I don't see why not, just so long as you give them enough time to advise the referee.

Picture the situation, you are a greek side and greece are in the QF's on the Euro's on Saturday morning at 4am. You could call off your game on friday to ensure that your players can have a good night and not be affected the next day.

This situation could be made worse if someone went to their ground and found nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Fair point. Although Swannsong's Rejects comment was referring to switching to the away team's ground, not calling off the game.

I was more talking about the non referees calling off the game.

Titans pitch was pretty bad today. A massive mud patch covered the circle and a few metres around the circle too. It was made even worse by the rain making the mud wet.

Who said I was talking about any specific club?

However, you jumped on it pretty quickly.

For once I agree with the cabbie, games get called off to easily over here. It's not the champions league so you put up with a pitch that isn't completely perfect.

You weren't even there.

The cricket area had been cut up so it was a bit muddy. There were two puddles which had dried up by the seniors game. By no means was the ground unplayable.

Anyone stopped to think that clubs were thinking about the long term effect of playing on the pitches after so much rain. Everyone has either seen or heard about what happens to Stirling's, Adel Uni, Sturt and Bosa's pitches.

One of the most memorable games I remember Southern Knights V Raptors last game of the season water logged pitch, pissing down game was played and in great spirits, The ref loved it too!

Games should only be called off if the ref believes that the pitch is unsafe to play on. Standing water, or so much mud that players can't keep their feet. If it's safe, games should really be played.

I understand the ruining-the-ground comments, but that's almost certainly down to the wrong type of grass (which community ovals often suffer from) ... But you still end up with a cow-field for a pitch, for the rest of the season ... So I can appreciate why some clubs want games called off, even if the pitch is technically safe.

We're really lucky, our oval drains like you wouldn't believe. So I wasn't worried that we'd get games on this weekend ... But I would (almost) never call them off before hand, myself, anyway. I did an inspection at our place at 9:30am on the Saturday morning, and having dribbled a ball around for a bit, left it to the ref to make the final call. Even if that would of meant a wasted journey for the players (it didn't, we had 4 games on two pitches with no issues at all) it's still better coming from an official-ref, I think.

Up in the Hills all Kiddie-Football (and all FFSA football, I think?) was postponed on the Friday afternoon (by the League) ... Our kids play at a different venue than the seniors, and that place drains no where near as well as the Seniors' pitches ... but you probably could have played games on it from the brief glimpse I had on the Saturday morning.

I think the toughen-the-FK-up comment, should be aimed more at the need-not-to-waste-a-journey crowd, than those who don't want to play on a lake.

HQ ground for Pontians v Fulham was fine - 3 games played no worries.

Fulhams ground was in good nick too if we had of played there..trained Fri nite and u wouldn't have thought there had been 50mm of rain and all of the junior matches at Fulham went ahead today.

Should have tried that last week. I'm guessing your players are back from injury this week.

Azzuri I would have to agree with you. Last week I thought you were been a bit cheeky to suggest some kind of under hand tactics by sturt. But anyone who's pitch was unplayable last week must surely be in doubt this weekend. And the league should be playing catch up games straight away at HQ. It is unfair on the teams who's pitches are fine to play. If it gets to a situation that the games that have to be played are left to the end of season it is not good for the leagues credability. All the last games should be played at the same time.

Hey smart A**SE we may have to move to a local high school that wasnt available last week. no one has trained on pitch all week and there hasnt been quit as much rain, pitches were flooded this morning and games are still dodgy, so unless you have made the effort to come and check them out and seen how much volunteer work has gone on to try and make it a chance for a game, keep you cabernet opinion to your self.
You are probably one of those people that winge the most and do sod all work for your club

Can't agree with that, the weather has been friendlier this week, we had 2 and a half days of sunshine, we had what, 10mm yesterday? Compare that to 50mm last week. Many pitches will be in better condition this week, particularly those which had no games all together last week.

We've been hit with three home games in a row, have one more next week, but the pitch seems to be holding up, bit chewed up after today though
