Re: NAB Challenge
Bloody hell. 18 days straight. Wall-to-wall NAB Cup or 'Challenge' or whatever that bank wants to call it these days.
This should keep Five AAFL's Rowey excited and keep any other sports off the radar on it's Five AAFL ALL-Sports show.

Re: NAB Challenge
The only good thing about it is that they are full length games and with very minimal rule changes/trials. So teams can at least have a decent hit out. But Brisbane on the other hand.... :? not good preparation for their youngsters and probably equally as poor preparation for hawthornozzie owl wrote:18 NAB challenge games in 18 days...............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Re: NAB Challenge
Joke comp. AFL should just sanction 3 or 4 trial games and pit teams that only play each other once in the main season. Oh, I forgot, they might lose a few $$$.................

Re: NAB Challenge
Agree 100% but like you said, it's all about commercialism. Teams only organise one trial match now (eg port vs st kilda at alberton) whereas they should be organising a handful of practice games in the preseason. The more the better as they can give their young ones some game time and ease their senior and injured players into it. 3 games is barely enough to prepare for an entire season.Bomber wrote:Joke comp. Re: NAB Challenge
Just curious....are Port Power arrogant or chicken for naming an under strength team today?

But seriously, I am pleased to see players rested. You can only have 2 subs and the last thing anyone would want is their players getting injured/being sore come round 1. It was a rivalry game and it was full length too and it may have gotten a little heated if both teams were going at it.

Re: NAB Challenge
Good to see the young kids get a run. They all have work to do and are all promising stars of the future. They got a taste today and will no doubt work hard to get a spot on match day. Valuable experience and learning lesson today for the inexperienced kids. Can't read a whole lot into today but by not having full strength teams it does help the build up to round 2 rather than take away from it.totsreds08 wrote:MegaBonus wrote:Just curious....are Port Power arrogant or chicken for naming an under strength team today? We just wanted to see the majority of crows fans get their hopes up over defeating a very under strength power team.

Big guns to come in next week vs Essendon & St Kilda

I'm sorry do you have a point or is this just another attempt to take to thread off topic?

If it was a pre 1995 model, chances are it was a Power supporter. After that, probably a Crow.Ashes Whitewash wrote:It was a ute. Actually it was a tad convienient because I did have some rubbish I needed to dispose of.

Hence the convenience. It wasn't full but I did take the liberty to put some stuff in there.Bacon888 wrote:Should've filled up the ute.Ashes Whitewash wrote:It was a ute. Actually it was a tad convienient because I did have some rubbish I needed to dispose of.

Re: NAB Challenge
Driving to work yesterday, the Five AAFL brekky show played excerpts of Wildy and Rowe calling Sunday's trial/practice/scratch game. They sounded like demented, screeching, Camry Crow-supporting banshees.
Wonder what NAB shareholders think of their bank's execs sponsoring this cup or "challenge" or whatever it's called these days? Especially seeing the way a lot of coaches, players and supporters scornfully treat this farcical comp.

Power definitely flag faves now
Polec looked good tonight, as did Clurey. Still a lot of work to do, need to be able to close a game out when we dominate for long periods

Re: NAB Challenge
Impey will get there. Definitely not the standard of wines or wingard yet but he'll get his time. With the squad we now have, I can't see him getting heaps of games his year. Maybe some as a sub

Re: NAB Challenge
Well the best thing about this nab challenge is the fact it ends tonight. Has been a very lacklustre event by the AFL. Either re-introduce the knockout format (and eliminated teams play friendlies) or scrap it all together and just let teams organise their own matches. At least the KO format gives teams 4 games to work with. The lack on incentive to win something seemed to take away from it a bit and make it even worse. I remember the days when there were groups and group winners progressed to the semi finals

Re: NAB Challenge
They had someone from the AFL on the radio and they said they will keep "experimenting" with it. Bit ridiculous that they will experiment and possibly ruin all teams pre-seasons for the corporate dollars
