Round 14 WPL
FFSA U14/15 Girls v Cumberland United
The young FFSA side, fresh from their interstate tournaments, return to league competition and welcome fellow strugglers Cumberland. Both teams will be hoping to add a rare scalp to their season tally. After a strong showing last year Cumberlands season has failed to build on those expectations. The FFSA squad on the other hand appear to be struggling against a slightly stronger competition this year. The early season result suggests Cumberland should take the points, but i've got the feeling we might see an upset at Angle Park. FFSA 2...Cumberland 1
West Adelaide v Fulham United
Another difficult game to predict. West Adelaide appear to hold all the cards as far as player quality, but inconsistent performances throughout the season have cost them dearly. Fulham on the other hand are the seasons biggest improvers and appear to have come together as a side as the season progresses. A strong result against Para Hills last week might suggest that West will need to call on all their stars to lift this week, if they're available. West Adelaide 1...Fulham 2
Sturt Marion v Metro United WFC
The form guide indicates that Metro will only have to turn up to claim the points, but as this scribe said a similar thing back in Round 5, perhaps anything can happen. Metro apparently barely raised a sweat in taking care of Cumberland last week, whilst it took a late winner from Sturt to snatch a draw against Uni. I'm thinking that Metro will be out to square the ledger and am predicting a Metro win. Sturt 0...Metro 3
Para Hills Knights v Adelaide University
Uni and Knights are evenly matched sides and go into this weekends game hard to separate. Uni know where the goal is thanks to the Chilean import ( training the house down at NTC and apparently ready to play the W League season for Adelaide...good work ) and with Para difficult to score against, this game is a tough one to predict. Para 1...Uni 1

Welcome back Worthless Gobemouche. Why was there a break from writing the match previews? My work frequently takes me overseas and I enjoy reading the previews when I am overseas (And when I am home!).

Lack of engagement from our fellow forumites. Seems that intelligent non controversial topics aren't as interesting as bitching about a certain coach. Sometimes i felt like i may as well have been talking to myself instead of engaging in an open forum discussion with like minded individuals. Lets give it another try and see how it goes.United We Stand wrote:Welcome back Worthless Gobemouche. Why was there a break from writing the match previews? Re: Round 14 WPL
I agree- WB it's nice to have an intelligent preview write-up. I agree with your predictions this week- several tight, unpredictable games- I think I'll go with Cumberland, Fulham (although it depends on who's on the park for both teams), metro and uni. The middle of the table is very congested- only 2 points separate third from seventh- will be an interesting finish-

I enjoy reading your write ups, but have no personal connection so can't comment.

Re: Round 14 WPL
I agree JS. The middle of the table in the Prems ( and the reserves for that matter ) is particularly tight. If the top two keep going at it blow for blow, its going to come down to the final game of the season between the two...massive opportunity for the marketing department to take full advantage and turn that game into a Grand Final like showpiece for the womans game. I along with quite a few others wouldn't mind seeing that game, but if we have other commitments ( games of our own ect ) it might only be the lucky few who get to witness it. Plenty of time FFSA to pull this together...just a thought.juniorsupporter wrote:I agree- WB it's nice to have an intelligent preview write-up. Re: Round 14 WPL
Some might say it was an upset, but congratulations to the FFSA for claiming the points against Cumberland yesterday. Sporting Pulse indicates that it might have been a close game. Long injury lists for both teams appear to have taken their toll.
A Ruth Wallace hatrick was enough to see off the improved Fulham, but it appears as if Fulham were always chasing West and couldnt quite get a result despite having the extra man advantage after the send off of Stella Bakopanos.
Metro kept the pressure up on Adelaide City with a comfortable 4-0 win over Strurt. MJ's first half brace set up a 3-0 half time lead and added to Metro's distinct goal difference advantage over City. Could that be the deciding factor ?
And finally, Para Hills who I suggested were difficult to score against let me down by conceding 6 to Adelaide Uni in a possibly one sided affair, that I didnt see coming. Rojas nets another 2 and her and MJ will battle it out for the 'Golden Boot' award at the end of the season.
Feel free fellow forumites to fill in the gaps that I may have missed as we head into the final month or so of the league.

Re: Round 14 WPL
There was no send off yesterday in the WA/Fulham game. should have been though- last defender situation. Ref chose to give a yellow. Don't know how it became a red on sports pulse. Ruth Wallace key for WA as she is very clinical in her finishing- all three goals came from her, one on one with goalie.

Not the first time ive seen or heard of West Adelaide / Olympic escape with a warning for a last defender foul stopping a goal scoring opportunity.

Re: Round 14 WPL
When questioned, ref's response was that there was no such thing as last defender, or denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. Huh?

Re: Round 14 WPL
Good thing I'm not a ref!
Did just read law 12- Under a heading "Send-off Offences":
"denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick"
I think even the WA supporters might have been thinking to themselves that they got lucky yesterday, although they might not admit it.
