Re: South Australia - pitch doctoring
Perhaps you could summarise what a typical Glenelg pitch is like, then ask yourself if Tasmania prefer any sort of particular wicket and how you might know who would win the toss and then ask what the relevance of the topic is apart from just another whinge?

If Tasmania were concerned about a green top, maybe they shouldn't have chosen to bat when they won the toss.

Redbacks keeper describes it as greener than usual.
A result pitch produced miraculously produced when a result is needed to give the home side any chance of making finals.
Sounds very similar to when a result pitch was produced in 2009 at the Oval and the Aussies whinged about it.

Why would you prepare a wicket to go against you??

So because Tasmania won the toss and batted it's not pitch doctoring?Bomber wrote:Slinky_Pete wrote:If Tasmania were concerned about a green top, maybe they shouldn't have chosen to bat when they won the toss.

It's more showing that Tasmania didn't seem to have any issues with the pitch, so why should you?God is an Englishman wrote:So because Tasmania won the toss and batted it's not pitch doctoring?Bomber wrote:Slinky_Pete wrote:If Tasmania were concerned about a green top, maybe they shouldn't have chosen to bat when they won the toss.

Most countries (if not all) do it or have tried in the past.
The home team doesn't receive its advantages unless it wins the toss, or in this case loses the toss but the other captain is a clown.
I have no issue with seaming wickets or the occasional green top to give bowlers a bit of an opportunity - the good batsmen should still be able to play through it albeit with difficulty.

Agree with most of that. All countries do it (apparently not the australians thoughFrank Costanza wrote: It's pitch doctoring.

In this case, it was about producing a pitch that would bring about a result.

How dare anyone try and produce a result in a sporting contest. Shameful, innit?God is an Englishman wrote:Agree with most of that. All countries do it (apparently not the australians thoughFrank Costanza wrote: It's pitch doctoring.

The Oval 2009, England were accused of doctoring for doing exactly the same.Bomber wrote:How dare anyone try and produce a result in a sporting contest. aussies jumped up and down complaining, yet here we are with exactly the same being done and it being defended.

Re: South Australia - pitch doctoring
I completely agree with you about the argument regarding doctored pitches...God is an Englishman wrote:Let's hear the excuses for this one.
BUT...
1. This curator's first Shield pitch at Glenelg, characteristics completely consistent with other cricket pitches he has produced for Second XI and Premier League games at Park 25 in previous seasons
2. Atypical humid weather of late meant a lot more moisture went into the pitch for this particular game.
I think Shield pitches this year across the board are being prepared for results... Nothing wrong with it, but nothing different to every other pitch in the country every week (Victoria only needed a draw in their game in Alice Springs this week, but that pitch definitely can't be described as a road, and it's their home game). I don't believe (I be honest that I'm considerably biased, and only watch games live in one state) anyone doctors the pitches for their individual team, but they do prepare a pitch conducive to a result on every occasion.
Just my (limited) observation

Re: South Australia - pitch doctoring
I cant ever remember jumping up and down about a cricket pitch in England ever, in fact I cant remember any 'Aussies' complaining about it.God is an Englishman wrote:The Oval 2009, England were accused of doctoring for doing exactly the same.Bomber wrote:How dare anyone try and produce a result in a sporting contest. The only pitch fixing to suit a team I remember from the UK is Stoke when they played on the EPL minimums so Rory Delap could land throw ins on the back post & decent teams had no width to be able to play, but when they qualified for Europe they had to increase the width of the pitch so they tennis court lines down the side of the pitch.
But its called a home ground advantage for a reason, but to be sulking about this Sheffield shield game, please, I reckon I'd be checking the Tassie captains Sportsbet account before I'd be scrutinising the pitch.

Its only "whingeing" when Aussies do it, yet he keeps bringing it up himself and then suddenly denies its whingeing. So transparent too, as usually he tries to cover it up better.God is an Englishman wrote:Where have I whinged?Wayne Kerr wrote:Oh GIAE, is there anything that you DON'T Whinge about

Where have the Aussies whinged?
Did any Tassie players whinge?
If they bring up topic of "doctoring" - in your mind, "whinge". You bring up exact same topic - and tries to deflect with, "where have I whinged?"

All through the last ashes series we got told that the English were doctoring, every series they play away in India they claim it's doctoring.
I have no issue with this doctoring so how can I be whingeing. I am merely highlighting that every country does it.

Yet you accuse the Aussies of whingeing and then do nothing different than what they did. Can't have it both ways.
