Hello Forumites where have you been?

Post by SAD GAL »

After a self imposed ban....I'm back to run my eagle eye across the womens comp. So far its seems to be the status quo with rumuor and innuendo sprinkled with hear say. Seems to me the comp is stagnating (as it has for over the last 10 years). No SA girls in the womens world cup team and unlikely to be. SAD really

Why do people feel a need to advertise their absence?

To reaffirm their brilliance. It's a self esteem thing . It's like including the logos of the football teams they follow in their profile....I suppose they do so to validate their football knowledge credentials??

The Women's Forum is stagnating. No one actually talks about the football anymore. Most topics are started by people who enjoy hiding behind a computer screen and continually complain about anything and everything.

Bring back discussions about weekend games, upcoming players...you know, topics that are actually interesting...and hey, maybe throw in a positive comment or two....that would be a nice change

Well said, how about some discussions regarding the Cup games being played tonight or this weeks games. There are some good match ups in both the cup and regular season games this week.

TRuth be known I am keyboard cowboy (as most of us) however, if e didn't give a hoot we woudln't be on here. Well...I've been absent for quite a while and that's enabled me to move away from the politics and recalibrate my thoughts and opinions.

The recent WC highlighted what this game of yours has become. Australia is well and truly up there and can mix it with the best. Am I concerned that SA Football doesn't rate in the eastern states (no surprise just look at other male and female sports) and with that many of our playters don't get a look in for the national squads. The state comp whilst admirable offers little in the way of a pathway to national selection. Once its over and the camps have been held our girls head back home and await the inevitable letter saying "Thnaks....but unfortunately....". Devastating because I (and you) know that we have players who are worthy.

The local comp is where the pathway to national representation qstarts and that is why it needs to become far more stable and competitive. There is a distinct lack in connectivity between prems and the lower divisions where there are many good and equally committed players to that in prems. Equal in their passion for the game. The difference in ability is many instances is marginal. The comments of the past that the lower div teams were only for those who didn't want to train and were less committed (from my brief expereince) is incorrect and maybe 10 years out of date.

Wheretoo from here? Greater engagement at all levels of the comp because the weight of numbers rowing in the same direction with a common goal can only mean greater success for all.

That's my bit.

SA girls have gotten more of a look in lately- 10 or twelve involved in Young Matildas and mini Matildas last year, and four currently in selection pool for Young Matildas AFC Championshp campaign in August- one player, 16, had a Matildas cap earlier in the year before the WC and will, IMO, be a regular squad member sooner rather than later. Not bad I'd say.

Good to read we're getting our girls into the fore. It's the next step to the top that is the hardest part
