Why aren't all the countries representing GB (which isn't an individual country) at the Olympics compete as individual countries like all other countries.

If the GB flag is the union jack flag which is made up of the colours of the red and white flag of England and the blue and white flag of Scotland then why does the English football team play in red white and blue - surely it should be just red and white and have no Scottish blue in it as they are not playing football for GB.
