Womens world cup
The Matilda's are in group D with USA, Sweden and Nigeria.
What are their chances of making it through to the next round?

The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work.

Re: Womens world cup
Difficult task. Definitely the group of death.
Looking to take the points against Nigeria, sneak a win or scrape a point against Sweden and keep the USA as honest as possible.
Best case scenario : Australia progress after finishing second
Worst Case scenario : Lose all three games, early flight home and then having to endure a thread from Sportsbird about how it is all Ross Aloisi's fault

Re: Womens world cup
Even the Americans think this is the group of death and rate the Australians.

We could get thru with as little as four points.

Re: Womens world cup
If you look at the US roster, the team is very old- youngest player is 23 and there are 5 or 6 over 30, with Christine Rampone at 40 playing her 5th World Cup. One could argue that the wealth of experience will make them better, however I think that there might just be too many miles on too many legs. I think Australia has a real shot at an upset in that game....

I looked at the thread on the World Football forum, Slide Tackle- evidently the Women's World Cup doesn't qualify as World Football, only Women's Football. Typical.Slide Tackle wrote:A thread has also been created in The world football section

Re: Womens world cup
Well done to the Matildas on the first major game.
Had the Americans on the back foot in the first half and the Matildas played exceptionally good football, but unfortunately could not continue with the pressure in the second half.
Looks promising for the remainder of the cup.

Group D Results
Sweden 3 Nigeria 3
USA 3 Matildas 1
Matilda's delivered the goods in the first half. If we can play like that for 90 mins against Nigeria we can come away with the 3 points.

Silly article.
Its all about results in the World Cup
Re: Womens world cup
Great result! Aus 2 Nigeria 0.
Looked good, composed for most of the game. A bit nervy/tired in the 10 minutes to half time, while leading 1-0, but came out confident in the second half.
(Maybe it was the half time team talk by RA?)

Why don't the broadcasters put the clock and score in the corner like they do for proper tournaments?

Re: Womens world cup
Do you mean like the boofheads on radio Five AAFL & Triple M?M@rvin wrote:Also not rated by the media either.
Sexist boofheads. You would have thought they would at least ring some-one in the Matildas camp, even have a preview of the do-or-die game versus Sweden.
Plenty of Adelaide connection over there too. The 'Tiser soccer-football writer, Aloisi the Matildas Assistant Coach, the Team Manager & the Team Doctor, all from Adelaide. And Melissa Barbieri would have made for a good interview.
Or the AFL boofheads could have interviewed Samantha Kerr, sister of former West Coast Eagles player Daniel Kerr and made their beloved AFL connection that way.
I spoke to Mark Bickley yesterday Tuesday 16/6), asking that Five AAFL at least mention what time the game versus Sweden was on. He didn't even know who the Matildas were playing.
And I am disappointed at Ditts too on Triple M not mentioning this important game on his morning AFL show (aka the brekky show).
Go the Matildas!

Re: Womens world cup
'Cause it's a breakfast show meant to be bringing up ALL topical sports news, dumb-dumb Totally Unsober. Don't you get the sarcasm calling it the AFL breakfast show (aka the Triple M breakfast show)? Even their studio jester (Blakey) teases Ditts & Roo and calls it the AFL foottee, foottee & more foottee show. Are you faarking defending their sexism & ignoring our Country's Matildas in the Women's World Cup?Sotally Tober wrote:Why would you mention it on a AFL show?

Re: Womens world cup
All I am saying is an it's not really surprising an AFL show wouldn't mention something irrelevant.

You would be correct ... except that it's actually supposedly NOT an AFL show.Sotally Tober wrote:All I am saying is an it's not really surprising an AFL show wouldn't mention something irrelevant.
