Here is my arguement.... W-League get NPL crowds in a 6 home game season.billy the kid wrote:You know what they say…Lies damn lies and statistics!!
