Kunt of a day for me and the news of that result just topped it off...Knew when we lost to Cougars that the Championship was gone, can't rely on results to get you one and is never as sweet as winning off your own back....Congrats to Modbury on winning the championship.. to my fellow clubmen, we couldn't have worked any harder or put in more 1%ers this season.....Promotion is good but feeling rather shit at the moment.

Good summary of the game. However, 2nd goal equaliser by Modbury, a back deflected header by a defender, may have played the forward onside ?

1st goal by Modbury, forward was behind the ball, so not offside, 2nd goal by Modbury, forward played through by Stirling, so not offside, and penalty was 100% there. Might as well have got the meat axe out. Dumb move by Stirling defender in the box when the game is in the balance and when jockeying was an option.
Modbury played the better football and saw more of it.
Excellent game to watch, both teams gave it everything. 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3.

Congratulations to modbury and well done to Stirling for going out there and showing right. Stirling gained a lot of respect today. To cougars boys we had a great season and it hurts that a bad referee decision in the last 10 seconds of the game cost us promotion. That's football I guess, sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't. Also good banter between the modbury and cougars supporters during the game and then showing respect and shaking hands after the game. Well done to all teams involved in the league this year, it was a dramatic season that came down to the last kick.

aaahahaha. this is the most biased post i have ever read on these forums. All of your opinions are so one eyed and wrong.
Credit to Stirling..great display...they wanted to win unlike other clubs that roll over and die when there is nothing on the line.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion.
I agree that the Stirling defender could have comfortably jockeyed, the ball was right out in the corner of the area and he was well positioned, but he obviously thought the ball was there to be won. The irony is that Modbury were by far the more physical side throughout the game, running through players late time and again - nods to #9 and #15 here - it's not Modbury's fault, the ref didn't put a stop to it.

I think the fair result was a draw. Stirling were on top in the first half of each half and Modbury the 2nd half of each half.
The referee won the league for Modbury, its as simple as that. The referee should have booked half of the Modbury team but he didn't because he was intimidated by the bogan fans on the side lines, and rewarding the penalty in the last kick of the game with all the other things he didn't call throughout the game was an utter disgrace. Lets not forget, Modburys second goal was flagged offside by an OFFICIAL referee and gets overalled. Something fishy goin on?

Season's done and dusted.
Best of luck to Modbury for next year (glad we don't have to play you, tough games every time).
Best of luck to Vipers for next year (without their talisman goalscorer it'll be tough).
Best of luck to Cougars for next year (as one of you said after the game, hope we both go up).

Match fixing???? :P
Congrats to Modbury, they turned up in numbers and certainly celebrated enthusiastically after their winner and at the end of the game.
(Some were gesticulating that Stirling only had two goals, while others were kindly indicating that they had won the game by one goal.)
Cougars supporters present gave them some stick from the start, especially after we went 1-0 up in the first minute or two, and seemed to take the banter in good heart.

Stirling 1-0 up quickly, good move down the wing, cross, finished nicely.
Modbury then applied the pressure for most of the half, but Stirling stood firm.
Modbury reply 1-1, was almost a carbon copy of the Stirling goal, however many of us felt the Modbury winger was offside (no flag).
Second half was even, with Stirling perhaps a little on top.
Stirling 2-1, with the keeper embarrassed as a soft, slow, angled shot from about 8m went straight to him, hit the mud a foot in front of him, didn't bounce at all, went straight along the ground, under his hands and between his legs. How we laughed!
Modbury reply 2-2, long clearance from broken play by the keeper (Modbury forward standing offside), our player tries to get his head to it but only deflects it straight to their striker, linesman puts flag up immediately for offside, striker slots ball home, ref signals goal. After Stirling protests, ref checks with linesman and overrules him (not the first or last time he'd ignore a linesman's call).
Game looked headed for a draw, Stirling getting some good chances at the other end, including a free header on the six yard box put straight in the keepers hands.
Cougars calling for the whistle, a series of Modbury free kicks, Stirling players a little slack in getting back in defensive cover, long ball over the defence, Stirling tackle in the box cleared the ball, ref points straight to the penalty spot, Modbury 3-2.
Kick off. Full time.

Good hard game. (Although I felt Modbury's physicality could have been penalised more early on, you can't just wait for the keeper to take the ball then deliberately barrel him over in mid air - no free kick, no talking to the player, nothing.)
Modbury played to their strengths and got the result they needed. Well done.

Best wishes to Modbury and Vipers in Div 1 next year.
I think we must have been at a different game

Congrats Modbury and Vipers.

A little disappointed I won't get to play either side next season, and I'll be a little lost now that I won't get to give Steve and GIAE sh-it throughout the season, but I'm sure I'll still find time for a well deserved dig here and there on the forum. :D

Modbury a good team unit, I expect them to be competitive and do well in Div.1 next season. On the other hand, I expect Vipers to struggle, and they will be my early tip for relegation. Div.1 is a fair jump up, and both teams will hope to recruit well to match it with some well drilled teams like BOSA, Sturt, St Peters and Wanderers.

Unlucky to Cougars, look forward to playing you all again next season.

Great season and well played by all in Div.2 this year.

Dry those eyes princess, as you'll live to fight another day.

And technically, you probably could have worked a little harder in those games where Matteo was out injured. Just sayin.

1%ers? What code you playing?

Just watching the UEFA Champions League Magazine on SBS - they were talking about a change to the offside law. Essentially if a forward is in an offside possition when the ball is played to him, if a defender gets a touch to it but the ball still reaches the forward, he is no longer offside.
